Download or read book The Jasper Project written by John D. Bransford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade, members of the Cognition and Technology Group at Vanderbilt University have worked with hundreds of teachers and thousands of students throughout North America in the context of the Adventures of Jasper Woodbury problem-solving series--12 videodisc-based adventures plus video-based analogs, extensions, and teaching tips designed to improve the mathematical thinking of students from grades 5 and up, and to help them make connections to other disciplines such as science, history, and social studies. The experience of developing the Jasper series, testing it in classrooms, and re-designing it based on feedback provided The Cognition and Technology Group at Vanderbilt with extraordinarily rich opportunities to learn from teachers, students, parents, administrators, and other community members. This book was written for two reasons. First, it helped the authors to organize the thoughts and experiences of over 70 members of the Learning Technology Center who worked on the Jasper project, and to collaboratively reflect on their experiences and relate them to the broader literature in cognition and instruction. Second, this book gives others a change to learn from the experiences of the Cognition and Technology Group at Vanderbilt. The book is anchored around their experiences with Jasper, but the issues explored are relevant to any attempt to improve educational practice. This book tells a coherent story that helps readers explore issues of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and teacher learning (professional development) within a single context (Jasper) and how all these topics are interrelated. It also helps readers see the relevance of research programs for improving educational practice. Throughout, the need for maintaining a balance of laboratory and classroom research is emphasized.

Download or read book Aces in the Wind written by David Lee Cooper and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of family trees. The book weaves together the tangle of branches that hold the characters in their grasp. The turbulent times of the Great Depression, WWII, and the social change of the 1960s serve merely as the backdrop to these peoples' lives. The reader meets James at pivotal points in his life. We begin by watching the relationship he has with his son. Then we veer back to James's father and how they live. There are decisions made, and great strengths and weaknesses are within each character. The women are complex and are the nails that hold the framework of these characters' lives. The characters deal with life head on and try to engage the better parts of their nature to navigate the waters of life. Like a grand poker game, the stakes are high and the players are serious. Some characters grow beyond themselves, while others halt and falter along the way. When the hands are shown and the money is paid, sometimes it comes down to how many aces are in the wind.

Book The Power of Middle School

Download or read book The Power of Middle School written by Keen J. Babbage and published by R&L Education. This book was released on 2012 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The middle school years are a maze of academic duties, human growth and self-development, discovering self identity, and increasing social interaction with other people. This maze can be an adventure of achievement and opportunity, or it can be a struggle of difficulty and disappointment. As these experiences are the impetus or foundation for many later achievements in academics, careers, and personal life, it is imperative that educators maximize these formative years by helping middle school students successfully travel through this maze despite its ups and downs, its twists and turns, and its new challenges to master and the old issues to resolve. For instance, educators must support students who have fallen behind, so as to thwart their reduced likelihood of turnaround in high school. Likewise, educators must challenge exceptional students, in order to perpetuate their enthusiasm for learning and prepare them for college studies. By discussing the comprehensive roles and duties of school administrators, counselors, and teachers, The Power of Middle School addresses how to maximize middle school curriculum and extra-curricular activities for the academic, personal, and professional benefits of all students.

  • Author : Priscilla Audette
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2020-11-11
  • ISBN : 1647019249
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book Letters from Grace written by Priscilla Audette and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-11-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Letters from Grace: The Story of an American Family is an intimate peek into the lives of the Quinn family. This story is akin to an anthropological excavation into what it means to be a family, celebrating said family in all its nuances. It is a story that will certainly appeal to your inner voyeur. When people die, they take with them a lifetime of secrets. Or do they? Letters from Grace begins after Grace has died. While this book begins with the death of Grace, it is not a distressing book. Death is part of life, and it is the knowledge that we gain after someone close to us dies that serves to enrich our lives, allowing us to live more fully. It is Grace’s death that catapults the reader into the heart of this family. It is where we begin: her three grown children have returned to their childhood home to go through their mother’s things and put the house on the market. As they sift through their mother’s writings, all kept in an old file cabinet, they challenge each other to learn more about their dead mother by reading her canon of articles and letters. In doing so, Savannah, Austin, and Dakota inadvertently expose a secret that challenges the core of their relationships as siblings.
