Book YOGA FOR STRESS REDUCTION IN NURSING STUDENTS

Download or read book YOGA FOR STRESS REDUCTION IN NURSING STUDENTS written by Terry Gustas and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undergraduate nursing students are under vast amounts of stress to adapt to the substantial workload while learning patient care. A lack of stress reduction tools in the nursing curriculum leaves these students at risk for stress related outcomes. In the past, research has addressed the effects of stress on health care providers, but little has been specific to nursing students. The rising popularity of yoga is an opportunity to offer such a tool to address stress in nursing students. Using YouTube as an avenue to provide yoga classes designed for stress reduction in nursing students is accessible for most of this population. This study was conducted to explore the hypothesis of using YouTube yoga videos to address stress reduction before and after participating over a two-week period. A review of related literature was examined and Tsai’s theory was the theoretical framework applied to the stress nursing students experience as they take on the new role of caregiver. A descriptive design was used to compare data collected.

It is evident from the translations of non-English work before early 1900's that the term 'nurse' was used with reference to male health care providers.

Book Effect Of Yoga Among Nursing Students A Randomized Controlled Study

Download or read book Effect Of Yoga Among Nursing Students A Randomized Controlled Study written by Monali D. Mathad and published by Independent Author. This book was released on 2022-12-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nursing students experience a considerable amount of stress to meet their professional demands both academic and clinical requirements. However, yoga is an effective practice to reduce stress and improve psychological and physical well-being. AIM To evaluate the effectiveness of an 8-week yoga intervention on psycho-physical functioning of nursing students. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a randomized wait-list control trial. We recruited 100 students from Kempegowda Institute of Nursing, Bangalore, and randomized them into two groups (yoga=50 and wait-list control=50 students). The following instruments were used to collect the data, Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory (FMI), Self-Compassion Scale- short form (SCS-SF), Connor- Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Jefferson Scale of Empathy HPS-Version (JSE-HPS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Sit and Reach Test, Peak Flow Meter, Handgrip Dynamometer, Pinch Gauge, and Purdue Pegboard. Data was analyzed using Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (RM-ANOVA) followed by post-hoc Bonferroni correction for all the variables. CONCLUSION Overall, the present study has demonstrated mixed results. Though we could not elucidate significant improvements in all the variables, an increase in mindfulness, self-compassion, low back, and hamstring flexibility, and pinch strength is worth noting. This improvement in psycho-physical functioning aid nursing students to meet the demands of the profession. Hence, yoga intervention can be recommended in nursing education.

Book A Guide for Developing a Culture of Caring Through Nursing Peer Mentorship Programs

Download or read book A Guide for Developing a Culture of Caring Through Nursing Peer Mentorship Programs written by Deborah Kramer (Nursing professor) and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes in detail how to develop successful programs of nursing mentorship, utilizing concepts of caring that yields a strong, caring body of nurses who will be "nurse thrivers" as they find fulfilment and meaning in their professional commitment and will train others to do the same. The mentorship program is the ticket to success that many students need to complete their degree program, prevent burnout, pass the nursing NCLEX examination, and remain in the workforce after graduation. The current attrition rate in baccalaureate nursing programs is 25-50%, as is the attrition rate in the first 2 years of employment of new RN's entering the workforce. Burnout is due to a lack of care and support for helping the students navigate the rigor and demands of the nursing program. Creating a community of learners with caring and support creates an environment that fosters academic engagement and success. The unique aspect of this book is its focus on creating a caring environment to support the students; helping them develop caring skills, empathy, resilience and their own self-care; developing the skills for success beyond their educational process into the workforce. This book integrates all patterns of knowing - personal, aesthetic, empiric and ethical - and provides the missing link of peer mentorship necessary to the development of resilient, emancipated nursing students and graduates capable of working in community with others to establish cultures of care in health care. This is a must have resource for transformation of nursing education in the next century! Foreword by Dr. Margaret McClure.

Book Yoga to Decrease Stress and Anxiety

Download or read book Yoga to Decrease Stress and Anxiety written by Christine Rowland and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In health care professionals who suffer from anxiety and stress, coping strategies such as yoga can decrease stress and anxiety. Health care professionals have demanding, high stress professions and are subjected to emotional distress which if not effectively managed, can lead to mental and physical illnesses, burnout, compassion fatigue, and exiting the health care profession (Cutliff and Jones, 2009). Health care workers need self-preserving strategies to maintain good emotional health and preserve their well-being. According to Ross, most people who practice yoga believe that their health is improved from practicing yoga (Ross, 2013). Development of resiliency is beneficial to health care professionals, enabling them to give the best possible care to the patients they serve. Stress and anxiety can affect cognition, behaviors, and emotions. Yoga is a low cost, portable, convenient way to help build resiliency. The author of this report suggests enlisting 75 individuals to participate in a two week trial of yoga in an attempt to help them decrease their levels of stress and anxiety. Volunteer yoga instructors will teach yoga classes and the participants will journal how they feel on the days they practice yoga both before and after. Volunteers for the trial, volunteer yoga instructors, the director of the wellness center, education department, director of nursing, co-leaders, and the pastor at the Methodist church would all play vital roles. Results will be retrieved from questionnaires distributed to the volunteers pre-trial and post-trial. If found to be valuable, these results could be introduced to orientations, wellness fairs, and yearly workshops that promote health and well-being.
