Book excerpt: Many otherwise sound evangelical leaders, thinking that hte only misleading doctrine is "Darwinism," are being seduced by the promise of "progressive creationism." Its most prominent voice, astronomer Dr. Hugh Ross, has convinced many that here is a biblically sound way to accommodate the "facts of science." With brilliant clarity, Jonathan Sarfati, author of the best-selling Refuting Evolution (1 & 2) has produced a comprehensive and biblically-based refutation of progressive creationism. He addresses such issues as: death, bloodshed, and disease existed before Adam and Eve. True? ; Noah's flood was only a local event. Really? ; Man-like creatures existed before Adam and Eve, but had no spirit, and thus no salvation. Evidence? ; Six days or six ages? What does the biblical text actually say? -back cover.

Book The Restoration of Israel

Download or read book The Restoration of Israel written by Gerhard Falk and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The restoration of Israel to the Holy Land was originally an English, Protestant idea. Jewish Zionism came later and succeeded only because of the Holocaust. The principal impetus for the promotion of a Jewish return to Zion was religious and began with the translation of the Bible from the Hebrew to English by Tindale. Because literature in the English language depicted Jews almost always in an unfavorable light, both British and American religious and political leaders were ambivalent about Jews. Nevertheless, the religious impulse to restore Israel became political in the twentieth century and succeeded with the establishment of the Jewish state in 1948.

Book One Thousand Years with Jesus

Download or read book One Thousand Years with Jesus written by Matthew Bryce Ervin and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-03-28 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time is coming when the world will be radically changed for the better. It will last for a thousand years, bookended by resurrections, first of the just and then of the unjust. Satan will be chained in the abyss, no longer free to influence the nations. The saints will reign alongside the King of kings, Jesus Christ. This is a time that will begin after the return of the Messiah and end with Satan's total defeat and the judgment of sinners. It is the very culmination of history, a transition away from the fallen world into the perfection of the eternal state. This is a time known as the Millennium and the Messianic Kingdom. An understanding of this critical age makes the Bible come together as one metanarrative. It helps tell the story of the Scriptures.

Book 12 Hours In Heaven

Download or read book 12 Hours In Heaven written by David L. Henson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CAUGHT UP TO THE SECOND AND THIRD HEAVENS ! For the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal - 2 Cor. 4:18 Sam Henson was an Oklahoma farmer. In August 1937 he had appendicitis. Three days after the operation he was burning up with fever and hurting all over. He had a premonition he was going to die. He prayed that he'd be allowed to finish raising his family. When the 7 p.m. nurse (a Christian lady) came on duty, as she was coming into his room the Lord spoke to her and said "I want you to take good care of this man, he's Mine" so she stayed with him all night long. It was when she first came into the room that he felt himself slipping away. He said he was there in no time, he was taken to Paradise. The next morning just after the 7 a.m. nurse had come on duty, is when he knew he came back into his body. He had spent those 12 hours in Heaven. He said the hospital records then (1937) showed he was dead that long. This is a true story & account of my grandfather's out of the body experience he had back in August 1937. (They didn't call it near death experience back then). He was dead for 12 hours while he was taken to Paradise which he said is the Second Heaven. Jesus told him his prayer was answered, and He told him that he had to go back. While he was there he saw Paradise and the place called Hell. After seeing Paradise, he didn't want to come back any time soon. Then Jesus told him again "You have to go back." Then He said, "Come and see." Instantly he was caught up to the Third Heaven where God's throne is, high and lifted up; He took him back in time and began showing him a Vision of the entire history of the Universe. He took him back before there were any stars or angels, and showed him the Universe being created. He saw the things in the Bible "happening." Beginning with Genesis right on through to the end, seeing the things in the book of Revelation happen. He was shown things as far ahead as 5,000 years into the future pertaining to God's Creation. Contained in this book: * The Vision of the entire history of the Universe * A Look at Paradise and the Holy City and the New Earth * Scenes of hell and the lake of fire St. John was taken to the Third Heaven in the spirit back when he was shown a Vision (Rev. 21:10; 9:17 etc). The Apostle Paul mentions vision(s) in 2 Cor.12:1-2, and in the first verse uses the word "revelation" the same way it is used in Rev. 1:1. What Sam Henson saw is best explained as "unsearchable things past finding out" (Job 5:9; 9:10). My grandfather described in detail everything the Lord showed him, to my father some fifty years ago. Sam Henson died 40 years later, in August 1977, almost to the day. Continuing on the work that my father began about 30 years ago which was compiled from Sam Henson's own descriptive words, I am publishing this book including several drawings made by my father, along with Biblical and Scientific evidence that I have found. The website is inseparable from the book because the research work is unending. I created the website (primarily) with those in mind who have already read the book; but it is available for all to view. Book excerpt: The “intimate and expansive” (Time) memoir of “one of the most important artists working in the world today” (Financial Times), telling a remarkable history of China over the last hundred years while also illuminating his artistic process “Poignant . . . An illuminating through-line emerges in the many parallels Ai traces between his life and his father’s.”—The New York Times Book Review (Editors’ Choice) ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Time, BookPage, Booklist, Kirkus Reviews Once a close associate of Mao Zedong and the nation’s most celebrated poet, Ai Weiwei’s father, Ai Qing, was branded a rightist during the Cultural Revolution, and he and his family were banished to a desolate place known as “Little Siberia,” where Ai Qing was sentenced to hard labor cleaning public toilets. Ai Weiwei recounts his childhood in exile, and his difficult decision to leave his family to study art in America, where he befriended Allen Ginsberg and was inspired by Andy Warhol and the artworks of Marcel Duchamp. With candor and wit, he details his return to China and his rise from artistic unknown to art world superstar and international human rights activist—and how his work has been shaped by living under a totalitarian regime. Ai Weiwei’s sculptures and installations have been viewed by millions around the globe, and his architectural achievements include helping to design the iconic Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium in Beijing. His political activism has long made him a target of the Chinese authorities, which culminated in months of secret detention without charge in 2011. Here, for the first time, Ai Weiwei explores the origins of his exceptional creativity and passionate political beliefs through his life story and that of his father, whose creativity was stifled. At once ambitious and intimate, Ai Weiwei’s 1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows offers a deep understanding of the myriad forces that have shaped modern China, and serves as a timely reminder of the urgent need to protect freedom of expression.

