Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 25 unflinching stories and essays from the front lines of the radical mental health movement Overmedication, police brutality, electroconvulsive therapy, involuntary hospitalization, traumas that lead to intense altered states and suicidal thoughts: these are the struggles of those labeled “mentally ill.” While much has been written about the systemic problems of our mental-health care system, this book gives voice to those with personal experience of psychiatric miscare often excluded from the discussion, like people of color and LGBTQ+ communities. It is dedicated to finding working alternatives to the “Mental Health Industrial Complex” and shifting the conversation from mental illness to mental health.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demons of the Mind but a Light Still Shines By: Dave Goodwin You know it’s very difficult to regain trust after it’s been shattered by someone you totally trusted. I still have great difficulty going into public places; my eyes don’t move fast enough to watch everyone, and I hate anyone being behind me. I suppose that’s what happens when someone who professes to love you and thinks how wonderful you are suddenly, five minutes after telling you that, attacks you from behind, stabs you, and almost kills you. Writing these poems brings me a lot of comfort even though sometimes I’m very upset writing the traumatic ones; it does take away the pain if only for a short while. So if in reading them I bring some comfort to the reader, I’m happy, I’ve done what I intended. So for all those very special people in the world who are trying to face horrible and nasty situations, here is Demons of the Mind but a Light Still Shines.

Cornell dissects issues to do with blackness and racism using Fanon’s theories, Nyongesa deals with the Fetishism of Donald Trump’s policies known colloquially as Trumpism, Opicho calls it ‘inoracy’, Donald Trump’s statement, “Shit-hole”, some essayists took to the personal narrative you would find in Mhondera and Kantey’s essays, yet Pravda used the middle ground between playwriting, Filmmaking and the essay form, Ofodile investigates the problematic issue of Boko Horam terrorism in North Nigeria, Bearly looks at capitalism, so does Koffi with his French Language essay which is also translated into English, Ifeachor in his poem has praise for Donald Trump, Hall goes back to apartheid South Africa period and as a direct tangent Matshoba deals with Xenophobia in his letter written from the future. Smith looks at the white supremacist demonstrations, for or against Trump, Thompson and Swanson encourage us to unfocus on Donald Trump, and Thompson rightly blames us for allowing the likes of Donald Trump and the kind of Nationalism and Capitalism he stands for to grow. Download or read book Stars When the Sun Shines written by Wayne Stier and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spurred by the doctor’s predictions of an early death, Wayne Stier stayed out in front of time until he left it all together. Stier grew up in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, in the 1950s and 60s. Diagnosed with testicular cancer in his early 20s, and given a less than 50% chance of 5-year survival, Wayne and his wife Mars decided to make the most of the time he had. From Zen cherry blossoms to Japanese theatre. From Hawaiian breathing lessons to Thai healers. Stars When the Sun Shines is the spiritual memoir of a man whose wisdom gains on him as he learns to trust his intuition. And, in the reading, we’ll surely learn lessons of our own. Or as Stier lays down his hope, “The myth of my life is a metaphor for yours.” His writing is informed by everyone he talked to, everywhere he went. This is a book that will make you laugh and think. Cry and love. Stier’s writing burned through illusions to conclusions about a life so full he forgot he was dying... until he did, in Hawaii, May 30, 2009, just weeks after his 62nd birthday. A note from the publisher: I met Wayne Stier when I was 5 and he was 6. We grew up in the same town, both of us suspecting there must be more in the world. The first time I published his work was in our high school newspaper. The last time I saw him until a few weeks before he died he was telling me that the pop (soda) in my hand might exist in another plane in a different way or might not exist at all. The very last time I saw him we talked all night and planned at least three more books. I am beyond grateful to have met him. Saint, holy man, fool—all of those and more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She sought only to rescue herself, but the universe had a different plan; others could be saved too. In Buried Treasure: Unearth Your Golden Soul, Amakiasu Turpin-Howze shares universal laws and principles which transformed her personal trauma into life-giving waters. Her emotional distress drove her to take notes because, as she says, “I needed to hold on firmly to the wisdom of the ages. I needed something to soften the blow.” Fast forward several months to her little notebook, now chock full of inspirational messages that carried Amakiasu through one of the most difficult periods of her life. With her grief easing, she thought, “Surely, I’m not alone. Personal trauma is part of the human journey. Some barely survive, while others are scarred for the duration. If these principles saved my life, maybe they can help someone else too.” Those notes turned book, brim here with universal laws and principles that, if consciously applied, can catalyze the power within to elevate and enlighten us. They come from thought leaders, such as, Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, Neville Goddard, and Deepak Chopra. Their message is here for the taking. Amakiasu demonstrates and interprets many of these with stories and reflections from her life. Buried Treasure: Unearth Your Golden Soul is a veritable treasure trove for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of what it means to be spiritual beings on this Earth plane. If it doesn’t inspire you, it will, at minimum, give you much food for thought and tools for better living.
