Book An Analysis of Non Constant Area Heat Addition Due to Combustion in a Supersonic Air Stream

Download or read book An Analysis of Non Constant Area Heat Addition Due to Combustion in a Supersonic Air Stream written by Roy A. Cookson and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A condition critical to the occurrence of ignition in a ducted supersonic stream has been proposed. By utilizing this concept as a further boundary condition, a new approach to the solution of the gas dynamic equations relevant to combustion in a ducted supersonic stream has been made. This approach involves the duct characteristic with which to describe the combustion process. For engineering, a duct law has been found to satisfy the system of equations; it can be considered to be the additional equation required to close the problem. The above temperature-area relationship, which established the critical Mach number at which thermal choking occurs as unity, can be used as an alternative to the Crocco pressure-area relationship which predicts a non-unity critical Mach number.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, SIld disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna and broader dissemination. tional publishing house to assure improved service Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 30 (thesis year 1985) a total of 12,400 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 186 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.

Book Numerical Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow

Download or read book Numerical Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow written by Suhas Patankar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on heat and mass transfer, fluid flow, chemical reaction, and other related processes that occur in engineering equipment, the natural environment, and living organisms. Using simple algebra and elementary calculus, the author develops numerical methods for predicting these processes mainly based on physical considerations. Through this approach, readers will develop a deeper understanding of the underlying physical aspects of heat transfer and fluid flow as well as improve their ability to analyze and interpret computed results.

Book Heat Addition to a One dimensional Supersonic Flow Including Real Gas Effects

Download or read book Heat Addition to a One dimensional Supersonic Flow Including Real Gas Effects written by Serge Albert Waiter and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thermodynamic study of heat addition process in a supersonic flow is presented, taking account of the effects of dissociation and ionization; the only hypothesis proposed is that the flow is in thermodynamic equilibrium at each point. The specific mechanism of the heat source is not given in detail in this paper, but, it will be supposed that the heat added to the system is steady and constant per unit distance along the nozzle axis. With these assumptions, this problem can be solved in all the simple cases previously treated; for instance: (a) Constant Mach number heating process (accelerating flow), (b) Constant pressure heating process (constant speed flow), (c) Constant area heating process (decelerating flow). In each of these cases, the solution will be obtained by the use of a Mollier diagram (Enthalpy versus Entropy), pointing out all the thermodynamic characteristics of the mixture during heating. Whereas in the case of perfect gases, heating at constant Mach number seems to be quite satisfactory, the results obtained for real gases show some superiority for the heating at constant pressure. The heating at constant area is to be rejected because of the Mach numbers obtained at the end of heating which are, in all cases, low subsonic. The use of the Mollier diagram points out an important parameter, the final static temperature of the test section.
