This book was released on 1977 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The families, genera, and species of all larval fishes are tabulated and the abundance, length frequencies, and distribution of 12 species and 2 families are summarized utilizing data collected on 8 ichthyoplankton surveys of the Gulf of Maine-Georges Bank area. The segregation of coastal and oceanic species north and south of the coastal/slope water boundary during December is evidence in a comparison of the distribution of upper 100-m integrated temperature and Atlantic herring. Myctophidae, and Paralepididae larvae. All larval barracudinas and laternfishes occurred in areas where the integrated temperature was above 11° and 13°C, respectively. Ninety-one percent of positive larval herring tows were in areas where the integrated temperature was below 13°C.

Download or read book The Macrofauna of the Surf Zone Off Folly Beach South Carolina written by William Dewey Anderson (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A seining survey of the macrofauna of the surf zone at Folly Beach, Charleston County, S.C., was conducted from October 1969 to October 1971. Eighty-seven collections were made in the surf and associated tidal pool resulting in the capture of 512 specimens of swimming invertebrates representing at least 17 species and 5,095 specimens of bony fishes representing 41 species. The data obtained are analyzed on seasonal and yearly bases for total weights and numbers of species and specimens. Species are ranked as to importance; and prediction equations for monthly average number of specimens per collection in the surf, based on environmental variables, are developed. Length-frequency data and other aspects of the biology of selected species are presented. Length-length and length-weight relationships are given for certain species. Recommendations for the improvement of the methodology for similar surveys are made.
