Book Trust Based QOS aware Packet Forwarding Model for Ad Hoc Network Independent of Routing Protocol

Download or read book Trust Based QOS aware Packet Forwarding Model for Ad Hoc Network Independent of Routing Protocol written by Vijaya Laxmi and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for users to be able to setup wireless networks as, and when they require, has led to a boom in MANET. The constantly changing status of wireless links, mobility and resource scarcity, pose serious problems when a node in an ad hoc network is required to not only be able to communicate with other neighbors (multiple hops away), but also have demand QOS of intermediate nodes to its delay sensitive packets. As this technology has matured, resource starving of best effort traffic in the presence of priority traffic is not acceptable. Moreover, a true seamless, wireless network would be one in which intermediate nodes do not always need to support the same type of routing protocol in their TCP/IP stack to allow communication between the source and destination node. This research proposes to solve the QOS issues in a wireless ad hoc network by enriching the nodes in a network with trust databases, and a pool table to keep records of its previous interactions with all malicious and trustworthy nodes. A node can assign trust points to well behaving nodes and deduct points away from the database for a bad node. Thus, a node can always have a look at an intermediate node's trust points and its previous performance to decide if this node can be trusted to properly forward its multimedia traffic by satisfying the QOS request. Also, QOS favors are returned promptly to provide incentives for nodes to become trustworthy. This author has proposed to solve the QOS issues in a MANET in a unique way, and has also tried to capture the dynamism of wireless channels by using a Best Effort (BE) timer to gain the best utilization of a costly channel and to provide fairness. A Universal Packet Format is used in this research to ensure communication between two nodes which may be separated by nodes that do not support the same routing protocol in their TCP/IP stack. Hence, an attempt toward a comprehensive solution for achieving the goals of a seamless QOS aware ad hoc network is made in this research work.

Book Multiple Access Protocols

Download or read book Multiple Access Protocols written by Raphael Rom and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer communication networks have come of age. Today, there is hardly any professional, particularly in engineering, that has not been the user of such a network. This proliferation requires the thorough understanding of the behavior of networks by those who are responsible for their operation as well as by those whose task it is to design such networks. This is probably the reason for the large number of books, monographs, and articles treating relevant issues, problems, and solutions in this field. Among all computer network architectures, those based on broadcast mul tiple access channels stand out in their uniqueness. These networks appear naturally in environments requiring user mobility where the use of any fixed wiring is impossible and a wireless channel is the only available option. Because of their desirable characteristics multiple access networks are now used even in environments where a wired point-to-point network could have been installed. The understanding of the operation of multiple access network through their performance analysis is the focus of this book.

Book Flow Aware Admission Control Protocol for QoS Provisioning in MANETs

Download or read book Flow Aware Admission Control Protocol for QoS Provisioning in MANETs written by Muhammad Asif and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), mobile nodes communicate over an error prone wireless channel without any centralized control. MANETs have n9 fixed topology because mobile nodes can freely join or leave the network at any time. As a consequence, it is difficult to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) in these networks. The current routing , protocols provide only best effort services to the applications. Multimedia communications become very popular and require various types of QoS guarantee from the network such as guranteed throughput, bounded end-to-end delay. The QoS-aware routing (QA) and Admission Control (AC) protocols try to address the issue of QoS to some extent. In this work, a novel Flow Aware Admission Control (FAAC) protocol is designed to assure the guaranteed throughput to data sessions. It utilizes the route cache of routing protocol and devises a new admission technique to accept or reject data session to the network. It is partially coupled with the Oynamic Source Routing (OSR) protocol as it has used the basic functionality of route search of the OSR protocol. The protocol has two phases: (i) route discovery and (ii) test the route nodes resources for a data session entry. The performance evaluations show that the protocol outperforms the existing best effort routing and QAR and AC protocols such as OSR and Contention Aware Admission Control (CACP) protocols in providing QoS in MANETs. Mobility is a big challenge to assure guaranteed throughput to data sessions. To address this issue, we have designed F AAC-Multipath protocol that uses multiple routes for data transmission. The protocol maintains two tested routes for each data session and devises new fast switching mechanisms that switch the data flow from one route to another to guarantee the throughput. Multimedia applications require guaranteed throughput as well as bounded end-to-end delay. To address this issue we.have designed Flow Aware Admission Control-Multipath with Multiple constraints (F AAC-MM). This protocol assures the application with guaranteed throughput as well as bounded end-to-end delay. FAAC-MM switches the data flow from primary to secondary route on the basis of achieved throughput and end-to-end delay. We have also analyzed and compared the proposed protocols with the state of the art protocols such as CACP and Multi-path for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. The simulation results show that our protocol outperforms the above mentioned protocols.

