Book Specifications for an STD CTD System at the NODC

Download or read book Specifications for an STD CTD System at the NODC written by Eugene J. Molinelli and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) has an obligation to archive stratification data including the modern measurements made by electronic STDs and CTDs. In a companion report (Molinelli and Kirwan, 1980) the information requirements on an STD/CTD system are determined. In this report, NODC's present system is evaluated in terms of its ability to handle the required information and in terms of the cost, speed and simplicity of the system's operation. These items are presented in Section 2. Specific improvements to the system are recommended in Section 3. Appendices are included which give more details than are presented in the text of this report.

Book Development of a CTD System for Environmental Measurements Using Novel PCB MEMS Fabrication Techniques

Download or read book Development of a CTD System for Environmental Measurements Using Novel PCB MEMS Fabrication Techniques written by Heather Allison Broadbent and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic principles of a planar four-electrode conductivity cell and the resistive temperature device are described here as well as the integration and the packaging of the microfabricated sensors for the underwater environment. Measurement results and successful field evaluation data show that the performance of the LCP thin-film microsensors can compete with that of conventional in-situ instruments.

Book Usability in Government Systems

Download or read book Usability in Government Systems written by Elizabeth Buie and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-05-21 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a usability specialist or interaction designer working with the government, or as a government or contractor professional involved in specifying, procuring, or managing system development, you need this book. Editors Elizabeth Buie and Dianne Murray have brought together over 30 experts to outline practical advice to both usability specialists and government technology professionals and managers. Working with internal and external government systems is a unique and difficult task because of of the sheer magnitude of the audience for external systems (the entire population of a country, and sometimes more), and because of the need to achieve government transparency while protecting citizens' privacy.. Open government, plain language, accessibility, biometrics, service design, internal vs. external systems, and cross-cultural issues, as well as working with the government, are all covered in this book. Covers both public-facing systems and internal systems run by governments Details usability and user experience approaches specific to government websites, intranets, complex systems, and applications Provides practical material that allows you to take the information and immediately use it to make a difference in your projects

Book Data Analysis Methods in Physical Oceanography

Download or read book Data Analysis Methods in Physical Oceanography written by William J. Emery and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-04-03 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data Analysis Methods in Physical Oceanography is a practical referenceguide to established and modern data analysis techniques in earth and oceansciences. This second and revised edition is even more comprehensive with numerous updates, and an additional appendix on 'Convolution and Fourier transforms'. Intended for both students and established scientists, the fivemajor chapters of the book cover data acquisition and recording, dataprocessing and presentation, statistical methods and error handling, analysis of spatial data fields, and time series analysis methods. Chapter 5on time series analysis is a book in itself, spanning a wide diversity oftopics from stochastic processes and stationarity, coherence functions,Fourier analysis, tidal harmonic analysis, spectral and cross-spectralanalysis, wavelet and other related methods for processing nonstationarydata series, digital filters, and fractals. The seven appendices includeunit conversions, approximation methods and nondimensional numbers used ingeophysical fluid dynamics, presentations on convolution, statisticalterminology, and distribution functions, and a number of importantstatistical tables. Twenty pages are devoted to references. Featuring:. An in-depth presentation of modern techniques for the analysis of temporal and spatial data sets collected in oceanography, geophysics, and other disciplines in earth and ocean sciences.. A detailed overview of oceanographic instrumentation and sensors - old and new - used to collect oceanographic data.. 7 appendices especially applicable to earth and ocean sciences ranging from conversion of units, through statistical tables, to terminology and non-dimensional parameters. In praise of the first edition: "(...)This is a very practical guide to the various statistical analysis methods used for obtaining information from geophysical data, with particular reference to oceanography(...)The book provides both a text for advanced students of the geophysical sciences and a useful reference volume for researchers." Aslib Book Guide Vol 63, No. 9, 1998 "(...)This is an excellent book that I recommend highly and will definitely use for my own research and teaching." EOS Transactions, D.A. Jay, 1999 "(...)In summary, this book is the most comprehensive and practical source of information on data analysis methods available to the physical oceanographer. The reader gets the benefit of extremely broad coverage and an excellent set of examples drawn from geographical observations." Oceanography, Vol. 12, No. 3, A. Plueddemann, 1999 "(...)Data Analysis Methods in Physical Oceanography is highly recommended for a wide range of readers, from the relative novice to the experienced researcher. It would be appropriate for academic and special libraries." E-Streams, Vol. 2, No. 8, P. Mofjelf, August 1999

Book Biological Sampling in the Deep Sea

Download or read book Biological Sampling in the Deep Sea written by Malcolm R. Clark and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deep sea covers over 60% of the surface of the earth, yet less than 1% has been scientifically investigated. There is growing pressure on deep-sea resources and on researchers to deliver information on biodiversity and the effects of human impacts on deep-sea ecosystems. Although scientific knowledge has increased rapidly in recent decades, there exist large gaps in global sampling coverage of the deep sea, and major efforts continue to be directed into offshore research. Biological Sampling in the Deep Sea represents the first comprehensive compilation of deep-sea sampling methodologies for a range of habitats. It reviews the real life applications of current, and in some instances developing, deep-sea sampling tools and techniques. In creating this book the authors have been able to draw upon the experiences of those at the coal face of deep-sea sampling, expanding on the existing methodological texts whilst encompassing a level of technical detail often omitted from journal publications. Ultimately the book will promote international consistency in sampling approaches and data collection, advance the integration of information into global databases, and facilitate improved data analyses and consequently uptake of science results for the management and conservation of the deep-sea environment. The book will appeal to a range of readers, including students, early-career through to seasoned researchers, as well as environmental managers and policy makers wishing to understand how the deep-sea is sampled, the challenges associated with deep survey work, and the type of information that can be obtained.
