Book An Astronaut s Guide to Life on Earth

Download or read book An Astronaut s Guide to Life on Earth written by Chris Hadfield and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel to space and back with astronaut Chris Hadfield's "enthralling" bestseller as your eye-opening guide (Slate). Colonel Chris Hadfield has spent decades training as an astronaut and has logged nearly 4000 hours in space. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. The secret to Col. Hadfield's success-and survival-is an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst- and enjoy every moment of it. In An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, Col. Hadfield takes readers deep into his years of training and space exploration to show how to make the impossible possible. Through eye-opening, entertaining stories filled with the adrenaline of launch, the mesmerizing wonder of spacewalks, and the measured, calm responses mandated by crises, he explains how conventional wisdom can get in the way of achievement — and happiness. His own extraordinary education in space has taught him some counterintuitive lessons: don't visualize success, do care what others think, and always sweat the small stuff. You might never be able to build a robot, pilot a spacecraft, make a music video or perform basic surgery in zero gravity like Col. Hadfield. But his vivid and refreshing insights will teach you how to think like an astronaut, and will change, completely, the way you view life on Earth — especially your own. "Hadfield proves himself to be not only a fierce explorer of the universe, but also a deeply thoughtful explorer of the human condition." —Maria Popova, Brain Pickings

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bar Code Puzzle By: W. E. Anderson For fifty years, an obvious message has been hidden in plain sight. This work reveals it. Within the Universal Product Code, the scannable code emblazoned upon nearly every product we use today, there is a discernible order to the numbers, though the original author of the code claimed it was arbitrary. This order shows numerical ties to mathematical formulae from the pyramids and numbers pertinent to Biblical prophecy. The Bar Code Puzzle proves these links, not through speculation, but rather through sound facts from the code itself. The connections are undeniable, and Anderson’s sobering insights are relevant to Christians and non-Christians alike. Regardless of a reader’s convictions, they will come away from this work with a new sense of wonder and a desire to reevaluate their beliefs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book as well as all other books and manuscripts, published or yet unpublished, written by the author, began after a dream experience in which I was encouraged to write. At that time, it didn’t seem possible that I could do such a thing. However, after other inner and outer experiences having taken place, the process of writing began. Although, at first, I wasn’t sure of what I would be writing about, for the writings were somehow inspired. One dream experience, of which one is not likely to forget, is the one where a being of an higher inner realm whispered in my ear, saying, “you are chosen.” But what for? I wasn’t sure at that time. Another similar dream was one in which I was given the WORD to bring back. Again, at that time, I wasn’t sure what that meant. However, after several manuscripts were written and reread by me, things began to fit into place. That is, the dream experiences were becoming a reality. Although the writings must speak for themselves, I feel now that I was chosen to present the WORD, the WORD of the Transonic Consciousness, which is the WORD embracing the realm of the end and the beginning of a cycle of time. The Transonic WORD, then, is the WORD that takes in the harvesting of a previous cycle of time, and the WORD for the beginning of a new cycle of time. Therefore, the WORD is the everlasting WORD, the everlasting gospel, as it were. Inasmuch as the WORD is the everlasting WORD, it is backed by an infinity of beings within the inner and outer realms of being.

Book Reading Theory Now

Download or read book Reading Theory Now written by Eamonn Dunne and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading Theory Now explores movements in critical thinking through a host of radical theorists, and channels those movements through the work of one of the most influential proponents of critical interpretation in the world today, J. Hillis Miller. It enables its readers to see how and why theoretical models of reading are of use only in the practical event of reading literary and philosophical texts, that the politics and poetics of interpretive paradigms are constantly shifting, changing and evolving as present day perspectives transform those traditions unalterably. it seeks to invite its readers to challenge the concept of the paradigm, the school, the movement, even the sequence, by presenting them with a choice to read in their own way, to "dip" in and out of singular events of interpretation from A to Z. In this respect Reading Theory Now invites its audience to decide for him/herself where they begin and end their own critical analyses. Reading Theory Now also contains: *A Preface by J. Hillis Miller which comments on the significance of reading as an event and the centrality of political and ecological issues in his most recent work. *An Afterword by Julian Wolfreys which tackles these issues in Miller's latest books. *A select annotated bibliography which will help students coming to Miller's work for the first time to find their own way into his vast critical corpus.