Book Distributed Medium Access Control for QoS Support in Wireless Networks

Download or read book Distributed Medium Access Control for QoS Support in Wireless Networks written by Ping Wang and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapid growth of multimedia applications and the advances of wireless communication technologies, quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning for multimedia services in heterogeneous wireless networks has been an important issue and drawn much attention from both academia and industry. Due to the hostile transmission environment and limited radio resources, QoS provisioning in wireless networks is much more complex and difficult than in its wired counterpart. Moreover, due to the lack of central controller in the networks, distributed network control is required, adding complexity to QoS provisioning. In this thesis, medium access control (MAC) with QoS provisioning is investigated for both single- and multi-hop wireless networks including wireless local area networks (WLANs), wireless ad hoc networks, and wireless mesh networks. Originally designed for high-rate data traffic, a WLAN has limited capability to support delay-sensitive voice traffic, and the service for voice traffic may be impacted by data traffic load, resulting in delay violation or large delay variance. Aiming at addressing these limitations, we propose an efficient MAC scheme and a call admission control algorithm to provide guaranteed QoS for voice traffic and, at the same time, increase the voice capacity significantly compared with the current WLAN standard. In addition to supporting voice traffic, providing better services for data traffic in WLANs is another focus of our research.

Book Cross Layer Design for QoS Routing in Multi Hop Wireless Networks

Download or read book Cross Layer Design for QoS Routing in Multi Hop Wireless Networks written by Ahed Alshanyour and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are gaining increasing popularity in recent years because of their ease of deployment. They are distributed, dynamic, and self-configurable without infrastructure support. Routing in ad hoc networks is a challenging task because of the MANET dynamic nature. Hence, researchers were focused in designing best-effort distributed and dynamic routing protocols to ensure optimum network operations in an unpredictable wireless environment. Nowadays, there is an increased demand on multimedia applications (stringent delay and reliability requirements), which makes a shift from best-effort services to Quality of Services. Actually, the challenge in wireless ad hoc networks is that neighbor nodes share the same channel and they take part in forwarding packets. Therefore, the total effective channel capacity is not only limited by the raw channel capacity but is also limited by the interactions and interferences among neighboring nodes. Thus, such factors should be taken in consideration in order to offer QoS routing. While, some of the distributed QoS route selection algorithms assume the availability of such information, others propose mechanisms to estimate them. The goals of this thesis are: (i) to analyze the performance of IEEE 802.11 MAC mechanism in non-saturation conditions, (ii) to use the analysis in the context of multi-hop ad hoc networks, (iii) to derive theoretical limits for nodes performance in multi-hop ad hoc networks, (iv) to use the multi-hop analysis in QoS route selection. We start the thesis by proposing a discrete-time 3D Markov chain model to analyze the saturation performance of the RTS/CTS access mode. This model integrates the backoff countdown process, retransmission retry limits, and transmission errors into one model. The impact of system parameters (e.g., number of nodes, packet size, retry limits, and BERs) are analyzed. Next, we extend the 3D model to analyze the performance under non-saturation conditions and finite buffer capacity using two different approaches. First, we extend the 3D model into a 4D model to integrate the transmission buffer behavior. Second, we replace the 4D model by an M/G/1/K queueing system model with independent samples from the saturation analysis. The latter model gives similar results as the former but with a reduction in the analysis complexity. Next and by means of the non-saturation analysis, we proposed an approximate mathematical model for multi-hop ad hoc networks. Furthermore, we proposed an iterative mechanism to estimate the throughput in the presence of multiple flows. Finally, we used the multi-hop analysis to propose a QoS route selection algorithm. In this algorithm, we concentrate on the throughput as a QoS parameter. However, the proposed algorithm is valid to be used with other QoS parameters, such as packet delay, packet loss probability, and fairness. Analytical and simulation results show the deficiency of the current route selection algorithm in AODV and at the same time verifies the need for QoS route selection algorithms.

Book Cross layered qos framework for next generation wireless networks

Download or read book Cross layered qos framework for next generation wireless networks written by Collectif and published by Omn.Univ.Europ.. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the under-utilization problem of medium access control in wireless collision channels and other closely related problems known in wireless networks. In particular, it deals with the design of random access protocols for wireless systems and provides a mathematical framework for performance evaluation of multihop- based heterogeneous wireless networks. A new modeling framework is also introduced for the analytical study of MAC protocols operating in multihop wireless ad hoc networks, i.e., wireless networks characterized by the lack of any pre- existent infrastructure and where participating devices must cooperatively provide the basic functionalities that are common to any computer network. To show the applicability of our modeling framework, we model wireless ad hoc networks that operate according to the IEEE 802.11 standard. To accomplish this, we present a comprehensive analytical modeling of the IEEE 802.11 and the derivation of many performance metrics of interest, such as delay, throughput, and energy consumption.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We based TARP on the basic idea of neighborhood trust where the trust-level of a node is based on its reputation among its neighbors. FL has been perceived to be an excellent choice for many trust control system applications since it mimics human control logic. Tuning the system can be done by changing the rule antecedents or conclusions, changing the centers of the input and/or output membership functions.
