Book I Was Gone Long Before I Left

Download or read book I Was Gone Long Before I Left written by Peter C. Wilcox and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In St. Teresa of Avila’s classic spiritual book Interior Castle she describes a difficult period of time in her spiritual journey when she said, “When I think of myself, I feel like a bird with a broken wing.” When I left the monastery thirty-eight years ago, this was exactly how I felt. I Was Gone Long Before I Left is the story about my interior struggle to leave the monastery after living this lifestyle for over twenty-five years. It explores the reasons why I went to the monastery, why I stayed, why I eventually left, and what I have learned. Maybe more importantly, it describes the many years of mental anguish, confusion, and depression that I went through to finally make this decision. It has brought back many painful memories and experiences and called for an honesty and vulnerability that I found daunting. For over thirty-eight years, I have been unable to write about my experience of life in the monastery because I felt ashamed. For years, I thought about leaving, but couldn’t make this decision because I felt paralyzed psychologically and emotionally. Now, after all these years, I have found the courage to share my story.

Book Re constructing the Adolescent

Download or read book Re constructing the Adolescent written by Jennifer Andrea Vadeboncoeur and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young people today are frequently demonized by media images as well as by classroom reports. Dominant discourses, as ways of seeing and talking about youths, are constructed and managed by adults and offer young people a limited set of roles to play and options for engaging with society. Contributors to Re/Constructing the «Adolescent» problematize the «social construction of the adolescent» through a critique of the discourses that position youths and an examination of how youths enact, contest, and sometimes transform those same discourses. These studies, combining empirical research and semiotic analyses, offer a fresh perspective on young people in western societies today, at the level of everyday discourse, embodied through gesture and symbolic action, with material effects.

Book Life Science Origins Scientific Theory Parent Lesson Plan

Download or read book Life Science Origins Scientific Theory Parent Lesson Plan written by and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to use this lesson planner This course is intended to help a student assess information about evolution and creation, and based on the information provided for each, form his or her own understanding of this issue. The author spent 30 years in a challenge to prove evolution, yet the more he learned, the more the truth of God’s Word became apparent in the evidence and interviews he found while travelling the world speaking to scholars, museum officials, and viewing artifacts. While originally designed for classroom use, this course represents substantial value and flexibility for those who choose to home educate. The content and organization of the teacher manual, means that this course can be used by more than one student at a time, or even multiple times for a single student without reusing course testing materials. Chapter Objectives:These are presented in a way that is perfect for students to answer in a notebook – having students copy the question and then answer in the notebook is even more helpful by putting the question and answer in proximity and context. These notes in combination with the chapter tests are excellent resources for preparing for sectional tests (if given) or a final exam at the end. Chapter objective can be shared with a student or students, and then kept in a binder for future use if needed. Students are also encouraged to keep these questions and answers for pre-test studying. Chapter Exams: For each chapter, an A, B and C test is provided in the teacher’s manual. Here is how you can extend your use of this material: Option 1: You can follow the instructions in the book which are designed for one student. Or you can modify one of the following options for your student, and still have enough course materials to use the course multiple times. Option 2: You could have up to three students taking the course at the same time, with each student having different tests if you assign each Test A to one student, Test B to another, and Test C to a third. This insures each student has a different test and educators can better assess each student’s individual understanding of the material at each point. Alternate sectional and final exams are included in this manual for your convenience. Option 3: Adjust the testing and materials to your educational program. For example, each chapter test could be used as additional worksheet material for one or more students, with only the included sectional exams to be administered. Or even just use a final exam for testing comprehension of material if you wish to assign several essays, project, or a term paper based on individual questions of your choice from the exams and objectives or based on a chapter topic. This option would allow for additional writing and research opportunities and for some students, while engaging them more fully in comprehension and application of knowledge for this educational material. Sectional Exams: If used for a single student, a combination of “B” tests from the teacher’s manual form the basis of a sectional exam. Alternate sectional exams are included in this package to give you added flexibility in using this course per your own educational program needs whether are teaching one or multiple students at one time, or for future use. Final Exam: “C” tests form a 190 page final exam if you are using the book per its instructions. If you are choosing one of the alternate options discussed, you will find an alternate final exam in this packet for your convenience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book is the war diary of a Flying Tiger American Volunteer Group crew chief from the 3rd Pursuit Squadron. Much of the Flying Tiger history is written from the pilot's viewpoint. These brave pilots deserve much praise, but those who fixed the aircraft and kept them flying also have a story to tell. Though their story is perhaps not as flashy, it is quite interesting and very much in tune with the everyday spirit of that intense period before America entered the World War II. This book contains Losonsky's war diary, which is supplemented with interviews and dialogue, and includes over 200 unpublished photographs. This format provides the reader with a multi-dimensional view of the period. Flying Tiger will give aviation historians new insights into the days shortly before the Flying Tiger successes in late 1941.

Book How to Begin When Your World Is Ending

Download or read book How to Begin When Your World Is Ending written by Molly Phinney Baskette and published by Broadleaf Books . This book was released on 2022-11-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moving, witty, and probing, Molly Baskette's practical and spiritual perspective will appeal to readers of Lori Gottlieb's Maybe You Should Talk to Someone and Kate Bowler's Everything Happens for a Reason. As a progressive parish minister, Molly Baskette has been a companion during the most vulnerable, traumatized, and unsettled periods of many people's lives. She has also had a front row seat to remarkable human transformation, as many of the ruptures her people lived through turned out to be the way that God got in. But when she was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer at age thirty-nine, with two small children, her theology of and relationship to God was tested more profoundly than ever. Instead of becoming despondent, though, she engaged with her faith more deeply--seizing the opportunity to test the seaworthiness of the faith she had been practicing and preaching. In How to Begin When Your World is Ending, Baskette shares the questions that confronted her along the way like: Is it true that prayer changes things? Does God care whether we live or die--and is there a damn thing God can do about it anyway? How can vulnerability, counterintuitively, be a strength? And the million-dollar question: is there life after death, and just what might it be like? Weaving together her own story and the stories of those she encountered in her life of faith, Baskette mines joy from all the hardest parts of being human. In doing so she reminds us that whatever you are going through, someone has been there before you, and found meaning in the madness.
