Book excerpt: Mainstream biblical scholarship is far from achieving consensus in its ongoing attempt to separate the glorified Jesus of faith from the ever elusive Jesus of history. It remains to be seen how soon traditional academia will overcome its reluctance to take the plunge into the New Testament's final, uncharted territory: the theory that Christianity began with belief in a spiritual heavenly Son of God, that the Gospels are essentially allegory and fiction, and that no historical Jesus worthy of the name existed. . . The Gospels and Acts of the Apostles form one small portion of the early Christian documentary record. They reflect but one category of thought and witness to what that broad movement came to believe in. Modern scholars and believers alike view the world of early Christianity through the prism of this narrow handful of inbred writings, a chain of literary dependency and enlargement on the first one written, and it has distorted all that they see. The Gospels and Acts need to be put in their proper perspective, so that they no longer obscure a more clear-eyed view of what early Christianity constituted. That view can be found in everything from the New Testament epistles to the non-canonical documents, to the writings of the Gnostics and second century apologists. Until we allow ourselves to recognise what broader factors of the era brought the idea of a Jesus into being, and how he evolved over the first 150 years, the Western world will continue to live and perpetuate a fantasy. . . Earl Doherty, through his website and first book, "The Jesus Puzzle" is regarded by many as having given Jesus Mythicism its most legitimate and convincing expression in over a generation. This is a new and revised expansion of that work. The product of almost three decades of study, it presents a case of unprecedented depth and lucidity for the non-existence of an historical Jesus. (The original "The Jesus Puzzle" will continue to be available as a condensed version of that case). In this age of the Internet and the increased dissemination of knowledge and ideas across a wide public constituency, the true beginnings of one of the world s major religions may finally be ready to emerge.

Book Jesus God Man Or Myth

Download or read book Jesus God Man Or Myth written by Herbert Cutner and published by Book Tree. This book was released on 2000 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did pagan mythologies represent Christs miracles in order to convince them to accept the Christian faith? Beyond these miracles is there enough evidence to prove there was a Jesus? Cutner says no. He also says that the Apostle Paul never portrayed Jesus as a man, but as a spiritual being. To Paul, Christ is found in a spiritual sense within oneself, as opposed to being an actual historical personage. When the Church accepted Paul, this inner reflection was outwardly projected by the Church into an actual mana saviour, according to Cutner. This might be why Paul was almost rejected by the Churchhis views posed a danger to those who might rely on their own spiritual knowledge, rather than the authority of the Church. Whether Jesus lived or not, we still have a lot to learn about ourselves and our true place in the universe. This book, although critical, may be useful in that respect.

Book The Eternal Mystery of Son of Man

Download or read book The Eternal Mystery of Son of Man written by Joe Arosh and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to unveil the hidden eternal mystery of the Son-of-Man, Jesus Christ, Yeshua the Messiah, ישוע המשיח. The Son-of-Man in Hebrew is "Ben HaAdam, בנ האדם" and in Greek is "Huios Anthropos, υἱός ἄνθρωπος." All believers of Yeshua the Messiah have a good understanding of His earthly ministry and His execution, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. To some extent, the believers understand His second coming and Messianic kingdom. However, we have a limited understanding of Messiah's Life and Nature in the Eternals, outside the time, space, and matter. In the four Gospels (Good Tidings, Besorah,בשורוה ), only Yeshua the Messiah called Himself the Son-of-Man but not others. Messiah called Himself the Son-of-Man 87 times; while, He called Himself the Son-of-God four times. The critical question: Why did Messiah call Himself the Son-of-Man? The most widely accepted answer to the question is that the Son-of-God Jesus Christ is born as a human in this world; therefore, He is known as the Son-of-Man. Is this the central reason why Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus Christ, called Himself the Son-of-Man? Yeshua the Messiah said, "Search the Scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me" (John 5:39). In Luke 24: 25-27, Messiah explained to His disciples concerning Himself from the Torah, Prophets, and Writings [Tanakh or Old Testament]. The secret things belong unto the LORD (YHWH, יהוה) our God (Elohim, אלוהימ): but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this Law (Torah, תורה) (Deut 29:29).Our following study of the Scriptures unveils the hidden mystery of why Yeshua the Messiah called Himself the Son-of-Man. When Messiah called Himself the Son-of-Man, He traveled into the Eternals and showed His divine relationship with His Father YHWH Elohim, and showed His Life and Nature in the Eternals spanning from the eternity past to the eternity future. In this book, the author presents research evidence from the Scriptures spanning from "before Genesis to after Revelation" to see and hear (Shema, שמע) the eternal aspects of Yeshua the Messiah outside the time, space, and matter. The author recommends that the readers should travel in spirit into the Eternals outside the time, space, and matter to see the eternal truth presented in this book. The author also suggests that believers should search out the eternal truth revealed in this book without any preconceived theological concept or doctrinal knowledge, but with spiritual revelation. Only then, the believers can behold and perceive the invisible divine relationship between the Messiah and His Father YHWH Elohim in the Eternals. The author trusts that the research findings from the Scripture presented in this book will inform, inspire, and encourage many believers to personally search the Scripture and find out the Life and Nature of our Messiah in the Eternals. A proper revelation of the Life and Nature of Messiah in the Eternals will transform our spiritual knowing of our beloved Messiah who lives in us and lives in the Eternals at the same time. This book uniquely covers the Son-of-Man Yeshua the Messiah, from eternity past to eternity future. Any believer or disciple of Yeshua the Messiah should read this book and start the journey through the Eternals.

