This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's abstract: "The purpose of the six-week study was to compare the SOAR TO SUCCESS reading progeram and the Harcourt Trophies basal intervention program to determine which one was more effective for the third-grade remedial reading students. The two groups of students were given a teacher-created pretest and posttest to assess growth. Each group contained twenty-one students. The intervention took place during thiry-minute sessions each day. a two-tail, two-sample t test with an alpha of 0.05 was used to compare the reading comprehension achievement gain scores of the two groups. The evidence proved that there was no significant difference in reading comprehension scores of the students using the SOAR TO SUCCESS reading program compared to students using the Harcourt Trophies basal intervention program."

This book was released on 2006 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This program evaluation examined oral reading fluency gains made using Corrective Reading Decoding B1 (Engelmann, Hanner, & Johnson, 1999) as a supplemental reading program. Four third grade students, identified as struggling readers, participated in the intervention at an urban elementary school. Data were gathered from within-program oral reading fluency measures. The students' oral reading fluency rates were compared to lesson goals set within the Corrective Reading program and with Washington State oral reading fluency Grade Level Expectations (GLE). All students met the Corrective Reading goals set for each lesson. However, only two students met the Washington State oral reading fluency GLE standard during the supplemental reading program"--Document.

Book The Effects of the Reading Academy Intensive Support Education RAISE Summer School Program on Students Third Grade Reading Guarantee TGRG Assessment Scores

Download or read book The Effects of the Reading Academy Intensive Support Education RAISE Summer School Program on Students Third Grade Reading Guarantee TGRG Assessment Scores written by Susan M. Breymaier and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing struggling readers with research-based interventions, outside of the regular school day, is advantageous in giving students the time they need to remediate the basic foundational skills necessary for proficient reading. Therefore, to increase learning time and provide reading intervention for students who have not mastered basic foundational reading skills, Toledo Public Schools delivers an intense, research-based summer reading intervention program (RAISE) to third grade students who have not met the Third Grade Reading Guarantee (TGRG) by the end of the students' third grade school year. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the reading achievement of students participating in this intensive, summer reading program. Quantitative analysis is the methodology that was used in this study to determine if statistical differences existed on reading assessment scores for students who qualified for the RAISE summer program. The results of the SPSS analysis indicated that students who attended the RAISE summer program earned a slightly higher mean score, the following school year, on their spring state reading assessment than students who were identified for the RAISE program and did not participate. However, the difference was not statistically significant. The results further indicated that even though there was sufficient evidence that there may be a difference for the same student before and after participation in the RAISE summer program, for a majority of the years analyzed, the t-test mean scores were, in most cases, not high enough to meet the TGRG requirements. The results also indicated that while students who attended the RAISE summer program made mean score gains, there was no significant differences between students who attended more than 80 percent of the time and students who attended less than 80 percent of the time. Implications of this study indicate that increased learning time outside the regular school day does benefit students, however, this increased learning time needs to occur before third grade. Recommendations were made for both practice and future research, including recommendations for early childhood increased learning time programs.

Book The Impact of a Balanced Reading Basal on Third grade Reading Achievement

Download or read book The Impact of a Balanced Reading Basal on Third grade Reading Achievement written by Windy Dorsey and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A student’s ability to acquire reading skills plays a critical role in ensuring a student’s success in life. Therefore, students reading below grade level can be cause for alarm. Students who attended third grade in a Title I school district demonstrated a lack of proficiency in balanced reading based on formative and summative assessments. As a result, the district adopted a reading basal program in 2013; however, the effectiveness of the program on third-grade students’ achievement had not been examined. This convergent parallel mixed-method study sought to determine if the reading program increased third-grade student achievement. The research questions of the study examined the reading achievement scores of third-grade students and the effectiveness of McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders. Significant differences were observed when a paired sample t test measured progress on the Reading 3D composite, Text Reading Comprehension, and North Carolina Beginning of Grade/North Carolina End of Grade from the beginning of the year to the end of year. Responses from a teacher survey and interviews provided descriptive quantitative and qualitative data that revealed teacher perceptions of McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders basal program and the impact on student achievement. Qualitative responses were reviewed and analyzed for common themes. The overall findings suggest that McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders had a positive effect on student reading achievement. The findings of this study can be used to help educators make data-driven decisions about utilization of balanced reading programs in the classroom.

Book Effect on Reading Fluency of Struggling Third Grade Students

Download or read book Effect on Reading Fluency of Struggling Third Grade Students written by Corey Martin and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research study examined two intervention programs, Read Naturally (computer-assisted) and The Six-Minute Solution (teacher-guided), for the purpose of finding their effects on reading fluency with 3rd grade students at an elementary school. The participants were from two separate third grade classrooms, randomly assigned to one of the two intervention programs. There were five participants in the Read Naturally program and four participants in The Six-Minute Solution program. Fluency, the word correct per minute (WCPM), was based on assessments through AIMSweb R-CBM fluency probes. The data was analyzed to determine which program has a greater effect on fluency. Results from posttest scores indicated that after four weeks of intervention, there was an increase in fluency in both programs. However, the Read Naturally program showed a significantly higher rate of WCPM (words correct per minute). Results show that repeated reading programs help increase reading fluency. Educators need to see the significance in repeated reading programs and the positive effect it can have on increasing reading fluency. A sample lesson plan is appended.
