Book Interreligious Theology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ephraim Meir
  • Publisher : Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
  • Release : 2015-08-17
  • ISBN : 3110430517
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book Interreligious Theology written by Ephraim Meir and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first greater attempt to construct a dialogical theology from a Jewish point of view. It contributes to an emerging new theology that promotes the interrelatedness of religions in which encounter, openness, hospitality and permanent learning are central. The monograph is about the self and the other, inner and outer, own and strange; about borders and crossing borders, and about the sublime activities of passing and translating. Meir analyses and critically discusses the writings of great contemporary Jewish dialogical thinkers and argues that the values of interreligious theology are moored in their thoughts. In his view interreligious dialogue supposes attentive listening, humility, a critical attitude towards oneself and others, a good amount of self-relativism and humor. It is about proximity, dialogical reading, engagement and interconnectedness.

Book Inconsistencies in Greek and Roman Religion Volume 1 Ter Unus Isis Dionysos Hermes Three Studies in Henotheism

Download or read book Inconsistencies in Greek and Roman Religion Volume 1 Ter Unus Isis Dionysos Hermes Three Studies in Henotheism written by Henk Versnel and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of a two-volume collection of studies in inconsistencies in Greek and Roman religion. Their common aim is to argue for the historical relevance of various types of ambiguity and dissonance. The first volume focuses on the central paradoxes in ancient henotheism. The term 'henotheism' -- a modern formation after the stereotyped acclamation: #EIS O QEOS# ("one is the god"), common to early Christianity and contemporaneous paganism -- denotes the specific devotion to one particular god without denying the existence of, or even cultic attention to, other gods. After its prime in the twenties and thirties of this century the term fell into disuse. Nonetheless, the notion of henotheism represents one of the most remarkable and significant shifts in Graeco-Roman religion and hence deserves fresh reconsideration.

Book Christianity Through Jewish Eyes

Download or read book Christianity Through Jewish Eyes written by Walter Jacob and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a historical and critical study of the most significant modern Jewish thinkers on Christianity. The writings of more than a score of leading modern Jewish philosophers and theologians from Moses Mendelssohn to Emil Fackenheim are carefully analyzed. Although Judaism and Christianity have existed side by side for nineteen centuries, the Judeo-Christian dialogue is a phenomenon of the last two centuries. During much of the earlier period, polemic was the only acknowledgement of co-existence. Both Judaism and Christianity have moved hesitatingly toward dialogue, and this volume tries to trace those steps. The book has been selective, and many writers of monographs have been omitted as it concerns itself with those thinkers who have made major contributions to a new understanding of Christianity. In an effort to have the authors speak for themselves, quotations have been extensively used. Much of the material has been made available to the American reader for the first time, as the original sources in German, French, or Italian remain largely untranslated.

(6) Columns for Discount on Purchases and Discount on Notes on the same side of the Cash Book; (c) Columns for Discount on Sales and Cash Sales on the debit side of the Cash Book; (d) Departmental columns in the Sales Book and in the Purchase Book. Controlling Accounts.--The addition of special columns in books of original entry makes possible the keeping of Controlling Accounts. The most common examples of such accounts are Accounts Receivable account and Accounts Payable account. These summary accounts, respectively, displace individual customers' and creditors' accounts in the Ledger. The customers' accounts are then segregated in another book called the Sales Ledger or Customers' Ledger, while the creditors' accounts are kept in the Purchase or Creditors' Ledger. The original Ledger, now much reduced in size, is called the General Ledger. The Trial Balance now refers to the accounts in the General Ledger. It is evident that the task of taking a Trial Balance is greatly simplified because so many fewer accounts are involved. A Schedule of Accounts Receivable is then prepared, consisting of the balances found in the Sales Ledger, and its total must agree with the balance of the Accounts Receivable account shown in the Trial Balance. A similar Schedule of Accounts Payable, made up of all the balances in the Purchase Ledger, is prepared, and it must agree with the balance of the Accounts Payable account of the General Ledger." The Balance Sheet.--In the more elementary part of the text, the student learned how to prepare a Statement of Assets and Liabilities for the purpose of disclosing the net capital of an enterprise. In the present chapter he was shown how to prepare a similar statement, the Balance Sheet. For all practical...
