Book X Ray MegaVolt Digital Imaging Inspection System

Download or read book X Ray MegaVolt Digital Imaging Inspection System written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Report developed under SBIR contract for topic A04-022." The X-ray Imaging Module (XIM) is a compact, efficient, inexpensive imager component that can be ganged with other XIMs to produce very high spatial resolution seamless images over very large areas, over 2 meters in a single dimension, if necessary. XIM provides fast, deep-dynamic range, low-noise calibrated digital readouts at a user- selectable/motion- coordinated rate, enabling virtually all reconstructive imaging applications, such as CT, TDI, and laminography at energies of 2 MeV. In phase 1, we built and tested a single prototype XIM unit at 2 MeV using the high energy x-ray source available at the Picatinny Arsenal. We proved a stitching approach that allows the construction of a single seamless very large image from multiple, smaller, slightly-overlapping images. We provided a multi-XIM unit that can image a region as large as 12 x 48 or 20 x 24 inches at high spatial resolution. A one-dimensional grid scatter- rejection scheme that will eventually reduce scattering at high energies was tested. In phase II, Skiametrics will build provide an erector-set multi-configuration 4-XIM unit, allowing very large areas, e.g., 12 x 48 inches or 20 x 24 inches, to be imaged at very high spatial resolution.

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 2462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings, consisting of Parts A and B, contain the edited versions of most of the papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation held at Snowmass Village, Colorado, on July 31 to August 4, 1994. The Review was organized by the Center for NDE at Iowa State University, in cooperation with the Ames Laboratory of the US DOE, the Materials Directorate of the Wright Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the American Society of Nondestructive Testing, the Department of Energy, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers, and the Working Group in Quantitative NDE. This year's Review of Progress in QNDE was attended by approximately 450 participants from the U.S. and many foreign countries who presented over 360 papers. The meeting was divided into 36 sessions, with as many as four sessions running concurrently. The Review covered all phases of NDE research and development from fundamental investigations to engineering applications or inspection systems, and it included many important methods of inspection science from acoustics to x-rays. In the last eight to ten years, the Review has stabilized at about its current size, which most participants seem to agree is large enough to permit a full-scale overview of the latest developments, but still small enough to retain the collegial atmosphere which has marked the Review since its inception.

Book Handbook on Radiation Probing Gauging Imaging and Analysis

Download or read book Handbook on Radiation Probing Gauging Imaging and Analysis written by E.M. Hussein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-05 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for this book arose from my teaching, engineering, and - search experience in the non-power aspects of nuclear technology. The lack of a comprehensive textbook in industrial applications of radiation frustrated my students, who had to resort to a multitude of textbooks and research publications to familiarize themselves with the fundam- tal and practical aspects of radiation technology. As an engineer, I had to acquire the design aspects of radiation devices by trial-and-error, and often by accidental reading of a precious publication. As a researcher and a supervisor of graduate students, I found that the needed literature was either hard to find, or too scattered and diverse. More than once, I discovered that what appeared to be an exciting new idea was an old concept that was tried a few decades earlier during the golden era of “Atom for Peace”. I am hoping, therefore, that this book will serve as a single comprehensive reference source in a growing field that I expect will continue to expand. This book is directed to both neophytes and experts, and is written to combine the old and the new, the basic and the advanced, the simple and the complex. It is anticipated that this book will be of help in - viving older concepts, improving and expanding existing techniques and promoting the development of new ones.

Book New Techniques Provide Low cost X ray Inspection of Highly Attenuating Materials

Download or read book New Techniques Provide Low cost X ray Inspection of Highly Attenuating Materials written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of an arms reduction treaty between the United States and the Russian Federation, both countries will each be storing over 40,000 containers of plutonium. To help detect any deterioration of the containers and prevent leakage, the authors are designing a digital radiography and computed tomography system capable of handling this volume reliably, efficiently, and at a lower cost. The materials to be stored have very high x-ray attenuations, and, in the past, were inspected using 1- to 24-MV x-ray sources. This inspection system, however, uses a new scintillating (Lockheed) glass and an integrating CCD camera. Preliminary experiments show that this will permit the use of a 450-kV x-ray source. This low-energy system will cost much less than others designed to use a higher-energy x-ray source because it will require a less expensive source, less shielding, and less floor space. Furthermore, they can achieve a tenfold improvement in spatial resolution by using their knowledge of the point-spread function of the x-ray imaging system and a least-squares fitting technique.
