Book excerpt: Serverless Handbook for frontend engineers is the resource I wish I had jumping into serverless. A guide borne of experience and pain. No academic bullshit where you're not sure if the author ever used this stuff in production. I have. From baby side-projects to high traffic data processing monsters. As Google likes to say: serverless architectures, ]from prototype to production to planet-scale Here's what early readers had to say. - Serverless Handbook taught me high-leveled topics. I don't like specific courses with source code (unless it's the exactly thing I want to build) but these chapters helped me to feel like i'm not a total noob anymore. The hand-drawn diagrams and high-leveled descriptions gave me the feeling that i don't have any critical "knowledge gaps" anymore - I'm using these skills on some serverless projects in a dayjob. Also very convenient to use with my side projects. - The code examples! I like that you included a lot of code examples. It sparked my interest in serverless. Since reading the book I've taken a few courses/workshops in serverless but this was the book that started the serverless journey for me. Can't wait to build a micro SaaS app with my friends Serverless Handbook takes you from backend beginner to solid full-stack engineer. It shows you the mindsets and tactics to use with any backend. It talks about distributed data processing, designing a REST API, how to build GraphQL, handling authentication, and keeping your code secure. Every chapter helps you choose what to do. Because your project is unique and understanding beats cookie-cutter recipes. This book is a why, not a how. But there's enough how to start you off: ) Serverless Handbook is everything I wish I knew about backend programming 10 years ago.
Download or read book The Workshop Survival Guide written by Rob Fitzpatrick and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Need to run a workshop? Your attendees are trusting you with their time and attention. What are you giving them in return? Most workshops don't work. They fail to deliver real results and they fail to keep the audience energetic and engaged. They're stressful to run and painful to attend. Designing and running a brilliant workshop is easier than you think. It's not about flashy showmanship or natural charisma. Instead, it's about following a set of clear, simple rules for structuring and arranging the day. Discover and use key design principles such as: Naturally refresh and maintain the audience's attention and energy by alternating the "teaching format" (e.g. lecture, small group discussion, hands-on practice) every 20 minutes and making strategic use of good breaks Dramatically improve your educational impact by choosing an exercise which is properly matched to the type of knowledge/skill/wisdom currently being taught Save dozens of hours by beginning your design process with a simple "skeleton" of Learning Outcomes and timings rather than jumping straight into slides and materials Finish on time, every time, by intentionally designing flexible "schedule springs" into your session, allowing you to seamlessly adjust to delays and bad luck, and to ensure that everyone learns what they came for without running late The first half of the book covers everything you'll need to know about designing and refining the session itself. With a good design in hand, teaching a brilliant workshop goes from arduous to nearly automatic. The second half of the book shifts from ahead-of-time design to day-of facilitation. Learn the essential facilitation needed to solve unexpected problems and run a smooth, stress-free workshop: Reliable tools and tactics for crowd control, recovering attention, and shifting between tasks (without feeling like you're fighting against your audience) Clear guidance for picking the best room setup, and also improving a "bad" room to make the most of it Spotting and problem-solving the six major types of "difficult" attentees who are being either accidentally or intentionally disruptive (including the most common issue of bringing a hostile expert onto your side) Checklists and reminders of what to bring, what to do, and when to do it, in order to ensure that nothing gets forgotten, overlooked, or lost At no point in the book will we ask you to "put on a big smile" or "project confidence". That's fluffy BS which doesn't work. Instead, we'll give you clear, concrete tools for managing a crowd and seamlessly guiding everyone to an effective outcome. Why we're the right authors to help you succeed Over the last 15 years, we've designed and run a huge number of successful workshops (and a few major flops) covering every type of audience: executives, undergrads, MBAs, disadvantaged youths, busy professionals, and more. We've designed everything from 20-minute teasers to 3-month intensives, in locations ranging from Costa Rica and Qatar to London and Berlin. We've taught for companies like HP and Deloitte and for universities like Oxford and NYU. We've built workshops for every price point, from free upskilling (paid for by the state or employer) through to $4000-per-seat premium events. We've taught casual sessions, with beer in hand and flip-flop on foot, through to formal, posh affairs with glitzy venues and high-end catering. In every case, no matter where it was located or who it was for, the process outlined in these pages worked. Perhaps most importantly, we can teach you how to do this. We've trained up teachers from scratch who are now billing upwards of $5000 per day and getting invited back to teach again and again. This stuff isn't complicated. You can learn it!