Book Understanding End Times Prophecy

Download or read book Understanding End Times Prophecy written by Paul Benware and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians think of end times prophecy as a gigantic, intimidating puzzle -- difficult to piece together and impossible to figure out. But every puzzle can be solved if you approach it the right way. Paul Benware compares prophecy to a picture puzzle. Putting the edge pieces together first builds the 'framework' that makes it easier to fit the other pieces in their place. According to Benware, the framework for eschatology is the biblical covenants. He begins his comprehensive survey by explaining the major covenants. Then he discusses several different interpretations of end times prophecy. Benware digs into the details of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the judgements and resurrections, and the millennial kingdom. But he also adds a unique, personal element to the study, answering questions as: -Why study bible prophecy? -What difference does it make if I'm premillenial or amillenial? If what the Bible says about the future puzzles you, Understanding End Times Prophecy will help you put together the pieces and see the big picture.

Book A Thousand Years of Good Prayers

Download or read book A Thousand Years of Good Prayers written by Yiyun Li and published by Random House. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brilliant and original, A Thousand Years of Good Prayers introduces a remarkable new writer whose breathtaking stories are set in China and among Chinese Americans in the United States. In this rich, astonishing collection, Yiyun Li illuminates how mythology, politics, history, and culture intersect with personality to create fate. From the bustling heart of Beijing, to a fast-food restaurant in Chicago, to the barren expanse of Inner Mongolia, A Thousand Years of Good Prayers reveals worlds both foreign and familiar, with heartbreaking honesty and in beautiful prose. “Immortality,” winner of The Paris Review’s Plimpton Prize for new writers, tells the story of a young man who bears a striking resemblance to a dictator and so finds a calling to immortality. In “The Princess of Nebraska,” a man and a woman who were both in love with a young actor in China meet again in America and try to reconcile the lost love with their new lives. “After a Life” illuminates the vagaries of marriage, parenthood, and gender, unfolding the story of a couple who keep a daughter hidden from the world. And in “A Thousand Years of Good Prayers,” in which a man visits America for the first time to see his recently divorced daughter, only to discover that all is not as it seems, Li boldly explores the effects of communism on language, faith, and an entire people, underlining transformation in its many meanings and incarnations. These and other daring stories form a mesmerizing tapestry of revelatory fiction by an unforgettable writer.
