This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Journey to the Earth's Interior, or Have the Poles Really Been Discovered The Copernican system of astronomy was a step in advance of the Ptolemaic system just be cause it enabled scientists to discover many new facts about the solar system which the error of the old view had hidden from their gaze. My own theory adds to the valuable results gained by the Copernican System, not by subverting it - for I imagine that no sane person would now try to do that - but by accepting it fully, and adding to it a different theory of the evolution of the several planets from their nebulae, and from this new theory of evolution deducing cer tain presumptions about the interior of the earth. These presumptions I have supported by a wealth of facts discovered by the telescopic observations of astronomers of nebulae and one of our sister planets, Mars, and made by ex plorers of the most fascinating parts of our own planet - the polar regions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Questions about the origin and nature of Earth and the life on it have long preoccupied human thought and the scientific endeavor. Deciphering the planet's history and processes could improve the ability to predict catastrophes like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, to manage Earth's resources, and to anticipate changes in climate and geologic processes. At the request of the U.S. Department of Energy, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Science Foundation, and U.S. Geological Survey, the National Research Council assembled a committee to propose and explore grand questions in geological and planetary science. This book captures, in a series of questions, the essential scientific challenges that constitute the frontier of Earth science at the start of the 21st century.

Book A Trip to the Center of the Earth

Download or read book A Trip to the Center of the Earth written by Janey Levy and published by Gareth Stevens Publishing LLLP. This book was released on 2014-12-15 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If we could take a trip to the center of the Earth, what would we find? In this amazing book readers can do just that with the help of a special ship that can handle the extreme heat and pressure deep beneath Earth’s crust. Digging through a few miles of the crust is just the start of the nearly 4,000-mile journey to Earth’s core. Readers might be surprised to find that not all of the trip is through solid rock, as the intense heat does strange and amazing things to the material that makes up our planet.
