If so, those that gather in the middle of a potato field in a small Baptist chapel in Tenthill in rural Queensland, Australia have had a lot of life interfere with their plans. They have had to deal with whatever nature, circumstances, and the Lord himself seems to hurl at them. These are real sermons addressed to real people to address real situations. The messages touched hearts when they were preached, and you should find them refreshing and encouraging as you deal with life and your plans for the future. The subjects could not be more diverse, including drought; untimely death; the temple of Artemis in Ephesus; appointing pastors, elders, and deacons; and the author’s love of colorful shirts. Yet all speak of the gospel of the love, faithfulness, and forgiveness of Jesus. There will be messages you love inside. They are different from any preaching you are used to.

This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Norman L. Geisler has been called the "father of evangelical Christian philosophy." He has written more than one hundred books and taught at universities and top seminaries for some fifty-six years. He was the first president of the Evangelical Philosophical Society and the founder and first president of the International Society of Christian Apologetics. He has spoken or debated in more than two dozen countries and held pastoral/pulpit ministries in four states. Many view him as a cross between Thomas Aquinas and Billy Graham. No one has done more to communicate the modern challenges of the Faith to the "average" Christian, to the church, and to the academy. This volume offers creative and constructive essays from twenty-three contributors, all notable in their own right, who preserve and propagate Dr. Geisler's ideas and express appreciation for his influence. Those who know him best say he is "true, faithful, and blessed by God!"

Download or read book Enduring Truth written by Aaron E. Lavender and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enduring Truth argues that faithfulness to Scripture is the solution to a “crisis” among African American preaching. Though misinterpreting God’s Word is not restricted to one race or culture, author Aaron Lavender identifies three factors that have precipitated the decline of black preaching specifically: racial segregation, black liberation theology, and prosperity theology. The book’s first chapter recounts the history of the crisis, noting how discrimination in theological education led black ministers to liberal colleges and seminaries that prophetically confronted Jim Crow but taught the social gospel and other forms of theological error. Such schools ultimately were harmful to the spiritual health of black churches. Subsequent chapters discuss the role of biblical exegesis in preaching, develop a theology of preaching, and suggest preaching methods for the postmodern world. Every biblical text has one meaning, according to Lavender. The preacher’s job is to determine and communicate that meaning, then show its relevance in the cultural context of his hearers. Proof-texting and relativism, Lavender writes, are two great enemies of biblical preaching. While focused on the African American context, this volume addresses topics relevant to all preachers. Enduring Truth is suited both for ministry practitioners and preaching courses. It will help readers elevate the Word of God over the worldly allures of any ministry setting.

Book excerpt: How does one preach from the Old Testament? What are the particular needs and challenges of preaching the Good Friday, and then the Easter, sermon? What does one do when he or she wants to address contemporary events? Paul Scott Wilson has long been one of the most significant writers among those who seek a richer and more complete understanding of what preaching is, and how it might be made better. He draws on his broad and deep work in homiletics to show preachers how to craft a variety of types of sermons. Recognizing that all sermons are in some ways broken words, Wilson includes in each chapter an illustrative sermon. Either kind of sermon--the good or the bad--can offer ample opportunities to learn how to be a more effective and faithful preacher of the gospel.

Book Hidden Enemies in the Ministry

Download or read book Hidden Enemies in the Ministry written by Pastor Ron Keller MA and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-04-26 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian ministry can be so complicated that no pastor is totally prepared for what is about to hit them. There are situations that arise one never anticipates. Pastor Keller believes he has faced them all, and he shares them in his book on Hidden Enemies in the Ministry. Keller has had to lock horns over legalism, face a charismatic invasion that split his church, be fired for doing what he said he would do when he was hired, deal with witchcraft and the occult within his own congregation, have an outside pastor try to steal his ministry, ignorantly allow liberalism to get a foot in the door, be accused of immoral behavior, and worst of all, try to minister when his wife was dying of cancer. Keller tells how he dealt with all these situations and does so with other pastors in mind as his desire is to share his lifetime experiences, so others do not fall into the same traps. Keller is also concerned about the "the silent pulpit" and the fear of pastors to preach the whole council of God, and that includes the moral-political issues that are destroying our nation--issues like abortion, critical race theory, the social justice movement. Too many pastors are too politically correct in their preaching that their compassion for their flock is more important than telling the truth. It has been said of those who have read this book that it ought to be required reading in the practicum department of every Bible college in America. Experience gives one far more wisdom for ministry than what is learned in seminary. It is my hope and prayer that Hidden Enemies in the Ministry will better equip you to be a more successful servant of Christ in fulfilling His calling on your life.

Book excerpt: The author of this book shares a bonding trip taken with his life time friend Michael, and their two fathers Jarone and Richard in 2004. The four traveled to Africa and Europe and the experience inspired Roderick to write this book. Roderick accurately takes the reader “Full Circle” through a journey of Africa's history from the time she was the envy of the world, through her dark era of slavery and colonialism, to her return as the most important continent in the world during the 21st century. He makes a compelling case how every industrialized nation will become dependent on the natural resources of the continent to sustain their economies in the 22nd century. Full Circle is a powerful and controversial book that takes on a range of social, political, racial, and religious issues. Roderick not only highlights the concerns he has with today's educational systems, politics, and religions; he gives the reader his opinion and solutions for these perils. Throughout “Full circle” Roderick confronts the American media for the negative image it has portrayed of Africa for centuries. He goes on to identify the effects on the psyche of African Americans being indoctrinated with negativity about the continent of their origin and the false sense of inferiority by Europeans derived from the same propaganda. Roderick makes his best effort to encourage African Americans to embrace their African heritage in preparation for the reawakening of the continent. He provides an undeniable case for Africa becoming the world's next “Super Power” in the 22nd century, with out firing a shot.

Book excerpt: In Awakening, a black immigrant shares his compelling ideas about the current situation facing African Americans, initiating an impassioned discussion about slavery, civil rights, and African American structure in this country. African Americans today face many challenging issues such as absentee dads, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, drugs, black-on-black crime, and the exploding jail population; many blame black people for impeding their own progress. According to Devon Skinner, who immigrated to America when he was nineteen, black people have not failed themselves, but instead have become victims of liberalism. It's liberal policies that promises change but delivers more of the same. If the cure never solves the problem then something is wrong with the cure, not the patient. Skinner provides insight into the ways we can change these circumstances while presenting an overview of literature relating to the black experience and sharing examples from his own life. He delves into controversial issues such as racism, the treatment of slaves, and the definition of welfare all while offering encouragement to African Americans to respond to the humanitarian needs of the world. In today's culture, many blacks continue their struggle for power and respect. Awakening educates and informs African Americans of the great opportunities that lie before them while providing the motivation to walk into the future with not only a different perspective, but most importantly, a purpose.

To own one is to possess the best car in the world--the dream of every car enthusiast.
