Book Portrait of a Woman and Jesus

Download or read book Portrait of a Woman and Jesus written by Barbara Quillen Egbert and published by . This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would it be like to meet Jesus face to face? Stories of encounters between Jesus and various women have been handed down through the centuries and give us a glimpse of how He responded to women with needs and desires similar to ours. Because Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can be confident He treats women today like He did when He walked the earth. We, too, can trust that He is powerful, good, and kind. The purpose of this book is to encourage the reader by showing that Jesus understands her needs and desires and continues to unconditionally love, value, forgive, rescue, heal, comfort, provide for, restore, satisfy and give life-now and eternally. Portrait of a Woman and Jesus captures a verbal and visual snapshot of thirteen face-to-face encounters of a woman and Jesus. Each portrait by artist Wilson Ong reflects how the scene may have unfolded as a woman interacted with Jesus.

Book The Crucifixion of the Warrior God

Download or read book The Crucifixion of the Warrior God written by Gregory A. Boyd and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2017-04-17 with total page 1487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dramatic tension confronts every Christian believer and interpreter of Scripture: on the one hand, we encounter images of God commanding and engaging in horrendous violence: one the other hand, we encounter the non-violent teachings and example of Jesus, whose loving, self-sacrificial death and resurrection is held up as the supreme revelation of God’s character in the New Testament. How do we reconcile the tension between these seemingly disparate depictions? Are they even capable of reconciliation? Throughout Christian history, many different answers have been proposed, ranging from the long-rejected explanation that these contrasting depictions are of two entirely different ‘gods’ to recent social and cultural theories of metaphor and narrative representation. The Crucifixion of the Warrior God takes up this dramatic tension and the range of proposed answers in an epic constructive investigation. Over two volumes, renowned theologian and biblical scholar Gregory A. Boyd argues that we must take seriously the full range of Scripture as inspired, including its violent depictions of God. At the same time, we must take just as seriously the absolute centrality of the crucified and risen Christ as the supreme revelation of God. Developing a theological interpretation of Scripture that he labels a “cruciform hermeneutic,” Boyd demonstrates how Scripture’s violent images of God are completely reframed and their violence subverted when they are interpreted through the lens of the cross and resurrection. Indeed, when read through this lens, Boyd argues that these violent depictions can be shown to bear witness to the same self-sacrificial character of God that was supremely revealed on the cross.

Book excerpt: Jerusalem without God leads the reader through the streets, malls, suburbs, traffic jams, and squares of Jerusalem's present moment, into the daily lives of the men and women who inhabit it. Caridi brings contemporary Jerusalem alive by describing it as a place of sights and senses, sounds and smells, but she also shows us a city riven by the harsh asymmetry of power and control embodied in its lines, limits, walls, and borders. She explores a cruel city, where Israeli and Palestinian civilians sometimes spend hours in the same supermarkets, only to return to the confines of their respective districts, invisible to each other.

Book The Portrait of a Christian

Download or read book The Portrait of a Christian written by Raymond D. Sopp and published by . This book was released on 2004-02-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My heart sank within me. Something was VERY wrong! My heart profoundly sank into my innermost being. It was then I knew in my heart of hearts that this insight was NOT given to me to judge anyone, but to HELP every called-out-one safely into the Kingdom of God. I wanted to somehow spiritually paint the portrait of a Christian in order that all who professed to be Christians would then be able to examine themselves to see if they could recognize the Spirit of Jesus Christ within themselves. And, God forbid, if they failed the test, just maybe, if they had ears to hear, they could then turn their mere Christian profession into a truly born-again experience. With this in mind, the title I have given to this book is: "The Portrait of a Christian." The title comes from the knowledge that the best way to warn (admonish) of a fault is to expose the genuine-to expose the Spirit behind the Holy Scriptures so you can examine yourself to see if you recognize the Spirit of Jesus Christ (The Word) in you. This is one examination that ALL professing Christians must pass; to fail this examination has eternal infernal consequences. Raymond D. Sopp Int'l Ministries P.O.