Book excerpt: For those who truly desire a comprehensive understanding of the exigency of the incarnation, centrality of the cross and the sine qua non of the resurrection...This is a must read! Dr. Williams brilliantly weaves together orthodox theology with practical application resulting in a work meaty enough for the scholar yet digestible and building for the everyday church goer. -- Bishop Donald Clay, Petra International Ministries, Pittsburg, PA This book is an important contribution to the 21st century Christian community. It presents a strong unapologetic biblical methodical argument of The God Man, Jesus, based on Scripture with strong visual illustrations. As such, ministers and lay persons would greatly appreciate and benefit biblically and theologically in regards to the natures and function of The God Man. Therefore, I strongly encourage and recommend everyone to read this book which presents a clear succinct understanding of The God Man. Over the centuries the concept of the "God Man" has confused, intrigued and escaped the logic of theologians, preachers, and students. In his book "The God-Man", Elder J. D. Williams seeks to explain his concept through comprehensive exploration and exposition. Elder Williams has provided an excellent text that includes research, sermons and illustrations that are designed to enlighten the mind, while providing further dialogue among those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the term the "God-Man". --Rev. Download or read book How Jesus Became God written by Bart D. Ehrman and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author and Bible expert Bart Ehrman reveals how Jesus’s divinity became dogma in the first few centuries of the early church. The claim at the heart of the Christian faith is that Jesus of Nazareth was, and is, God. But this is not what the original disciples believed during Jesus’s lifetime—and it is not what Jesus claimed about himself. How Jesus Became God tells the story of an idea that shaped Christianity, and of the evolution of a belief that looked very different in the fourth century than it did in the first. A master explainer of Christian history, texts, and traditions, Ehrman reveals how an apocalyptic prophet from the backwaters of rural Galilee crucified for crimes against the state came to be thought of as equal with the one God Almighty, Creator of all things. But how did he move from being a Jewish prophet to being God? In a book that took eight years to research and write, Ehrman sketches Jesus’s transformation from a human prophet to the Son of God exalted to divine status at his resurrection. Only when some of Jesus’s followers had visions of him after his death—alive again—did anyone come to think that he, the prophet from Galilee, had become God. And what they meant by that was not at all what people mean today. Written for secular historians of religion and believers alike, How Jesus Became God will engage anyone interested in the historical developments that led to the affirmation at the heart of Christianity: Jesus was, and is, God.

Book excerpt: Did Jesus Really Exist? The search for the historical Jesus continues to be headline news. Any speculative theory seems to get instant attention as the debate rages about His real identity and the claims made in His name. Did Jesus really exist? Is there real historical evidence that demonstrates that He lived and actually said and did the things the Gospels record? Is there any validity to the speculative claims that the Jesus story was a myth, borrowed from a variety of pagan cultures of the ancient world? In this follow-up to the book God’s Not Dead (that inspired the movie), Man, Myth, Messiah looks at the evidence for the historical Jesus and exposes the notions of skeptics that Jesus was a contrived figure of ancient mythology. It also looks at the reliability of the Gospel records as well as the evidence for the resurrection that validates His identity as the promised Messiah. Man, Myth, Messiah will be released concurrent to the God’s Not Dead movie sequel, which will cover the same theme.
