Book excerpt: The most popular of all of Crestline's many automotive titles, 75 Years of Chevrolet is actually a total rewrite of the former 60 Years of Chevrolet. The latter book, which came out in 1972, became not only Crestline's all-time best seller, but one of the best selling automotive history books ever published on a single make of car. Set in chronological sequence, the book consists of 75 chapters (one for each year) spread over 536 pages & containing 2,680 photos of virtually every model passenger car ever made by Chevrolet. Also included are numerous illustrations & references to the multitude of trucks turned out by Chevrolet, as well as samplings of professional cars; race cars; custom bodies, & experimental vehicles. Such Chevrolet sub-makes as Corvetts, Camero, Corvair, Nova & others are detailed, as are their engine & chassis specifications, list prices, weights, & production figures on a per-body-style basis. The author is George H. Dammann, general manager of Crestline Publishing Co. A professional writer since 1954, he is the author of eight full-length hard cover books on automotive histories, & has edited or co-authored over 30 other titles on both automotive & agricultural history.

Book U S Army Chevrolet Trucks in World War II

Download or read book U S Army Chevrolet Trucks in World War II written by Didier Andres and published by Casemate. This book was released on 2020-04-30 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed, pictorial history of the 1 1/2-ton Chevy truck and its use by the U.S. Army during World War II. From 1940 to 1945, large numbers of trucks of all categories were delivered to the U.S. Army by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors. Over 160,000 of these trucks were G-506 light four-wheel-drive trucks—which became the standard 1 1/2-ton, 4x4 truck for both the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps during the war. In addition, many more thousands were delivered to Allied forces as part of the Lend-Lease program, including nearly 50,000 delivered to the Soviet Union. Tough, well-built, and more agile than the deuce and a half, the Chevy 11⁄2 ton played a part in every theater of operations during the war. Its durability and mechanical reliability made it ideal for a wide range of missions. Not for nothing did Chevy advertise the trucks during the war as “Vehicles of Victory.” More than 75 years after it was designed, the small Chevrolet truck is still a favorite with collectors. This fully illustrated book details the different series of trucks and their many uses within the U.S. Army including cargo trucks, panel delivery trucks for the Signal Corps, dump trucks for engineers, telephone trucks, tractors, and bomb service trucks for the air force. It also covers their part in the Lend-Lease program, and their continued use after the war.

Book American Cars 1973 1980

Download or read book American Cars 1973 1980 written by J. “Kelly” Flory, Jr. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 961 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1973 oil crisis forced the American automotive industry into a period of dramatic change, marked by stiff foreign competition, tougher product regulations and suddenly altered consumer demand. With gas prices soaring and the economy in a veritable tailspin, muscle cars and the massive "need-for-speed" engines of the late '60s were out, and fuel efficient compacts were in. By 1980, American manufacturers were churning out some of the most feature laden, yet smallest and most fuel efficient cars they had ever built. This exhaustive reference work details every model from each of the major American manufacturers from model years 1973 through 1980, including various "captive imports" (e.g. Dodge's Colt, built by Mitsubishi.) Within each model year, it reports on each manufacturer's significant news and details every model offered: its specifications, powertrain offerings, prices, standard features, major options, and production figures, among other facts. The work is heavily illustrated with approximately 1,300 photographs.

Book The USA from a Chevrolet

Download or read book The USA from a Chevrolet written by James A. Ward and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In July 1965, an Artesian Turquoise Chevrolet Biscayne rolled off a General Motors assembly line. Little did James Ward know that this car would become a cherished member of his family, playing a role in his wedding, honeymoon, years of graduate school, birth of his daughter, and her wedding, among countless other memories. Four decades--and a lot of history--later, the author still drives this rolling historical artifact dubbed Phoebe. Using the Biscayne as a narrative thread, this first-person account explores facets of American history the author and Phoebe experienced since the mid-1960s, such as a KKK cross-burning, a civil rights march, Hurricane Betsy, numerous local diners, motels, and parks, and interesting people and out-of-the-way places. Looking for remnants of their youth, they drove across back roads in twenty-first century America. Photographs accompany this unique memoir.
