Book Zariski Geometries and Quantum Mechanics

Download or read book Zariski Geometries and Quantum Mechanics written by Milan Zanussi and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Model theory is the study of mathematical structures in terms of the logical relationships they define between their constituent objects. The logical relationships defined by these structures can be used to define topologies on the underlying sets. These topological structures will serve as a generalization of the notion of the Zariski topology from classical algebraic geometry. We will adapt properties and theorems from classical algebraic geometry to our topological structure setting. We will isolate a specific class of structures, called Zariski geometries, and demonstrate the main classification theorem of such structures. We will construct some Zariski structures where the classification fails by adding some noncommuting structure to a classical one. Finally we survey an application of these nonclassical Zariski structures to computation of formulas in quantum mechanics using a method of structural approximation developed by Boris Zilber."--Boise State University ScholarWorks.

Book Model Theory and Algebraic Geometry

Download or read book Model Theory and Algebraic Geometry written by Elisabeth Bouscaren and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introduction to the recent exciting developments in the applications of model theory to algebraic geometry, illustrated by E. Hrushovski's model-theoretic proof of the geometric Mordell-Lang Conjecture starts from very basic background and works up to the detailed exposition of Hrushovski's proof, explaining the necessary tools and results from stability theory on the way. The first chapter is an informal introduction to model theory itself, making the book accessible (with a little effort) to readers with no previous knowledge of model theory. The authors have collaborated closely to achieve a coherent and self- contained presentation, whereby the completeness of exposition of the chapters varies according to the existence of other good references, but comments and examples are always provided to give the reader some intuitive understanding of the subject.

Book The Unreal Life of Oscar Zariski

Download or read book The Unreal Life of Oscar Zariski written by Carol Parikh and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Unreal Life of Oscar Zariski records the life of Oscar Zariski that is based upon Carol Parikh's interviews with his family, colleagues, students, and his own memories from tape-recorded interviews conducted before his death in 1986. This book describes Oscar Zariski's work in mathematics that perpetually altered the foundations of algebraic geometry. The powerful tools he forged from the ideas of algebra allowed him to penetrate classical problems with a clarity and depth that brought a rigor to the way algebraic geometers carry out proofs. The strength of his work was matched by his forcefulness as a teacher, and the students he trained at Johns Hopkins and later at Harvard have made essential contributions to many areas of mathematics. This publication is beneficial to students and researchers interested in Oscar Zariski's life and work in mathematics.

Book A Course in Mathematical Logic for Mathematicians

Download or read book A Course in Mathematical Logic for Mathematicians written by Yu. I. Manin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. The ?rst edition of this book was published in 1977. The text has been well received and is still used, although it has been out of print for some time. In the intervening three decades, a lot of interesting things have happened to mathematical logic: (i) Model theory has shown that insights acquired in the study of formal languages could be used fruitfully in solving old problems of conventional mathematics. (ii) Mathematics has been and is moving with growing acceleration from the set-theoretic language of structures to the language and intuition of (higher) categories, leaving behind old concerns about in?nities: a new view of foundations is now emerging. (iii) Computer science, a no-nonsense child of the abstract computability theory, has been creatively dealing with old challenges and providing new ones, such as the P/NP problem. Planning additional chapters for this second edition, I have decided to focus onmodeltheory, the conspicuousabsenceofwhichinthe ?rsteditionwasnoted in several reviews, and the theory of computation, including its categorical and quantum aspects. The whole Part IV: Model Theory, is new. I am very grateful to Boris I. Zilber, who kindly agreed to write it. It may be read directly after Chapter II. The contents of the ?rst edition are basically reproduced here as Chapters I–VIII. Section IV.7, on the cardinality of the continuum, is completed by Section IV.7.3, discussing H. Woodin’s discovery.

Book Featured Reviews in Mathematical Reviews 1995 1996

Download or read book Featured Reviews in Mathematical Reviews 1995 1996 written by Donald G. Babbitt and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of reprinted 'Featured Reviews' published in Mathematical Reviews (MR) in 1995 and 1996 makes widely available informed reviews of some of the best mathematics published recently. 'Featured Reviews' were introduced in MR at the beginning of 1995 in part to provide some guidance to the current research-level literature. With the exponential growth of publications in mathematical research in the first half-century of MR, it had become essentially impossible for users of MR to identify the most important new research-level books and papers, especially in fields outside of the users' own expertise. This work identifies some of the "best" new publications, papers, and books that are expected to have a significant impact on the area of pure or applied mathematics with which researchers are concerned. All of the papers reviewed here contain interesting new ideas or applications, a deep synthesis of existing ideas, or any combination of these. The volume is intended to lead the user to important new research across all fields covered by MR.

Book Differential Algebra and Related Topics

Download or read book Differential Algebra and Related Topics written by Li Guo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential algebra explores properties of solutions of systems of (ordinary or partial, linear or non-linear) differential equations from an algebraic point of view. It includes as special cases algebraic systems as well as differential systems with algebraic constraints. This algebraic theory of Joseph F Ritt and Ellis R Kolchin is further enriched by its interactions with algebraic geometry, Diophantine geometry, differential geometry, model theory, control theory, automatic theorem proving, combinatorics, and difference equations. Differential algebra now plays an important role in computational methods such as symbolic integration and symmetry analysis of differential equations. These proceedings consist of tutorial and survey papers presented at the Second International Workshop on Differential Algebra and Related Topics at Rutgers University, Newark in April 2007. As a sequel to the proceedings of the First International Workshop, this volume covers more related subjects, and provides a modern and introductory treatment to many facets of differential algebra, including surveys of known results, open problems, and new, emerging, directions of research. It is therefore an excellent companion and reference text for graduate students and researchers.
