Book Event Design for Tambira s 20th Anniversary Celebration

Download or read book Event Design for Tambira s 20th Anniversary Celebration written by Pamela Zigomo and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tambira is a fictional organisation that promotes engagement with a traditional musical instrument from Zimbabwe known as the mbira, which is also known as a finger harp. The organisation focuses on supporting the development of musicians who use this instrument as well as educating members of the public and encouraging them to play this instrument whilst learning more about Shona culture, which is prominent in the northern and eastern regions of Zimbabwe. Tambira is celebrating its twentieth anniversary and would like to host an international conference on the heritage of the mbira that incorporates traditional conference elements as well as a cultural programme of live music performances and concerts for members of the public and school music groups. The three-day event must be designed to support key ambitions of the organization around professional development and celebration of the culture of traditional mbira music. The theme for the conference is 'Looking back to move forward'. The conference will be held in the iconic tourist resort town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. This case study gives students the opportunity to apply event design theory to design an event with both cultural and educational elements.

Book excerpt: It’s 1945. American soldiers return home to ticker tape parades and overjoyed families; Private First Class Donny Novitski, singer and songwriter, returns with the hope of rebuilding his life with just the shirt on his back and a dream in his heart. When NBC announces a national competition to find the nation’s next swing band sensation, Donny joins forces with a motley group of fellow veterans, and together they form a band unlike any the nation has ever seen. However, complicated relationships, the demands of the competition, and the challenging after-effects of war may break these musicians. But, when Donny meets a beautiful, young singer named Julia, he finds the perfect harmony in words and music that could take this band of brothers all the way to the live radio broadcast finale in New York City. Victory will require every ounce of talent, stamina, and raw nerve that these musicians possess.

Book excerpt: From the Japanese word meaning "to create value," this book presents a fresh perspective on the question of the ultimate purpose of education. Mixing American pragmatism and the Buddhist philosophy of respect for all life, the goal of Soka education is the lifelong happiness of the learner. Rather than offering practical classroom techniques, this book speaks to the emotional heart of both the teacher and the student. With input from philosophers and activists from several cultures, it advances the conviction that the true purpose of education is to create a peaceful world and to develop the individual character of each student in order to achieve that goal. This revised edition contains four new chapters that further elaborate on how to unlock self-motivated learning and how to empower the learner to make a difference in their communities and the world.
