On October 3, 2005, Kapacziewski and his soldiers were coming to the end of their tour in Northern Iraq when their convoy was attacked by enemy fighters. A grenade fell through the gunner's hatch and exploded, shattering Kapacziewski's right leg below the knee, damaging his right hip, and severing a nerve and artery in his right arm. The task of determining the role of the Rangers as the state evolved and what they actually accomplished for the benefit of the state is a difficult challenge. The actions of the Rangers fit no easy description. There is a dark side to the story of the Rangers; during the Mexican Revolution, for example, some murdered with impunity. Others sought to restore order in the border communities as well as in the remainder of Texas. It is not lack of interest that complicates the unveiling of the mythical force. With the possible exception of the Alamo, probably more has been written about the Texas Rangers than any other aspect of Texas history. I will never do anything stupid because "they" or "regulations" require it to be so. I will find a way to accomplish my mission and serve the Rangers of this Regiment. 8. I will always remember that everything I use is paid for by US citizens. I will remember those tax dollars are collected from the American people and given to the Rangers because those people believe that in exchange for that money they will be kept safe from the tyrants of the world. 9. I will never forget that this is an Infantry unit supported by a medical team; not a medical team supported by a plethora of Infantry. 10. I will never forget that when the tyrants of the earth look towards the USA and plot mischief, they see a wall of cold steel backed up by determined men wearing Tan Berets; and then they plot their mischief somewhere else.
