Book A Guide to Efficient Energy Management in the Tourism Sector

Download or read book A Guide to Efficient Energy Management in the Tourism Sector written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this guide is to help public and private sector planners and developers, as well as management and operating staff in the tourism sector in ESCWA countries. The intent of this guide is not to steer the developer to a specific design or to technology options, but rather to provide an understanding of the overall significance of the planning, design and management decisions that can be made. The study comprises five chapters. Chapter one provides background information on the rationale for promoting Sustainable Tourism Development (STD), an overview of the STD concepts, goals, priorities and measures that have been adopted by global conferences and the international organizations concerned. Chapter two presents a brief description and analyses of the different energy supply options for tourist facilities, indicating their suitability for different energy usage in the sector. Chapter three conceptualizes and recommends options for energy systems, design and management that minimizes the consumption of scarce energy resources and reduce the environmental impact of energy systems. Chapter four reflects on the nature of tourism development in the region and efforts aimed at improving energy management. Chapter five outlines a conclusion of the outcome of the previous chapters of this guide.--Publisher's description.

Book Energy Management in Business

Download or read book Energy Management in Business written by Kit Oung and published by Gower Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The business benefits of lower energy consumption are clear: lower energy costs, energy tax avoidance, selling excess CO2 credits, immediately adding savings to the bottom line and improved competitiveness. However, with a need to focus on day to day business management activities, implementing energy reduction programmes stretches the capabilities and know-how of responsible managers. Kit Oung’s Energy Management in Business is an expert's guide to energy reduction. It covers four important aspects of managing energy: strategy for successful implementation, available tools and techniques, generating sustainable quick wins and active management involvement. This book offers distilled practical concepts with real life case studies chosen to build insight, and illustrate how managers and engineers can relate to a broad range of energy reduction opportunities. We take energy for granted, like the air we breathe. We need to engage employees with energy management in two ways. In a more general sense, for those using energy for normal working practices, awareness and behaviour change are key. For those with more direct influence over energy using systems, engagement is also fundamental. Energy Management in Business places the process firmly in the context of commercial and industrial business practice. The book is an excellent companion for any organisation seeking ISO 50001 certification and a reduced energy consumption, as well as those that simply wish to better understand the options, strategies and risks that every business now faces.

Book Energy Conservation Guidebook

Download or read book Energy Conservation Guidebook written by Dale R. Patrick and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficient energy management and effective conservation procedures have been very important considerations for our society for many years. An oil embargo in the 1970s and early 1980s brought about a new awareness of energy conservation. Because of various factors like loss of tax credits and efficiency standards imposed by the government, public interest dropped considerably in regard to energy conservation. A revival in energy conservation among the general public occurred following the Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s. What does the 21st century hold? Conflicts in the Middle East, high prices for petroleum, and increasing population worldwide will all be significant influences on energy and its conservation. Considerable discussion of climate change, global warming, and increased concerns in regard to our electricity supply have provided motivation for building energy demand to be more flexible. Energy Management and Conservation, Fourth Edition, provides a very practical discussion of how energy can be managed and saved in most types of buildings. This edition not only updates the previous edition but adds updated content concerning energy cost reduction/going green to improve the environment. The authors of this book have written several books that use the systems approach. Through the use of the systems approach, the reader will be able to grasp how different parts of a building fit together to form a unit that uses energy efficiently. This text provides a thorough and practical discussion of the operation of systems that are found in most types of buildings. Each system is discussed with energy management and conservation in mind/going green to save money and improve the environment. There are many ways to manage a building to accomplish efficient energy conservation. Several of the chapters have checklists at the end to summarize ways of conserving energy that relate to the chapter. Important changes in this edition include coverage of governmental requirements from agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), United States Department of Energy (USDOE), and American Society of Refrigerating, Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE), updated as of 2022 standards. Instrumentation updates include types of sensors and the concept of 0́−smart0́+ devices such as meters. Addition of computer building maintenance management systems and new updates for renewable energy resources are included. Enhancements to existing systems content (such as variable frequency drives for pumps) have been carefully added.

Book A Light Guide to Energy Savings in Transport

Download or read book A Light Guide to Energy Savings in Transport written by Conor Molloy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide to finding and delivering energy savings opportunities in transport operations for professional energy managers and energy auditors. Globally, transport is one of the fastest growing energy consumers and emitters of greenhouse gases, predominantly CO2. The transport sector is also changing quickly ("more change in the last 5 years than in the last 50" – Mary Barra, CEO General Motors). After distance, unladen vehicle weight is the biggest driver of energy consumption in transport, hence this book is called the ‘light’ guide – tongue in cheek. Be warned transport is a huge and complex topic. This practical guide from the convener of EN16247-4:2014, the first European energy audit standard for transport, takes a pragmatic approach to delivering measurable energy and emissions reductions in transport operations. Lessons learnt from the author’s 17 years of experience in persuading operators to deliver measured energy savings in transport are interwoven with tools, tips and shortcuts. These will help energy managers and auditors deliver effective transport energy audits that identify opportunities, prompting action, measured savings and, most importantly, being invited back!
