Book Estimating Groundwater Recharge

Download or read book Estimating Groundwater Recharge written by Richard W. Healy and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-09-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding groundwater recharge is essential for successful management of water resources and modeling fluid and contaminant transport within the subsurface. This book provides a critical evaluation of the theory and assumptions that underlie methods for estimating rates of groundwater recharge. Detailed explanations of the methods are provided - allowing readers to apply many of the techniques themselves without needing to consult additional references. Numerous practical examples highlight benefits and limitations of each method. Approximately 900 references allow advanced practitioners to pursue additional information on any method. For the first time, theoretical and practical considerations for selecting and applying methods for estimating groundwater recharge are covered in a single volume with uniform presentation. Hydrogeologists, water-resource specialists, civil and agricultural engineers, earth and environmental scientists and agronomists will benefit from this informative and practical book. It can serve as the primary text for a graduate-level course on groundwater recharge or as an adjunct text for courses on groundwater hydrology or hydrogeology. For the benefit of students and instructors, problem sets of varying difficulty are available at http://wwwbrr.cr.usgs.gov/projects/GW_Unsat/Recharge_Book/

Book Cellular Neural Networks

Download or read book Cellular Neural Networks written by Angela Slavova and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with new theoretical results for studyingCellular Neural Networks (CNNs) concerning its dynamical behavior. Newaspects of CNNs' applications are developed for modelling of somefamous nonlinear partial differential equations arising in biology, genetics, neurophysiology, physics, ecology, etc. The analysis ofCNNs' models is based on the harmonic balance method well known incontrol theory and in the study of electronic oscillators. Suchphenomena as hysteresis, bifurcation and chaos are studied for CNNs.The topics investigated in the book involve several scientificdisciplines, such as dynamical systems, applied mathematics, mathematical modelling, information processing, biology andneurophysiology. The reader will find comprehensive discussion on thesubject as well as rigorous mathematical analyses of networks ofneurons from the view point of dynamical systems. The text is writtenas a textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students inapplied mathematics. Providing a summary of recent results on dynamicsand modelling of CNNs, the book will also be of interest to allresearchers in the area.

Download or read book Beyond the Blur written by Shriharsh P. Tendulkar and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive optics (AO) corrects distortions created by atmospheric turbulence and delivers diffraction-limited images on ground-based telescopes. The vastly improved spatial resolution and sensitivity has been utilized for studying everything from the magnetic fields of sunspots upto the internal dynamics of high-redshift galaxies. This thesis about AO science from small and large telescopes is divided into two parts: Robo-AO and magnetar kinematics. In the first part, I discuss the construction and performance of the world's first fully autonomous visible light AO system, Robo-AO, at the Palomar 60-inch telescope. Robo-AO operates extremely efficiently with an overhead

Book Soil Pollution

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bruno Yaron
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642611478
  • Pages : 336 pages

Download or read book Soil Pollution written by Bruno Yaron and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The soil is the medium through which pollutants originating from human activities, both in agriculture and industry, move from the land surfaces to groundwater. Polluting substances are subject to complex physical, chemical and biological transformations during their movement through the soil. Their displacement depends on the transport properties of the water-air-soil system and on the molecular properties of the pollutants. Prediction of soil pollution and restoration of polluted soils requires an under standing of the processes controlling the fate of pollutants in the soil medium and of the dynamics of the contaminants in the un saturated zone. Our book was conceived· as a basic overview of the processes governing the behavior of pollutants as affected by soil constituents and environmental factors. It was written for the use of specialists working on soil and unsaturated zone pollution and restoration, as well as for graduate students starting research in this field. Since many specialists working on soil restoration lack a back ground in soil science or a knowledge of the properties of soil pollutants, we have included this information which forms the first part of the book. In the second part, we discuss the partitioning of pollutants between the aqueous, solid and gaseous phase of the soil medium. The retention, transformation and transport of pollutants in the soils form the third section.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1967, Professor Batchelor's classic text on fluid dynamics is still one of the foremost texts in the subject. The careful presentation of the underlying theories of fluids is still timely and applicable, even in these days of almost limitless computer power. This re-issue should ensure that a new generation of graduate students see the elegance of Professor Batchelor's presentation.

Book Diffusion Models of Environmental Transport

Download or read book Diffusion Models of Environmental Transport written by Bruce Choy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fate and transport models are critical components in the determination of the exposure to and risk from hazardous contaminants. Analytical models are preferable because they are generally more accessible, more reliable, and require fewer computational resources. Surprisingly, until today, only a limited number of analytical models have been accessible in the literature. Now, there is Diffusion Models of Environmental Transport, which provides more than 40 analytical models of diffusion and advective-diffusion in one, two, and three layer systems, subject to a wide range of boundary and initial conditions. This text illustrates applications to contaminant transport in sediments and soils, including porewater and vapor transport, and also provides Mathcad spreadsheets to aid in the use of these models. The authors supply complete details of the solutions to the models for those who wish for a deeper understanding. For others, who do not have the time or the need, the solutions themselves are ready to be picked up and used. Reible and Choy use their 20-plus years of cumulative experience to create a thorough exploration of fate and transport models. This comprehensive text furnishes an invaluable reference for students and environmental professionals.
