Marzano provides elementary educators with a comprehensive framework for vocabulary instruction. By organizing these terms into semantic clusters and subject areas, Marzano creates a powerful and unique approach to ensuring students build their vocabulary. Book The role of constituents in multiword expressions

Download or read book The role of constituents in multiword expressions written by Sabine Schulte im Walde and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiword expressions (MWEs), such as noun compounds (e.g. nickname in English, and Ohrwurm in German), complex verbs (e.g. give up in English, and aufgeben in German) and idioms (e.g. break the ice in English, and das Eis brechen in German), may be interpreted literally but often undergo meaning shifts with respect to their constituents. Theoretical, psycholinguistic as well as computational linguistic research remain puzzled by when and how MWEs receive literal vs. meaning-shifted interpretations, what the contributions of the MWE constituents are to the degree of semantic transparency (i.e., meaning compositionality) of the MWE, and how literal vs. meaning-shifted MWEs are processed and computed. This edited volume presents an interdisciplinary selection of seven papers on recent findings across linguistic, psycholinguistic, corpus-based and computational research fields and perspectives, discussing the interaction of constituent properties and MWE meanings, and how MWE constituents contribute to the processing and representation of MWEs. The collection is based on a workshop at the 2017 annual conference of the German Linguistic Society (DGfS) that took place at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany

Book excerpt: Enjoy this humorous urban fantasy series with an antihero demon by author Debra Dunbar *** A gemstone might destroy the world before I get the chance to do it myself. Interdimensional rifts are opening, spilling supernatural creatures into the world of the humans. Locating and closing the gateways takes two—an angel and a demon. It’s the opportunity I’ve been waiting for, the common goal that might allow demons and angels to put aside nearly three million years of hate. But there’s a stolen gem I need to find to pay off a debt—a gem with a dark power that could shatter any hope of peace between heaven and hell. I’ll have to decide where to focus my energies and choose who to trust, or a war will descend on us that rivals the one that originally split the angelic host. *** If you like Shannon Mayer, K.F. Breene, Shayne Silvers, Hailey Edwards, or Yasmine Galenorn, you'll love this series. The Imp world includes demons, angels, werewolves, elves, vampires, and more.

Book excerpt: The author of Nine Women, One Dress delivers a charming, unforgettable novel about four women, one little lie, and the big repercussions that unite them all. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. When Eliza Hunt created The Hudson Valley Ladies’ Bulletin Board fifteen years ago she was happily entrenched in her picture-perfect suburban life with her husband and twin preschoolers. Now, with an empty nest and a crippling case of agoraphobia, the once-fun hobby has become her lifeline. So when a rival parenting forum threatens the site’s existence, she doesn’t think twice before fabricating a salacious rumor to spark things up a bit. It doesn’t take long before that spark becomes a flame. Across town, new mom and site devotee Olivia York is thrown into a tailspin by what she reads on the Bulletin Board. Allison Le is making cyber friends with a woman who isn’t quite who she says she is. And Amanda Cole, Eliza’s childhood friend, may just hold the key to unearthing why Eliza can’t step out of her front door. In all this chaos, one thing is for sure…Hudson Valley will never be the same. Funny, romantic, raw, and hopeful, this is a story about being a woman and of the healing power of sisterhood.

Book Multiword expressions

Download or read book Multiword expressions written by Manfred Sailer and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiword expressions (MWEs) are a challenge for both the natural language applications and the linguistic theory because they often defy the application of the machinery developed for free combinations where the default is that the meaning of an utterance can be predicted from its structure. There is a rich body of primarily descriptive work on MWEs for many European languages but comparative work is little. The volume brings together MWE experts to explore the benefits of a multilingual perspective on MWEs. The ten contributions in this volume look at MWEs in Bulgarian, English, French, German, Maori, Modern Greek, Romanian, Serbian, and Spanish. They discuss prominent issues in MWE research such as classification of MWEs, their formal grammatical modeling, and the description of individual MWE types from the point of view of different theoretical frameworks, such as Dependency Grammar, Generative Grammar, Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar, Lexical Functional Grammar, Lexicon Grammar.
