Book A History of the Stanwood Family in America Classic Reprint

Download or read book A History of the Stanwood Family in America Classic Reprint written by Ethel Stanwood Bolton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Stanwood Family in America N writing the history of the stanwood family the original records of the towns and churches, and the wills and deeds at the county seats, have been followed in every case where it was possible, rather than books or hearsay evidence; and the graveyards have not been neglected. Tradition has been taken only where there were no records, and in every case of this kind I have endeavored to show whether or not confidence can be placed in the information. The work of arranging and indexing court, military, and town records has been carried on so rapidly of late that it has been possible to find material relating to the earlier generations of the family which a few years ago would have been inaccessible. I have no doubt that the work which is now being done at the State House, the court houses, and in many of the towns will soon make it possible to add much more which will be of equal interest. Book A Genealogy of Runnels and Reynolds Families in America

This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Genealogy of Runnels and Reynolds Families in America: With Records and Brief Memorials of the Earliest Ancestors, So Far as Known and of Many of Their Descendants, Bearing the Same and Other Names; In Three Parts A few epitaphs, anecdotes, and scraps of poetry are introduced, not as a matter of literary pretension, but for variety's sake, and to gratify, in some cases, the desires of those whose buried treas ures may thus more vividly be kept in memory. In accordance with the wise saying ascribed to John Quincy Adams, that Posterity delights in details, more full and minute citations from old registries of deeds, probate records, and other public documents, are here given, than are customary in most sim ilar works, for the reason that the proof of many genealogical points, established, is thus presented; while all the information which can be gathered respecting one's earlier ancestors is naturally gratifying, and barren facts or dates thus grouped together, though of no general interest except to immediate descendants, frequently suggest far more than can be expressed in words. Download or read book A Social History of the American Family Vol 2 written by Arthur W. Calhoun and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Social History of the American Family, Vol. 2: From Colonial Times to the Present; From Independence Through the Civil War Benjamin Franklin before the Revolution drew an impressive contrast between the old settled countries where all berths were full and the new world where the abundance and cheapness of land and the relative ease of subsistence banished forebodings and led to readi ness for early marriage; so that marriages in America are more general, and more generally early than in Europe. And if it is reckoned there, that there is but one marriage per annum among one hundred persons, perhaps we may here reckon two. At the time Of In dependence marriage was the regular thing; sports and recreations turned largely on the mimic choice Of a partner; the unmated player was the butt Of ridicule. Thus did merrymaking reflect the status of the min cing spinster or the crusty old bachelor. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book History of the Shine Family in Europe and America Classic Reprint

Download or read book History of the Shine Family in Europe and America Classic Reprint written by John W. Shine and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Shine Family in Europe and America In attempting to write the history of a family one meets with many difficulties. The most reliable information to be obtained for a work of this kind is, of course, the records. But it is an endless undertaking to search for records, hidden by years of time, and scattered far and wide. And as such a history begins at a time when few records were kept, and but few of them preserved, the difficulty in procuring satis factory data is quite apparent. After tracing back only a few generations it becomes very uncertain, and unsatisfactory. In obtaining data from those who know, or should know, something of their immediate family history, you are also met with difficulties. Very few take interest enough in their family history to take the time to furnish information to make a satisfactory and complete history of the family. At first my object was simply to track back my own imme diate family to its origin, but in doing so I gathered much information of other families of the name, and concluded to put it all in book form, that it may aid others in writing a more accurate and complete history of the family Shine, or in locating relatives. Download or read book The Story of an American Family Classic Reprint written by Lucile Driftmier Verness and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-13 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of an American Family In stormy or cold weather these weary travelers asked to come into the house to sleep, and they were never refused. Many times there were so many beds made up on the kitchen floor that Grandfather Field couldn't get to the stove to build a fire! And when there was a tired mother with a little baby Grandmother Field always insisted on giving them a good hot breakfast before they started out on the next lap of their journey. Mother has told us that she remembers one wagon that had painted on the cover in large letters: TO kansas OR bust; and two years later the same wagon came back, but this time it read: busted, BY thunder. The sorry times in other sections of the country were very real to the Field children for with their own eyes they saw the defeated homesteaders who had gone by earlier so confident. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Shepardson Family: A Record of the Early Generations in America An abstract of the will and the inventory of the estate of this pioneer Shepardson have been printed as well as certain. Orders of the General Court about his property. [in N. E. Gen. Hist. Soc. Reg] The second Daniel followed the trade of his father, making his home at Malden, Mass., for some years. His name appears as one of a number who signed a petition to Sir William Phipps, I 7 October, 1694, praying to be permitted to establish a settlement in Attleboro, Mass. He seems to have owned land there as early as 1660. He took a prominent part in the town's affairs. With this removal from Malden the Shepardson family found its home in a tract of land called Rehoboth North Purchase, which in cluded what later became the towns of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Attleboro, Norton, and Mansfield, Mass., places in which the family has been represented almost continuously for more than two hundred years. The early records of Attleboro, Rehoboth, and Cumberland seem faulty and there is considerable confusion in the first few generations, but there is every indication that all Americans named Shepardson may be traced back to Attleboro, except a few recent immigrants from England. Indifference as to the origin of their family is really felt by few; for the pride of ancestry seems to be innate in nearly every one; those only affect to despise it who are ignorant of their descent, and can lay claim to no hereditary insignia Of honor - practically expressing the sentiment of Montaigne: 'if we cannot attain to greatness ourselves, let us have our revenge by rail ing at it in others.'
