Book EMI Share Options The Complete Guide

Download or read book EMI Share Options The Complete Guide written by David Cohen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the UK, the Enterprise Management Incentive (EMI) Scheme is a highly flexible and tax efficient scheme designed specifically for smaller companies. No tax or NICs are due on the grant or exercise of a qualifying option under the EMI as long as the exercise price is not less than fair market value at the date of grant. On sale of the shares acquired through an EMI share option scheme, gains will be taxed as capital gains. At the end of 2012, the UK government indicated it would extend capital gains tax entrepreneurs' relief to shares acquired through the exercise of EMI share options. Legislation would extend the relief to EMI shares by removing the 5% minimum shareholding requirement and allowing the 12 month minimum holding requirement to commence on the date the option is granted. This measure applies to shares acquired on or after April 6, 2012 that are disposed of on or after April 6, 2013. These measures are guaranteed to make EMI schemes more popular and will increase work in this area for practitioners. EMI Share Options: The Complete Guide is a highly practical book with an extensive use of questions and answers, examples, flowcharts, and tables to illustrate the key concepts. Contents: introduction - explaining the background to EMI and putting in the context of UK employee share schemes generally * statutory requirements - how a company qualifies for EMI * statutory requirements - how an individual qualifies for EMI * statutory requirements - how an option qualifies as an EMI option * tax reliefs for EMI options - income tax and NICs dues on unapproved options, EMI reliefs, comparison with other improved schemes * disqualifying events - what events and what are the tax consequences * CGT treatment of EMI options - a short history * the current advantage EMI holders have over other employee shareholders * corporation tax - the relief for grantor or employer * corporate transactions - impact on EMI options of a takeover of IPO * share valuation - when will it be needed for EMI options and what special factors may be relevant * conclusion - impact of recent developments - predicting the future of EMI.

Book Words A User s Guide

Book excerpt: Words: A User's Guide is an accessible and invaluable reference that is ideal for students, business people and advanced learners of English. The book is structured in groups of words that may be confused because they sound alike, look alike or seem to have similar meanings, and this approach makes it much more intuitive and easy to use than a dictionary. Contrasting over 5000 words (such as habitable and inhabitable, precipitation and rainfall, reigns and reins), Words: a User’s Guide provides examples of usage adapted from large national databases of contemporary English, and illustrates each headword in typical contexts and phrases. This book gives you straightforward answers, and helps with pronunciation, spelling, style and levels of formality. For those working internationally it presents international standards and compares usage in Britain and the USA. Words: A User’s Guide is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to communicate well in written and spoken English. "At last! A book about the use of words that clarifies and de-mystifies in an eminently usable way. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to write well. It is a book to keep." Sandy Gilkes, Head of the Centre for Academic Practice, University of Northampton "Rigorous, fresh, intriguing and downright useful, it deserves a place on every properly stocked reference shelf." Book Investing in Corporate Social Responsibility

Download or read book Investing in Corporate Social Responsibility written by John Hancock and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of ethical investment funds reflects a growing desire for investors to back socially responsible companies. And there are other sound reasons why companies that are seen to be ethical, environmentally friendly, good employers etc, can see real benefits to their bottom line. Recent revisions to stock market rules have made ethical funds available to a much wider group of advisors and investors. This important book explains the issues and the benefits of corporate social responsibility in the context of an analysis of the 300 quoted UK companies currently listed on the prestigious FTSE4Good index. Part One covers recent corporate ethics issues and the damage that revelations of dishonesty and unethical practice can do to stock markets. It explains how businesses can avoid these problems and why it is good to do so. The criteria whereby companies are seen to be 'socially responsible' and the growing importance of SR to investors and other stakeholders are addressed. The performance of the FTSE4Good index is studied, and there is analysis of how the sector compares to the general market. Part Two contains a full directory of the 300 companies listed on the FTSE4Good index, and tables showing how companies fit the criteria. This is followed by individual company profiles and company case studies including: Centrica, EMI, Friends Provident, Whitbread, National Express and National Grid.

Book The Investor s Guide to Understanding Accounts

Download or read book The Investor s Guide to Understanding Accounts written by Robert Leach and published by Harriman House Limited. This book was released on 2004 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many investors ignore company accounts because they think they are too difficult. But, as the great investor Peter Lynch said "Investing without looking at the numbers is like playing bridge without looking at the cards." The mission of this book is to explain to ordinary investors, with no accounting knowledge, what to look for in a set of accounts and how to interpret what you find - so that you have an accurate 'health check' on a company in ten simple steps. Robert Leach considers the entire subject from an investor's point of view, by asking - and then answering - the questions which matter most. He also looks at the techniques which companies sometimes use to flatter their accounts, and shows how accounts for companies in different sectors have to be looked at differently. The 10 Crunch questions: 1. Is the company growing? 2. Are costs under control? 3. Does it make a profit? 4. How much cash does it have? 5. Is its market value supported by assets? 6. Is it using debt wisely? 7. Are there any hidden nasties? 8. Is management good enough? 9. Can I expect a reliable income? 10. Are there any threats to my interests?
