Book Your Sleep Sweet Spot Why Sleep and Dreams are Not an Option You Can Find Your Unique Ritual and Schedule

Download or read book Your Sleep Sweet Spot Why Sleep and Dreams are Not an Option You Can Find Your Unique Ritual and Schedule written by Diana Navarro M.S. and published by This Is Diana. This book was released on 2021-07-22 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is so much information on sleep out there and yet people still can’t get good sleep. Why is this? And equally important, how can we definitively change this? Let’s consider some issues missing or won’t find often or at all in the sleep advice world: ① Most if not all sleep expert information simply will disregard or brush by this area of fluctuating sleep cycles that don’t need to be fixed but worked with. I am suggesting it is worthy to explore different sleep schedules. Perhaps you go with the flow of your own body’s cycle instead of trying to conform to ill-informed societal standards instead. And ② Mind and specifically spirit are often ignored, minimized, or dismissed when it comes to explaining sleep’s purpose, the reason for dreams and overall human health. ③ The term “sleep hygiene” is being used wrongfully to describe what we really need and that is the power of sensory-fueled rituals that gently brings us to the state most conducive to deep, quality, and restorative sleep. Your Sleep Sweet Spot is a sleep routine, ritual, space design, schedule, and philosophy that implements bio-individuality. It provides you the best, most restorative sleep, optimal restoration, balance, and vital energy for your unique sleep cycle—nocturnal, diurnal, or alternative shift sleeper. It considers your specific physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. It also considers environmental, technological advances, and global interconnection, using what works and upgrading it to adjust with ongoing changes.★ Why are we experiencing so many problems associated with this essential need? These could range from chronic exhaustion, nightmares, sleep apnea, pain, insomnia, sleep paralysis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, inflammation, pain, cancer, mental impairments, mood disorders, increased accidents, emotional distress, pre-mature aging, and many more diseases and effects we are only discovering today. The core of my contribution to this work on sleep is that a person’s requirements for restorative sleep are as unique (bio-individual) as their DNA or fingerprint. Every guideline, suggestion, or technique has to be customized to your very unique need. Millions of people who need more sleep, while some can function with less sleep, and others need to break up their sleep cycle, for one reason or another, are left to flail because a) We are getting useless one-fits-all advice and information on sleep that isn’t working; b) And we feel as if we are doing something wrong, experiencing judgment from professionals, family, and society as a whole. This is not a body of work that gives you techniques that will provide you with a normal sleep schedule. This is because sleep is specific to each person, there is no such thing as normal when it comes to sleep. This is a project that helps you find your unique Sweet Sleep Spot. ★To find your sweet sleep spot, you need to know more about what sleep and dreams are, why you need them, and how to design your own sleep life with the right information and tools.◆ This work is my contribution to this cause to the awakening power of sleep and dreams. It includes personal experiences, research, theories, intuitive and philosophical introspection. Let’s see what we know about sleep and dreams and upgrade it to work better. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn how to achieve more by doing less! Live in that zone you’ve glimpsed but can’t seem to hold on to—the sweet spot where you have the greatest strength, but also the greatest ease. Not long ago, Christine Carter, a happiness expert at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and a speaker, writer, and mother, found herself exasperated by the busyness of modern life: too many conflicting obligations and not enough time, energy, or patience to get everything done. She tried all the standard techniques—prioritizing, multitasking, delegating, even napping—but none really worked. Determined to create a less stressful life for herself—without giving up her hard-won career success or happiness at home—she road-tested every research-based tactic that promised to bring more ease into her life. Drawing on her vast knowledge of the latest research related to happiness, productivity, and elite performance, she followed every strategy that promised to give her more energy—or that could make her more efficient, creative, or intelligent. Her trials and errors are our reward. In The Sweet Spot, Carter shares the combination of practices that transformed her life from overwhelmed and exhausting to joyful, relaxed, and productive. From instituting daily micro-habits that save time to bigger picture shifts that convert stress into productive and creative energy, The Sweet Spot shows us how to • say “no” strategically and when to say “yes” with abandon • make decisions about routine things once to free our minds to focus on higher priorities • stop multitasking and gain efficiency • “take recess” in sync with the brain’s need for rest • use technology in ways that bolster, instead of sap, energy • increase your ratio of positive to negative emotions Complete with practical “easiest thing” tips for instant relief as well as stories from Carter’s own experience of putting The Sweet Spot into action, this timely and inspiring book will inoculate you against “The Overwhelm,” letting you in on the possibilities for joy and freedom that come when you stop trying to do everything right—and start doing the right things. ONE OF GREATER GOOD’S FAVORITE BOOKS OF THE YEAR “[For fans] of a certain kind of self-improvement book—the kind, like The Happiness Project or 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think or Getting Things Done, that offers up strategies for making certain areas of life work better without requiring that you embrace a new belief system.”—KJ Dell’Antonia, The New York Times (Motherlode blog) “A breath of fresh air . . . Book The Insomnia Diaries

