Book excerpt: So... we all know Brandy's a fine girl, and what a good wife she would be, but who says (with a little luck, Of course, and some lovely Irish charm) she couldn't steal the sailor from the sea?!? Surely there's more To The story than what we've been told. The locket is nice, As is the braided silver chain, but come on! There must be more to Brandy's life than serving whiskey and wine to drunken sailors while she impatiently waits For The man she loves to return to her port. Travel back in time with me as we explore Brandy's life. Who was she, really? Why did she continue to hold onto the hope of finding happiness with a man who has obviously rejected her? Why do any of us hold onto such hope when the odds are so clearly stacked against us? is it because there's always that slight chance that our dreams may come true in the end, And The heartache will have been worth it? I believe that is precisely the reason! If you agree, let's explore Brandy's story more closely to discover what we might find. Take my hand... Do you hear the rushing water as it crashes into the shore? Do you feel the warm California sun as it softly kisses your face, And The light breeze as it tousles your hair? If so, you're on the right track and our journey has begun.

Book Dictionary of Spoken Spanish

Download or read book Dictionary of Spoken Spanish written by U. S. War Dept and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a complete, unabridged republication of a Dictionary of Spoken Spanish, which was specially prepared by nationally known linguists for the U.S. War Department (TM#30-900). It is compiled from spoken Spanish and emphasizes idiom and colloquial usage in both Castilian and Latin American areas. More than 16,000 entries provide exact translations of both English and Spanish sentences and phrases; as many as 60 idioms are listed under each entry. This is easily the largest list of idiomatic constructions ever published. Travelers, business people, and students who are interested in Latin American studies have found this dictionary their best source for those expressions of daily life and social activity not usually found in books. More than 18,000 idioms are given, not as isolated words that you have to conjugate or alter, but as complete sentences that you can use without change. A 25-page introduction provides a rapid survey of Spanish sounds, grammar, and syntax, with full consideration of irregular verbs. It is especially apt in its modern treatment of phrase and clause structure. A 17-page appendix gives translations of geographical names, numbers, national holidays for Spanish countries, important street signs, useful expressions of high frequency, and a unique 7-page glossary of Spanish and Spanish-American foods and dishes.

Book World Music Pedagogy Volume VI School Community Intersections

Download or read book World Music Pedagogy Volume VI School Community Intersections written by Patricia Shehan Campbell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Music Pedagogy, Volume VI: School-Community Intersections provides students with a resource for delving into the meaning of "world music" across a broad array of community contexts and develops the multiple meanings of community relative to teaching and learning music of global and local cultures. It clarifies the critical need for teachers to work in tandem with community musicians and artists in order to bridge the unnecessary gulf that often separates school music from the music of the world beyond school and to consider the potential for genuine collaborations across this gulf. The five-layered features of World Music Pedagogy are specifically addressed in various school-community intersections, with attention to the collaboration of teachers with local community artist-musicians and with community musicians-at-a-distance who are available virtually. The authors acknowledge the multiple routes teachers are taking to enable and encourage music learning in community contexts, such as their work in after-school academies, museums and libraries, eldercare centers, places of worship, parks and recreation centers, and other venues in which adults and children gather to learn music, make music, and become convivial through music This volume suggests that the world’s musical cultures may be found locally, can be tapped virtually, and are important in considerations of music teaching and learning in schools and community contexts. Authors describe working artists and teachers, scenarios, vignettes, and teaching and learning experiences that happen in communities and that embrace the role of community musicians in schools, all of which will be presented with supporting theoretical frameworks.

Book Conscience on Stage

Download or read book Conscience on Stage written by Hilaire Kallendorf and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is no accident that some variation of the question 'What should I do?' appears in over three-quarters of the comedic plays of the Spanish Golden Age. Casuistical dialogue was a concern, even an obsession, of Spanish playwrights during the seventeenth century, many of whom were educated by Jesuit casuists. Conscience on Stage is a study of casuistry or case morality as the foundation for a poetics of seventeenth-century Spanish >em>comedias. Hilaire Kallendorf examines the Jesuit upbringing and casuistical education of major playwrights of the Spanish Golden Age, many of whom were also priests, and introduces the vocabulary of casuistry, as expressed in both confessors' manuals and in stage plays. Engaging issues of class, gender, and age to explore scenes of advice-giving and receiving, she demonstrates how the culture-specific construct of 'conscience' in early modern Spain can be recovered by means of a Foucauldian genealogy, which enlists the skills of philology at the service of a larger vision of the history of ideas. This study outlines and reiterates the relationship of theatre to casuistry, the Jesuit contributions to Spanish literary theory and practice, and the importance of casuistry for the study of early modern subjectivity.