Download or read book Achieve Your Organization s Strategic Plan written by Dan Hogan and published by Dan Hogan. This book was released on 2022-03-15 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Achieve Your Company Goals with a Team Management System For an organization to achieve its vision, mission, and strategic objectives, everyone must do their part. But without a Team Management System (TMS), it can be challenging to keep teams moving in the same direction. A strong TMS ensures attitudes and work behaviors are aligned throughout your organization. Your TMS calls on each team to set performance goals aligned with the enterprise's strategic objectives. Every quarter, teams report progress towards achieving stated goals. Why Use Right-Minded Teamwork’s TMS Model? In this book, you will learn the Right-Minded Teamwork (RMT) approach to implementing a Team Management System. As you follow this four-phase plan, you will align teammate attitudes and work behaviors with company values to produce results. Within the first six to 12 months, your TMS will begin paying for itself. Within the first year, your TMS will demonstrate consistent, enterprise-wide gains. In this book, you will find detailed guidance on implementing all four phases. You will also find operation agreements, charters, and specific actions to take for the first 90 days and beyond. Here's How RMT’s Team Management System Works TMS is much like your employee performance management system but on a team level. Every team in the enterprise sets performance goals that align with and help achieve the enterprise’s strategic plan. Every quarter, each team measures and reports its actual progress towards achieving those goals. The following teams should be initially involved in establishing the organization’s TMS: Executive Leadership, TMS Steering Team, and Internal team-building facilitators. Eventually, the TMS is rolled out across the organization, and all teams participate. Phase 1 – Executive Leadership launches TMS. Here RMT is implemented in the executive team; RMT is adopted as the enterprise’s standard teamwork process and Executives establish a Steering Team that will start up and initially manage the TMS. Phase 2 – Steering Team creates, organizes, and pilots the TMS. Here the Steering Team creates the enterprise’s startup TMS, chooses team facilitators, pilots the startup TMS in a few teams, and fine-tunes the TMS in preparation for a broader enterprise rollout. Phase 3 – Measure performance and roll out the TMS to all teams. Within three to four months after startup, the first quarterly TMS results are reported, The TMS is rolled out to more teams within the first 12 to 18 months and within 24 months, TMS quarterly reports demonstrate beneficial enterprise results. Phase 4 – Continue TMS for growth and sustainability. The Steering Team is transformed into a stable growth and management phase with the executive team's support and guidance. Benefits: Why Establish an RMT-Based Team Management System? When an enterprise has a strong Team Management System, you increase the likelihood that every team is aligned with the enterprise's strategic plan, thus operating with focused clarity. This enterprise-wide alignment ensures all teams are pulling the organization in the same direction. Consequently, the organization regularly achieves a higher percentage of its strategic goals year over year. Within the first six to 12 months, RMT’s version of a TMS will begin paying for itself. Within the first 18 to 24 months, TMS will report consistent and demonstrable enterprise-wide results. These results, when communicated internally, will foster employee motivation and pride. When communicated externally, the enterprise’s reputation and stature increase. Start your journey today, and achieve enterprise-wide success with RMT’s Team Management System.

Book excerpt: Do you think Universe, in her ultimate wisdom, would present humanity with the wonderful gift of Reiki and then dictate that everyone use it and practice it in the exact same way? For the author, the answer is no. Each of us is an individual and when transmitting Reiki, the Universal Life Force Energy must take into account our individual differences. Reiki is not a static energy but a fluid one. For the author Reiki is a personal healing system, based on his relationship with Universe and the gift she gave him. And her gift is not a generic one. It is a personal one. That is the reason this book was written - to show the reader how to connect directly with the Reiki Energy and claim the personal gift the author believes you are entitled to. ,
