Book Archean Rare Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia

Download or read book Archean Rare Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia written by Thomas Dittrich and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites are important resources for rare metals. For Cs, only the LCT pegmatites with the zeolite group mineral pollucite at Bikita (Zimbabwe Craton) and Tanco (Superior Province Craton) are of commercial importance. Common characteristics of world-class LCT pegmatite deposits include their Meso- to Neoarchean age and geological setting within greenstone belt lithologies on Archean Cratons. This study presents the first coherent and comparative scientific investigation of five major LCT pegmatite systems from the Yilgarn, Pilbara and Zimbabwe Craton. For the evaluation of their Cs potential and of the genetic concepts of pollucite formation, the pegmatites from Wodgina, Londonderry, Mount Deans and Cattlin Creek were compared to the Bikita pollucite mineralization. The integration of the new data (e.g., geochronological and radiogenic isotope data) into the complex geological framework: 1) enhances our knowledge of the formation of LCT pegmatite systems, and 2) will contribute to the further exploration of additional world-class LCT pegmatite deposits, which 3) may host massive pollucite mineralisations.

Book Classification and Inventory of the World s Wetlands

Download or read book Classification and Inventory of the World s Wetlands written by C.M. Finlayson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together, for the first time, information on various wetland classification systems and wetland inventories from around the world, outlining regional, national and local wetland classifications developed in Africa, Australia, Canada, China, Europe, India, South America and the USA. Oriented towards the conservation and management of wetlands, these existing national and regional classification systems have been useful in providing an essential base for the development of an international system. The volume also reviews various attempts at drawing up an inventory of wetlands in different parts of the world, ranging from field and literature surveys to highly sophisticated efforts using aerial photography and satellite imaging. Audience: Workers in wetland ecology, especially those working on classification, inventory, conservation, or management of wetlands at the local, national, regional or international levels.

Download or read book Lake Mcilwaine written by J.A. Thornton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. ' Genesis 1:6 Lake McIlwaine is a man-made lake. It was formed in 1952 by the Hunyani poort Dam and is situated on the Hunyani River some 37 km southwest of Salisbury* in the Republic of Zimbabwe**. It is a lake of many aspects: being a popular recreational site, the City's primary water supply reservoir (and the fourth largest impoundment in Zimbabwe), a source of irrigation water to downstream farms, an important fishery, and, until the 1970s, the receptacle of Salisbury's sewage effluent. It is, in short, typical of so many 'urban' lakes in Africa and throughout the world. Lake McIlwaine is also unique, to my knowledge: being amongst the first of the major man-made lakes on the continent to suffer from what is known as cultural eutrophication, and the first to be r:ehabilitated to a mesotrophic state through a rational programme of lake management. This volume synthesizes this process of eutrophication and recovery in terms of the geology and geography (Chapter 2), physics (Chapter 3), chemistry (Chapter 4) and biology (Chapter 5) of the lake, and, whilst discussion of the trophic relationships between these components is beyond the scope of this monograph, discusses its utilisation, conservation and management (Chapter 6). * Subsequent to writing, the name of the Zimbabwean capital was changed to Harare on 18 April 1982. - Ed.
