Book Aquatic Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry A Dual Perspective

Download or read book Aquatic Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry A Dual Perspective written by Patricia M. Glibert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights perspectives, insights, and data in the coupled fields of aquatic microbial ecology and biogeochemistry when viewed through the lens of collaborative duos – dual career couples. Their synergy and collaborative interactions have contributed substantially to our contemporary understanding of pattern, process and dynamics. This is thus a book by dual career couples about dual scientific processes. The papers herein represent wide-ranging topics, from the processes that structure microbial diversity to nitrogen and photosynthesis metabolism, to dynamics of changing ecosystems and processes and dynamics in individual ecosystems. In all, these papers take us from the Arctic to Africa, from the Arabian Sea to Australia, from small lakes in Maine and Yellowstone hot vents to the Sargasso Sea, and in the process provide analyses that make us think about the structure and function of all of these systems in the aquatic realm. This book is useful not only for the depth and breadth of knowledge conveyed in its chapters, but serves to guide dual career couples faced with the great challenges only they face. Great teams do make great science.

Book Advanced Monitoring in P2P Botnets

Download or read book Advanced Monitoring in P2P Botnets written by Shankar Karuppayah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-17 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents current research in the area of advanced monitoring in P2P botnets, and uses a dual-perspective approach to discuss aspects of botnet monitoring in-depth. First, from the perspective of a defender, e.g. researchers, it introduces advanced approaches to successfully monitor botnets, taking the presence of current botnet anti-monitoring mechanisms into consideration. Then, adopting a botmaster perspective to anticipate the advances in future botnets, it introduces advanced measures to detect and prevent monitoring activities. All the proposed methods were evaluated either using real-world data or in a simulation scenario. In addition to providing readers with an in-depth understanding of P2P botnets, the book also analyzes the implications of the various design choices of recent botnets for effectively monitoring them. It serves as an excellent introduction to new researchers and provides a useful review for specialists in the field.

You might even wonder if it could all be based on one American males life at first glance, but it is, it's based on mine. Have you ever wondered why you had to experience things in this life so harshly? Or possibly ever wanted to ask the heavens what you could have done to deserve the struggles you have faced? Finally, have you ever considered what that interaction might truly look like or what would actually be said in that session? This book dives right into those queries as you follow the real life struggles of a boy who comes to be the embodiment of all men. And like you, and like all men, he'll be asked to face the hardest of lessons along his way but who will surprise you with each step of the way. Taking on accountability does not always lead to happy endings but it will always lead him to understanding what this life is all about. The real question is, do you really want to know the truth? The first is the man himself (the Psychological ID), and the other is his Soul (the Psychological Super Id). From why he was molested, to why he had to experience a life within a cult of mammoth proportions, this true life stories end will keep its promise of revealing some truths you may or may not want to hear. But you will not know unless you come along for the ride . Like in the beginning of man, it will all begin with one simple question, what came first, the chicken or the egg? Book Mind and Its Evolution

Download or read book Mind and Its Evolution written by Allan Paivio and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book updates the Dual Coding Theory of mind (DCT), a theory of modern human cognition consisting of separate but interconnected nonverbal and verbal systems. Allan Paivio, a leading scholar in cognitive psychology, presents this masterwork as new findings in psychological research on memory, thought, language, and other core areas have flourished, as have pioneering developments in the cognitive neurosciences. Mind and Its Evolution provides a thorough exploration into how these adaptive nonverbal and verbal systems might have evolved, as well as a careful comparison of DCT with contrasting "single-code" cognitive theories. Divided into four parts, this text begins with a general, systematic theory of modern human cognition as the reference model for interpreting the cognitive abilities of evolutionary ancestors. The first half of the book discusses mind as it is; the second half addresses how it came to be that way. Each half is subdivided into two parts defined by thematic chapters. Mind and Its Evolution concludes with evidence-based suggestions about nourishing mental growth through applications of DCT in education, psychotherapy, and health. This volume will appeal to cognitive and evolutionary psychologists, as well as students in the areas of memory, language, cognition, and mind evolution specialists in psychology, philosophy, and other disciplines.

Book Securitization and Desecuritization of FARC in Colombia

Download or read book Securitization and Desecuritization of FARC in Colombia written by Basar Baysal and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Securitization and Desecuritization of FARC in Colombia introduces a new dual framework for securitization, called “dual securitization,” which regards securitization as a whole process that ends after the desecuritization of the given issue. Başar Baysal examines this process in three phases: (1) definition, (2) construction, and (3) (in)securitization-in-action. Additionally, the dual securitization framework takes both bottom-up and top-down characteristics of the process of securitization into consideration and examines both macro-level decision-making processes and discursive efforts and micro-level security practices. This book looks at the Colombian Conflict, and the empirical part of the study examines the contextual factors that facilitated the dual securitization of FARC and the Colombian State; definition, construction and insecuritization-in-action phases of the dual securitization process; and the ongoing process of desecuritization in Colombia.

Book In Two Minds

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jonathan St. B. T. Evans

  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 388 pages

Download or read book In Two Minds written by Jonathan St. B. T. Evans and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2009 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the idea that we have two minds - one that is automatic, unconscious, and fast, the other controlled, conscious, and slow. In recent years there has been great interest in so-called dual-process theories of reasoning and rationality. According to dual processs theories, there are two distinct systems underlying human reasoning - an evolutionarily old system that is associative, automatic, unconscious, parallel, and fast, and a more recent, distinctively human system that is rule-based, controlled, conscious, serial, and slow. Within the former, processes are held to be innate and to use heuristics which evolved to solve specific adaptive problems. In the latter, processes are taken to be learned, flexible, and responsive to rational norms. Despite the attention these theories are attracting, there is still poor communication between dual-process theorists themselves, and the substantial bodies of work on dual processes in cognitive psychology and social psychology remain isolated from each other. This book brings together leading researchers on dual-processes to summarize the state of the art, highlight key issues, present different perspectives, explore implications, and provide a stimulus to further work. It includes new ideas about the human mind both by contemporary philosophers interested in broad theoretical questions about mental architecture and by psychologists specialising in traditionally distinct and isolated fields. For all those in the cognitive sciences, this is a book that will advance dual-process theorizing, promote interdisciplinary communication, and encourage further applications of dual-process approaches.
