Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A captivating collection unveiling the intricacies of love, life, and legacy These twelve stories, told from the viewpoint of young women in life’s mid-passage, explore the splendors and miseries of love, both carnal and spiritual, and cast back through sickness and health to the engraving experiences of childhood and forward to the rituals and release of death and its occasion for recall. They tell us of a dutiful but not guiltless daughter faced with the wreckage a father has made of his life, of the pain of trying to steer steadily through a doomed affair with a dearly loved married man, and of the ironies attending the funeral of a priest uncle and the birthday of an aged mother. From the outwardly unremarkable frame of a single day—on Fire Island or in New York—an entire life and an encompassment of humanity are movingly conveyed. Then, with inverted telescope, the most subjective of inner realms is explored—through a hospital stay, a sudden name change, or the surprising end of all those dreaded piano lessons. Taken together, these stories are a far greater whole than the sum of their remarkable parts, an unforgettable exploration of the paradoxical toughness and vulnerability that define the mortal condition.

While she is willing to give her life to this cause, is she willing to give her heart, a heart that was shattered in one of those horrific crimes, to a man sure to hurt her? Sean Reilly learned as a small child that love had no place in his life; that is, until he finds a friend in a damaged woman and becomes the father to a child that should not have lived. Book ROOTABAGA PIGEONS Another Children s Fantasy Adventure in Rootabaga Land

Download or read book ROOTABAGA PIGEONS Another Children s Fantasy Adventure in Rootabaga Land written by Carl August Sandburg and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Sandburg’s ROOTABAGA PIGEONS is the sequel to Rootabaga Stories. This ebook is a most wonderful, magical flight of imagination that could ever be put in a printed format. Wonderfully whimsical in the same genre of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”, and like Alice in Wonderland, this volume is not to be missed. The whimsical, and sometimes melancholy stories, which often use nonsense language, were originally created for the three Sandburg daughters. The girl’s nicknames were “Spink”, “Skabootch” and “Swipes.” Each name appears in both Rootabaga stories, and offered here in the Rootabaga Pigeons. The Rootabaga stories were born of Sandburg’s desire for American fairy tales to match American childhoods. He felt that the European stories involving royalty and knights were inappropriate in an American setting, and so set his stories in the fictionalized Rootabaga country-that closely resembles the American Midwest-a place filled with farms, trains, and corn fairies. A large number of the stories are told by the Potato Face Blind Man, an old minstrel from the “Village of Liver-and-Onions” who watches the world go by from in front of the local post office. Originally published in 1923, the second volume of Carl Sandburg's beloved Rootabaga Stories includes tales about "Big People Now" and "Little People Long Ago." The Pulitzer Prize-winning poet wrote these American fairy tales for his children while they were growing up in the American Midwest. This edition contains the illustrations of Maud and Miska Petersham. 10% of the profit from the sale of this ebook will be donated to charities. ================= KEYWORDS/TAGS: Rootabaga Pigeons, fantasy stories, children’s stories, children’s books, folklore, fairy tales, fantasy tales, fables, Balloons, Blind, Blixie blimp, blue, boomers, Bozo, brass, bugs, buttons, cats, clock, corn, corner, Dippy, gold, goose, gringo, Hatrack, Hoo, Horse, Huckabuck, Jonas, king, lumber, moon, morning, people, Peter, pigs, Pony, pop, Potato face, Puffs, queen, Rootabaga land, roses, shadow, silver, sky, snoox, summer, thousand, umbrella, Village, wild, wildcats, wind, Wisp, Yang, yellow, zig-zag, zoom, Spink, Skabootch, Swipes, wonderful, whimsical, carl sandburg, nonsense, childhood, minstrel, liver-and-onions, post office, big people, little people, Pulitzer, prize-winning, American fairy tales, Midwest,

Book The Gift of a Peaceful Death

Download or read book The Gift of a Peaceful Death written by Kathryn F. Weymouth PhD and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many times you will hear people say that they dont fear death but they do fear what they may have to endure before they reach that final passage. Relying on medical interventions and pharmaceuticals alone often does not bring the peaceful death that people hope for, but by integrating complementary and alternative methods with Western medicine the possibility of having that ease at the end is significantly heightened. In this book you will read accounts by practicing professionals on how and when they use complementary and alternative modalities with their patients and clients. You will read about the many uses of energy healing, including how a hospital chaplain uses it to ease the pain and fear of patients who are on a medical ventilator. You will read about nurses who use essential oils to induce relaxation, reduce pain, and eliminate nausea. The music therapist shares stories of how music can soothe, elevate mood, and bring families together at the end of life. You will see how simple massage techniques can reduce pain and stress and lower blood pressure, how acupuncture can ease symptoms and in one case restored a patients ability to breathe. With the probable exception of palliative care physicians, your medical provider may be prohibited from suggesting these be part of your treatment plan, but you, as the patient, or a family member, can ask for them. Creating an integrative treatment plan is consistent with the philosophy of hospice care: treat the whole person. The founder of the modern hospice movement, Dame Cicely Saunders, MD, saw the suffering of people with terminal illnesses who did not have adequate pain relief, who were lonely and isolated, and who felt spiritually bereft. This book shows how the complementary and alternative methods discussed fit perfectly within the model of holistic care and palliative medicine.
