It is a balm to the daily pressures of life; it allows the writer to imagine: What If? After what if, comes the story, another world, and a way to make sense of life, death, nature, and the power of what it means to be human. This anthology explores those questions through the lyrical genres of poetry and prose. Words are transformed into worlds, characters boldly walk out from the pages of the imagination, and you forget you are reading a book. Book Changing Faces

Download or read book Changing Faces written by Darrel Dabbs and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I came into this world Sean John Marshall. I am twenty-seven years old, and was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I am a fine artist, author, a proud father of one beautiful baby girl, and an all-around entrepreneur. But all of my pursuits came to an abrupt halt when I was consumed by a life of crime. For so long I became a part of a problem. Growing up in and around the streets, Ive caused much destruction in my lifetime. Ive been a part of gang violence, sold drugs, and was involved in countless thefts and armed robberies. Now my life's focus is to inspire, teach, uplift and mend. I now use life's experiences to grow and learn. I feel obligated to pass on all the insight and knowledge I've obtained throughout the years to whoever I can. By doing so, people can learn from my mistakes and use me as an example, because I've seen darker truths that people need not witness themselves. I've walked rocky paths on which those can only stumble. And if by sharing my views on paper and pouring my heart out through a pen can inspire or save just one life, if by writing I can prevent someone from making some of the same mistakes I've made, I will have done my part. I will have at least saved one soul from having to suffer the afflictions I've faced. And for that reason alone, I write. And for that reason alone, I'll forever share my truths"--Colophon.

Book Mindessence The Polarity of Life and Death

Download or read book Mindessence The Polarity of Life and Death written by Tony Caves and published by MWI Publishing. This book was released on 2010-07-19 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mindessence contains ideas and methods to deepen our understanding of life and death and bring us to a realisation of our true nature. To the author, the idea that some of us are somehow 'sane' and some 'insane, ' is false, he believes we are all absolutely sane - it is just a matter of degree. What Society calls 'mental illness' Tony Caves calls Perplexity. Transparency is the name he gives to a state of freedom from Perplexity. Transparency gives us space in which to experience Mindessence which is a state of dynamic ease and relaxed alertness beyond ordinary notions of sanity. The book explores the ways in which we are conditioned by society, through our upbringing and education, to live and die in a dream world of our own making. It then explores methods for de-conditioning ourselves through simple techniques, such as the use of static and moving Meditation, to help us become aware of our vast and timeless Heartmind and to plant the seeds of Transparency which then flower into Mindessence.

Book Planting Letters and Weaving Lines

Download or read book Planting Letters and Weaving Lines written by Jonathan Homrighausen and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2022-11-17 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The illuminations of The Saint John’s Bible have delighted many with their imaginative takes on Scripture. But many struggle to appreciate the calligraphy more deeply than merely noting its beauty. Does calligraphy mean something? How is it beautiful? This book, written by a biblical scholar who has spent years working with this Bible, shows how calligraphic art powerfully interplays visual form, textual content, and creative process. Homrighausen proposes five lenses for this art form: gardens, weaving, pilgrimage, touching, and enfleshing words. Each of these lenses springs from the poetry of the Song of Songs, its illuminations in The Saint John’s Bible, and medieval ways of understanding the scribe’s craft. While these metaphors for calligraphic art draw from this particular illuminated Bible, this book is aimed at all lovers of calligraphy, art, and sacred text.

Book The Birth to Presence

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jean-Luc Nancy
  • Publisher : Stanford University Press
  • Release : 1993
  • ISBN : 9780804721899
  • Pages : 444 pages

Download or read book The Birth to Presence written by Jean-Luc Nancy and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The epoch of representation is as old as the West. Indeed, representation is the West, understood as what at once designates and expands its own limits. But what comes after the West? What comes after representation's disclosure of its own limit? The central problem posed in these essays, collected from over a decade of work, is how in the wake of Western ontologies to conceive the coming, the birth that characterizes being. We are now at the limit of representation, where objects as we experience them have been show to be merely objects of representation--or rather, of presentation, since there is nothing to (re)present. The first part of this book, "Existence," asks how, today, one can give sense of meaning to existence as such, arguing that existence itself, as it comes nude into the world, must now be our "sense." In examining what this birth to presence might be, we should not ask what presence "is"; rather we should conceive presence as presence to someone, including to presence itself. This birth is not the constitution of an identity, but the endless departure of an identity from, and from within, its other, or others. Its coming is not desire but jouissance, the joy of averring oneself to be continually in the state of being born--a rejoicing of birth, a birth of rejoicing. The second section, "Poetry," asks: What art exposes this? In writing, in the voice, in painting? And what if art is exposed to it? How does it inscribe (or rather, "exscribe," in a term the book develops) the coming existence as such? The author's trajectory in this book crosses those of Hegel, Schlegel, Baudelaire, Nietzsche, Freud, and Heidegger, in their comments on art and politics, existence and corporeality, everyday life and its modes of existence and ecstasy. An analysis that dares this crossing involves all the varied accounts of existence, political as well as philosophical, and all the realms of poverty.
