Book Vascular Anatomy of the Spinal Cord

Download or read book Vascular Anatomy of the Spinal Cord written by Armin K. Thron and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this treatise on the radiological anatomy of superficial and deep spinal cord vasculature evolved from daily routine neuroradiological work. This was also the reason for subdividing the monograph into a postmortem anatomical and a clinical part. The actual importance of a clear conception of radio anatomic fundamentals was made clear by many clinical conferences with neurologists, neurosurgeons and orthopedists, where a lack of knowledge about medullary syndromes of suspected vascular origin became evident. Also among neuroradiologists there is still widespread uncertainty in the interpretation of myelograms and angiographies in such cases. A study of the spinal cord's angioarchitecture is all the more justified and necessary considering the vast number of descriptions of cerebro vascular anatomy and pathology. The clinical challenge posed by patients suffering from partial or complete transverse spinal lesions has grown due to new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Myelography using water-soluble contrast media, X-ray computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and spinal angiography today allow and require both earlier and topographically and pathogenetically more exact classification of diseases of the spinal cord and its surrounding structures. Due to progress in microneurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology, even intramedullary lesions have become more and more accessible and treatable. Therefore this monograph mainly addresses those concerned with invasive therapeutic techniques and who are familiar with the interpretation of radio anatomic findings. A comprehensive description of medullary vascular syndromes would be beyond the scope of this treatise.

Book excerpt: X-Ray Anatomy describes as well as illustrates the elementary and advanced radiological anatomy. This book presents the radiograph of the various parts of the human body, including the head, neck, upper limb, lower limb, abdomen, thorax, and the vertebral column. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the four classical methods of inspection, percussion, palpation, and auscultation. This text then describes the structure of the human skeleton, including its physical properties and its appearance in the radiograph. Other chapters consider the surface contours and skeletal landmarks of the shoulder and arm. This book discusses as well the condition of spina bifida, which is accompanied by anomalies of the spinal cord. The final chapter deals with several diagrams showing the radiographs of the larynx, the skull, as well as the ventricular system of the brain. This book is a valuable resource for radiologists, physicians, surgeons, and internists.

Book The X Ray Atlas of the Systemic Arteries of the Body

Download or read book The X Ray Atlas of the Systemic Arteries of the Body written by H. C. Orrin and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-05-06 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of this atlas while engaged at a military hospital as civil surgeon felt the need of plates which would depict the distribution and relationship of the arteries of the body as revealed by the aid of X-rays. The excellent plates published in this atlas were prepared by the author to meet this need. With one exception all of them are taken from a very successfully infected full-time fetus. The atlas has been prepared for the use of students of anatomy, surgical anatomy and operative surgery, but one would also commend it to the notice of teachers and investigators for some of the plates bring out certain facts -- particularly in the course and distribution of abdominal arteries -- which are worthy of further study. A useful series of stereoscopic radiographs are added at the end which should prove very serviceable. The price seems to us extremely moderate. --Journal of Anatomy, Vol. 55

Book Radiologic Anatomy of the Brain

Download or read book Radiologic Anatomy of the Brain written by Georges Salamon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite all recent advances, the most important progress in neuroradiol ogy has been in our knowledge of the anatomy of the nervous system. DANDY'S injection of ventricles and cisterns with air, SICARD'S studies of the epidural and subarachoid space with lipiodol, MONIZ'S work on cerebral arteries and veins, and, more recently, DJINDJIAN'S and DI CHIRO'S investiga tions of spinal arteries, have modified, refined and expanded current knowl edge of anatomy of the central nervous system. As described by LINDGREN, "the neuroradiologist dissects the region of interest with x-rays like a surgeon with a scalpel". In fact, neuroradiologic examination is nothing less than an anatomic survey in vivo, using multiple orthogonal projections. The authors of this book are convinced that frequent reference to normal anatomy is currently the most useful and rewarding means of understanding neuroradiologic problems. Arteries and veins of the brain may be considered in terms of the sulci, gyri, cisterns, ventricles, basal nuclei, and cortical centers. In this book, efforts have been made to match anatomic elements of the ventricles, cisterns, and vessels to the region being studied. The foundation of this book lies in the detailed anatomico-radiologic corre lations, demonstrated by numerous photographs of dissected specimens, radiographs of injected specimens, anatomic drawings, diagrams, and normal cerebral angiograms and encephalograms. Indeed, there is no region in the central nervous system which cannot be delineated by its relationships with arteries, veins, cisterns, and ventricles.
