This book was released on 2015-07-25 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the U.S. is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, we are far from being the healthiest, and consistently lag behind other developed nations in life expectancy and other population health measures. In fact, the country is suffering from chronic medical conditions, such as heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. These non-communicable diseases are largely the result of individual behaviors and lifestyle choices made in the context of a low physical activity, high calorie environment. In this publication, Dr. Michael Joyner and colleagues provide a roadmap to address the status quo by focusing on lifestyle factors that are best for healthspan (the period of life free of chronic diseases). Although the publication addresses the three primary causes of non-communicable chronic diseases - tobacco use, poor diet, and lack of proper physical activity, particular emphasis is placed on addressing physical inactivity. Numerous studies suggest that physical activity can compensate for other poor behaviors, yet about 50% of children and greater than 90% of adults and seniors do not meet the daily U.S. guidelines for physical activity. Something must be done to get the county back on track and improve the overall health of our population. The roadmap presented by Joyner and colleagues in this publication does just that. It is not only viable, but actionable today.

Book Healthcare Unhinged The Making of an Advocate

Download or read book Healthcare Unhinged The Making of an Advocate written by Liz Helms and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helms takes us through her unfiltered, uplifting story of chronic pain and severe depression to becoming a nationally recognized coalition builder and health care advocate as she battled to change a system that had failed millions. With stark honesty, she describes her personal struggle for appropriate care and the redemption she found challenging some of America’s most powerful, for-profit corporations on behalf of patient fairness and access to affordable, appropriate standards of quality care for all. “The power of one” an often over-used cliché, but the soul’s message of Unhinged; one woman joined by many to face down one dragon at a time; one voice joined by a chorus to alter forever, the conversation. Helms plots a roadmap for anyone who, even while questioning their own value or power, can move mountains unimagined by owning their voice, their sense of justice and their purpose. Armed with truth, directed purpose and willful respect, Helms proves that the ‘Lion’s den’ is but a myth, waiting to be challenged and exposed as such on behalf of all concerned.

Book Too Flexible To Feel Good

Download or read book Too Flexible To Feel Good written by Celest Pereira and published by Victory Belt Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you overly flexible or double-jointed? Perhaps you are the clumsy and tired person in your group of friends, often nursing an injury of some sort. If you are nodding in agreement with raised eyebrows and a knowing smirk on your face, then there is a chance you are hypermobile. Hypermobility affects a whopping 10 to 25 percent of the population (meaning it’s more common than being left-handed, standing over six feet tall, or having a third nipple), and it can cause symptoms ranging from minor discomfort to debilitating pain. Hypermobile people’s bendiness and tendency toward anxiety often lead them to yoga, where they find that they are at last praised for their physical ability and given tools to manage their hypersensitivity. However, the way yoga is taught frequently leaves this population susceptible to severe injuries, and they end up being told by medical professionals to avoid yoga. In this epic new book, fitness experts Adell Bridges and Celest Pereira redefine how to manage hypermobility, providing a practical roadmap that will enable you to harness your bendiness and feel fantastic. They reinforce the importance of stability, correct posture, and a healthy lifestyle, showing how, if managed properly, hypermobility is not debilitating but a superpower that you can use to live an extraordinary life. Too Flexible to Feel Good teaches you how to adapt your everyday habits such as your biomechanics and your diet to support and nourish your flexible body. This book also features: • Practical tips on how to hold your body for optimal results during training • Tools to help build awareness of your joint position in everyday life • Strategies for busting anxiety • Exercises that can improve your biomechanics • Diet and sleep considerations Too Flexible to Feel Good is also an invaluable resource for yoga teachers, fitness instructors, and medical professionals, helping them develop a deeper understanding of how best to help this population.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An I Weigh Book Club Pick “I have been a fan of Henry’s work for a long time and I’m excited for more people to see it.” —Jameela Jamil From the creator of Drawings of Dogs, a warmly illustrated and thoughtful examination of empathy and the necessity of being kinder The kindness we owe one another goes far beyond the everyday gestures of feeding someone else's parking meter--although it's important not to downplay those small acts. Kindness can also mean much more. In this timely, insightful guide, Henry James Garrett lays out the case for developing a strong, courageous, moral kindness, one that will help you fight cruelty and make the world a more empathetic place. So, how could a book possibly make you kinder? It would need to answer two questions: • Why are you kind at all? and, • Why aren't you kinder? In these pages, building on his academic studies in metaethics and using his signature-sweet animal cartoons, Henry James Garrett sets out to do just that, exploring the sources and the limitations of human empathy and the many ways, big and small, that we can work toward being our best and kindest selves for the people around us and the society we need to build.