Download or read book The Insomnia Diaries written by Miranda Levy and published by Aster. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Telegraph readers' best book of the year A Financial Times readers' best 2021 summer book 'A powerful new book' - The Daily Mail 'Quite the story... fascinating' - Claire Byrne, RTE1 'This memoir meets manual with expert tips is both honest and helpful' - Victoria Woodhall, Get the Gloss FOREWORD BY DR SOPHIE BOSTOCK '29th June 0 HOURS, 0 MINUTES Eleven forty-seven pm. A door slams as the neighbour's teenage son comes home from the pub. An hour later, the last Tube rumbles past and I thump my pillow over to find a cool spot. I refuse to open the window because of my fear of hearing the first bird of morning, confirmation that the next day is about to start and I have failed, yet again. Failed in my quest to sleep, which one would think is a basic human right. But I am not a POW whose captors breach the Geneva Convention. No one has stolen my sleep from me. I am not wired up to electrodes, a neon light is not shining in my face all night long. I have blackout blinds and a king-size bed all to myself. My enemies are my brain and a body that has forgotten how to shut down.' After a single, catastrophic event, journalist Miranda Levy had one sleepless night, then another, and then another. She sought help from anyone she could: doctors, a therapist, an acupuncturist, a hypnotist, a reiki practitioner and a personal trainer - but nothing seemed to work. Sleep, wellbeing and mental health are intrinsically linked. Yet sleeplessness is surprisingly common: 16 million of us suffer from insomnia, and the sleep industry is worth £100 billion (Daily Mail). In The Insomnia Diaries, Miranda Levy tells the story of her experience of severe, disabling insomnia that affected every aspect of her life for years, and how she ultimately recovered. Part memoir, part reportage, this book will help anyone who struggles to get a good night's sleep - whether occasionally or all of the time - appreciate the issues and understand the options as they find their best way to get the rest they need. Dr Sophie Bostock, scientist, sleep expert and member of the team who developed the award-winning digital programme Sleepio, contributes a foreword. She and a host of expert contributors have advised on the medical elements within the text throughout.

For Amy Ettinger, ice cream is not just a delicious snack but a circumstance and a time of year—frozen forever in memory. As the youngest child and only girl, ice cream embodied unstructured summers, freedom from the tyranny of her classmates, and a comforting escape from her chaotic, demanding family. From a visit to the one place in the United States that makes real frozen custard in a mammoth machine known as the Iron Lung, to the vicious competition among small ice-cream makers and the turf wars among ice-cream trucks, to extreme flavors like foie gras and oyster, Ettinger encounters larger-than-life characters and uncovers what’s really behind America’s favorite frozen treats. Book The Nocturnal Brain

Download or read book The Nocturnal Brain written by Dr. Guy Leschziner and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A renowned neurologist shares the true stories of people unable to get a good night’s rest in The Nocturnal Brain: Nightmares, Neuroscience, and the Secret World of Sleep, a fascinating exploration of the symptoms and syndromes behind sleep disorders. For Dr. Guy Leschziner’s patients, there is no rest for the weary in mind and body. Insomnia, narcolepsy, night terrors, apnea, and sleepwalking are just a sampling of conditions afflicting sufferers who cannot sleep—and their experiences in trying are the stuff of nightmares. Demoniac hallucinations frighten people into paralysis. Restless legs rock both the sleepless and their sleeping partners with unpredictable and uncontrollable kicking. Out-of-sync circadian rhythms confuse the natural body clock’s days and nights. Then there are the extreme cases. A woman in a state of deep sleep who gets dressed, unlocks her car, and drives for several miles before returning to bed. The man who has spent decades cleaning out kitchens while “sleep-eating.” The teenager prone to the serious, yet unfortunately nicknamed Sleeping Beauty Syndrome stuck in a cycle of excessive unconsciousness, binge eating, and uncharacteristic displays of aggression and hypersexuality while awake. With compassionate stories of his patients and their conditions, Dr. Leschziner illustrates the neuroscience behind our sleeping minds, revealing the many biological and psychological factors necessary in getting the rest that will not only maintain our physical and mental health, but improve our cognitive abilities and overall happiness.
