Topics addressed include the virial equation of state, cubic equations and generalized van der Waals equations, perturbation theory, integral equations, corresponding stated and mixing rules. Special attention is also devoted to associating fluids, polydisperse fluids, polymer systems, self-assembled systems, ionic fluids and fluids near critical points.

Book Liquids and Liquid Mixtures

Download or read book Liquids and Liquid Mixtures written by J S Rowlinson and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquids and Liquid Mixtures, Third Edition explores the equilibrium properties of liquids and liquid mixtures and relates them to the properties of the constituent molecules using the methods of statistical thermodynamics. Topics covered include the critical state, fluid mixtures at high pressures, and the statistical thermodynamics of fluids and mixtures. This book consists of eight chapters and begins with an overview of the liquid state and the thermodynamic properties of liquids and liquid mixtures, including vapor pressure and heat capacities. The discussion then turns to the thermodynamics of and inequalities at the critical point; measurement of thermodynamic functions in the critical region; experimental values of the critical exponents; and scaling of the free energy. The change of thermodynamic functions with composition is the subject of the next two chapters, followed by an analysis of fluid mixtures at high pressures. The final chapter is devoted to the statistical thermodynamics of fluids and mixtures, paying particular attention to the thermodynamic properties in terms of the forces between the molecules; the balance of intermolecular potentials between like and unlike molecules; and phase behavior. This monograph will be of interest to students and researchers in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering.

Book Optimal Mixture Experiments

Download or read book Optimal Mixture Experiments written by B.K. Sinha and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-24 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book dwells mainly on the optimality aspects of mixture designs. As mixture models are a special case of regression models, a general discussion on regression designs has been presented, which includes topics like continuous designs, de la Garza phenomenon, Loewner order domination, Equivalence theorems for different optimality criteria and standard optimality results for single variable polynomial regression and multivariate linear and quadratic regression models. This is followed by a review of the available literature on estimation of parameters in mixture models. Based on recent research findings, the volume also introduces optimal mixture designs for estimation of optimum mixing proportions in different mixture models, which include Scheffé’s quadratic model, Darroch-Waller model, log- contrast model, mixture-amount models, random coefficient models and multi-response model. Robust mixture designs and mixture designs in blocks have been also reviewed. Moreover, some applications of mixture designs in areas like agriculture, pharmaceutics and food and beverages have been presented. Familiarity with the basic concepts of design and analysis of experiments, along with the concept of optimality criteria are desirable prerequisites for a clear understanding of the book. It is likely to be helpful to both theoreticians and practitioners working in the area of mixture experiments.

Book Thermal Nonequilibrium Phenomena in Fluid Mixtures

Download or read book Thermal Nonequilibrium Phenomena in Fluid Mixtures written by W. Köhler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermodiffusion describes the coupling between a temperature gradient and a resulting mass flux. Traditionally, the focus has been on simple fluids, and it is now extending to more complex systems such as electrolytes, polymers, colloidal dispersions and magnetic fluids. This book widens the scope even further by including applications in ionic solids. Written as a set of tutorial reviews, it will be useful to experts, nonspecialist researchers and postgraduate students alike.

Book excerpt: Open this “Poetic Mixture;” and see what’s inside, Allow my God given talent to take you for a ride. Don’t judge this book by the very first poem. Please! Dig a wee bit deeper. Once you’ve thumbed through where my mind have gone, I’m for certain you’ll want to keep her. You know sometimes when you hear a song, Or a thought may come to mind. Someone may say something that just sticks, And it ends up being a rhyme. Everything is not just poetry, There is laughter, private thoughts, and plenty of praise. In addition there are some things that I’ve recollected, From way back in the days. With a twist right here and a turn over there, This was written for your delight. But all things are not so amusing, When you have to take a stand and fight. No, I haven’t always been Christ-like, And many struggles I tastefully share. But don’t get so holy and shut this book, Like your mind have never been there. Check it out! You’ll be inspired! Enjoy this hearty treat! The whole shebang was purposely designed, To touch your heart and make you think.

Book Optical Characteristics of Gas Discharge Plasma in Mixtures of Mercury Dibromide Vapor with Gases

Download or read book Optical Characteristics of Gas Discharge Plasma in Mixtures of Mercury Dibromide Vapor with Gases written by Antonina Malinina and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the results of a number of studies on the spectral, integral and temporal characteristics of radiation and DBD plasma parameters on mixtures of mercury dibromide vapor and gases such as helium, argon, neon, xenon, krypton, nitrogen, and sulfur hexafluoride. Gas-discharge plasma in such mixtures is used as a working medium for exciplex sources of pulsed-periodic coherent lasers and spontaneous radiation (excilamps) in a blue-green spectral region with a wavelength at a maximum intensity equal to 502 nm. Such radiation sources attract the attention of researchers due to the highly specific radiation power (a record for the visible spectral range), the possibility of a wide tuning of the radiation wavelength, and the ability to operate in a repetitively pulsed mode. The book proposes the application of research results to create efficient gas-discharge excilamps of blue-green and ultraviolet spectral ranges, and will appeal to scientists, engineers and graduate students who specialize in plasma physics and quantum electronics.
