Book Calorimetry In Particle Physics Proceedings Of The Tenth International Conference Calor02

Download or read book Calorimetry In Particle Physics Proceedings Of The Tenth International Conference Calor02 written by Ren-yuan Zhu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-01-16 with total page 921 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on Calorimetry in Particle Physics is the major forum for the state-of-the-art developments of calorimetry technologies. The Tenth Conference was attended by more than 150 physicists from 16 countries and covered all aspects of calorimetric particle detection and measurements, with emphasis on high energy physics and astrophysics experiments. The proceedings contain three parts: introductory papers, contributed papers and perspective papers. The introduction starts with a historical review of calorimetry developments, and continues with overviews of the current status of calorimetry in high energy physics and astrophysics, which are followed by discussions on calorimetry in future accelerator facilities, such as linear colliders and the Super B factories. A “hot” technology regarding the “energy flow concept” is also discussed. The contributed papers are organized in 11 sessions. The perspective papers summarize the physics and limitation of calorimeter applications in high energy physics, astrophysics and medical industries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major open questions in high energy physics and cosmology is the nature and origin of dark matter. Dark Matter in Astrophysics and Particle Physics 1998 provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of research in this topical field. The book brings together leading researchers from around the world to review recent progress and future directions for research in the different approaches to the dark matter problem. It collects results from cosmology, large-scale structure, and accelerator and nonaccelerator physics. The book also reviews the correlations between and the virtues of each of the fields for the determination of abundance, nature, and origin of dark matter.

The aim of the conference was to bring together experts with a common interest in the understanding and solving of problems on information modelling and knowledge bases, as well as those from different areas of computer science and other disciplines who apply the results of research to practice. The 39 accepted papers collected here cover a variety of topics, including: conceptual modeling; knowledge and information modeling and discovery; linguistic modeling; cross-cultural communication and social computing; multimedia data modeling and systems; and environmental modeling and engineering. The book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners alike, and to anyone wanting a better understanding of current advances in information technology.

Book Topics In Mathematical Physics General Relativity And Cosmology In Honor Of Jerzy Plebanski Proceedings Of 2002 International Conference

Download or read book Topics In Mathematical Physics General Relativity And Cosmology In Honor Of Jerzy Plebanski Proceedings Of 2002 International Conference written by Bogdan Mielnik and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-08-10 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of modern science's most famous and controversial figures, Jerzy Plebanski was an outstanding theoretical physicist and an author of many intriguing discoveries in general relativity and quantum theory. Known for his exceptional analytic talents, explosive character, inexhaustible energy, and bohemian nights with brandy, coffee, and enormous amounts of cigarettes, he was dedicated to both science and art, producing innumerable handwritten articles — resembling monk's calligraphy — as well as a collection of oil paintings. As a collaborator but also an antagonist of Leopold Infeld's (a coauthor of Albert Einstein's), Plebanski is recognized for designing the “heavenly” and “hyper-heavenly” equations, for introducing new variables to describe the gravitational field, for the exact solutions in Einstein's gravity and in quantum theory, for his classification of the tensor of matter, for some outstanding results in nonlinear electrodynamics, and for analyzing general relativity with continuous sources long before Chandrasekhar et al.A tribute to Plebański's contributions and the variety of his interests, this is a unique and wide-ranging collection of invited papers, covering gravity quantization, strings, branes, supersymmetry, ideas on the deformation quantization, and lesser known results on the continuous Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff problem.

Book A Brief History of String Theory

Download or read book A Brief History of String Theory written by Dean Rickles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-02-18 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During its forty year lifespan, string theory has always had the power to divide, being called both a 'theory of everything' and a 'theory of nothing'. Critics have even questioned whether it qualifies as a scientific theory at all. This book adopts an objective stance, standing back from the question of the truth or falsity of string theory and instead focusing on how it came to be and how it came to occupy its present position in physics. An unexpectedly rich history is revealed, with deep connections to our most well-established physical theories. Fully self-contained and written in a lively fashion, the book will appeal to a wide variety of readers from novice to specialist.

Book String Theory Research Progress

Download or read book String Theory Research Progress written by Ferenc N. Balogh and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: String theory is a model of fundamental physics whose building blocks are one-dimensional extended objects called strings, rather than the zero-dimensional point particles that form the basis for the standard model of particle physics. The phrase is often used as shorthand for Superstring theory, as well as related theories such as M-theory. By replacing the point-like particles with strings, an apparently consistent quantum theory of gravity emerges. Moreover, it may be possible to 'unify' the known natural forces (gravitational, electromagnetic, weak nuclear and strong nuclear) by describing them with the same set of equations. Studies of string theory have revealed that it predicts higher-dimensional objects called branes. String theory strongly suggests the existence of ten or eleven (in M-theory) space-time dimensions, as opposed to the usual four (three spatial and one temporal) used in relativity theory.
