He draws upon a rich background in art, design, and travel to focus on the unique qualities of the midwesten landscape, exhibiting an unusual sensitivity to composition, color, texture, and light. This book was released on 2024-09-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents Kaldahl's experimental work in clay sculpture. His compositions and materializations are the result of intuitive improvisations and a direct yet subtle response to material and spatial qualities. Kaldahl has worked with a myriad of spatial themes and ornaments that frequently reappear in his formal vocabulary, and which arise out of a methodical, gradual, and experimental process. This catalogue includes an introductory essay by Brooklyn-based curator, writer, and historian Glenn Adamson. Copenhagen-based writer and curator Jorunn Veiteberg draws connections to contemporary and historical developments with ceramic practices in fine art and craft. Further, Kaldahl's own voice is present in the publication in a number of highly engaging statements. MARTIN BODILSEN KALDAHL (*1954) is a ceramic artist based in Copenhagen and has been exhibiting and curating for thirty-five years in Los Angeles, New York, Amsterdam, Saint Petersburg, Milan, Munich, Brussels, Paris, Berlin, London, Oslo, and Copenhagen.
Download or read book Letterscapes written by Anna Saccani and published by Thames and Hudson. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first global survey of typographic art installations in public spaces We are bombarded with words today. Public spaces are saturated with a discordant mix of messages, but sometimes a sentence, a word, or even an individual letter stops us in our tracks. LetterScapes features thirty-seven typographic installations in public spaces that demand attention with their graphic impact and communicative power. The installations can be found throughout the world, from the United States to Europe to Asia. Created in a variety of materials, they vary from huge signs on roofs to a stream of consciousness embedded in a road to structures that appear to be functional or decorative, but are in fact made up of letters of the alphabet. The book features projects by artists and designers including Joan Brossa, Maya Lin, Lawrence Weiner, Pentagram, and Paula Scher. Interviews provide insight into why the artists chose words over images to transmit the message, how the locations were chosen, how materials and typefaces were selected, and how each work connects with its “landscape.” Specially drawn maps show the locations for all those interested in discovering this unique kind of public art for themselves.
Download or read book Sonoran Ruminations written by Gerald R. Stanek and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-05-15 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short story collection set in the desert southwest features spiritual themes. What do terracotta suns have to do with racism? Is a little bliss worse than no bliss at all? Who is The Alchemist, the one turning things to gold, the one concocting elixirs, or the one seeking immortality? Soon the road was little more than a path, winding like a snake through the creosote, century plants and desert spoons. I walked on for a while, my footsteps the only noise. It must have been over 100o out there, but it didn't seem to bother me much. There was no wind. I stopped and stood still, listening to the sun seep into the sandy soil, watching the occasional bird glide silently over the empty land, then I turned around. I never did find Peter, but by the time I got back to the truck, my head was all full of knowing. - - Amazon.

Download or read book Policy Brief Nordic ecosystem services written by Kristin Magnussen and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature provides us with a multitude of goods like food and fiber, drinking water, protection against floods and storms, carbon storage and recreational services like swimming and bird watching. Our welfare and well-being depend on these goods and services – often called ecosystem services, defined as “the benefit people directly and indirectly obtain from nature”. We often distinguish between four categories of ecosystem services; supporting, provisioning, regulating and cultural ecosystem services. This report aims to sum up and show some examples of the results of the ecosystem services projects carried out for NCM. It illustrates which ecosystem services we receive from Nordic nature and the importance of these. It also shows examples of how the ecosystem services approach has been and can be used in management of nature in the Nordic countries, and to point out some knowledge gaps.
