Book Working Capital Performance of Corporate India

Download or read book Working Capital Performance of Corporate India written by Manoj Anand and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper attempts to develop quantitative benchmarks at the firm and the industry level, so as to evaluate the working capital management performance of Corporate India from time to time. An earlier attempt was made by Anand (2001) based on the methodology designed by the CFO Europe and REL Consultancy Group for the year 1996-97. In another attempt, Anand and Gupta (2003) experimented with a number of parameters and different weights in the overall score to have a better picture of working capital management performance of Corporate India. The study employs the methodology developed by Anand and Gupta (2003) and provides estimates by using the data of 339 Samp;P CNX 500 nonfinancial companies with at least three years of publicly available records over the period 2001-02 to 2003-04 for each company and industry. During the period of study, Corporate India has achieved a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 26.3% in net sales and 1.6% in the three-year average cash operating margins. The length of the operating cycle and cash conversion cycle has reduced by 10.2% and 12.7% respectively on compounded annual basis. The paper finds very little evidence on the positive relationship between working capital management and firm profitability. The findings of the paper capture the dynamics of risk-return trade-off, which will help the performance evaluation of working capital management of Corporate India.

Book WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT

Download or read book WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT written by HRISHIKES BHATTACHARYA and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2014-01-17 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working capital is commonly understood as the fund needed to meet the day-to-day expenses of an enterprise. A finance manager finds that the funds for meeting these expenses get blocked in current assets. He therefore, looks for liquidity support in net working capital (NWC), which is equivalent to the excess of current assets over current liabilities. A banker also looks at the size of NWC as the long-term stake of the business in funding the current assets. But for a production manager, liquidity is synonymous to uninterrupted supply of material inputs to the production lines. Similarly for a marketing manager, if there is no production, his marketing outlets dry up despite demand in the market. While the finance manager discourages overstocking of inventory, the production manager and the marketing manager dread of being out of stock. In this conflict the goal of the organization often takes a back seat. This book aims at resolving these conflicts by adopting a techno-financial approach to working capital management. In the Third Edition a full chapter on Service Business: Risk Analysis and Working Capital Assessment has been incorporated, which is devoted to understand the nature of service business and the risks associated with it. It is followed by developing a model for assessment of working capital requirement of a service enterprise. Besides, the book is revised and updated extensively by incorporating the current researches in the field; particular mention can be made of Cash Pooling system, Bullwhip effect and newer approaches to inventory recording system. Throughout the book, every concept is presented with worked-out examples and case studies for easy comprehension of the subject. The book is primarily addressed to postgraduate students majoring in Finance and to those pursuing professional courses in Accounts (CA) and Cost Accounting (ICWA). The book will also be very useful to practising finance managers as well as to purchase/materials managers.

Book Working Capital Structure and Liquidity Analysis

Download or read book Working Capital Structure and Liquidity Analysis written by CMA(Dr.) Ashok Panigrahi and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquidity plays a significant role in the successful functioning of a business firm. A firm should ensure that it does not suffer from lack-of or excess liquidity to meet its short-term compulsions. A study of liquidity is of major importance to both the internal and the external analysts because of its close relationship with day-to-day operations of a business. The crucial part in managing working capital is required maintaining its liquidity in day-to-day operation to ensure its smooth running and meets its obligation.Hence, it is of utmost important to keep a constant eye on liquidity position of the company as without it the company cannot survive. In this paper a comparative study on the liquidity position of five leading Indian pharmaceutical companies has been done to know the liquidity position of the companies. The study covers a period of 10 years viz, 2005-2006 to 2014-2015. For the purpose of investigation purely secondary data is used. The techniques of mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, ratio analysis, and Motaal's ultimate rank test has been applied to analyze the data. It has been found that the liquidity position of small companies is better as compared to big ones. Moreover, low or negative working capital in some cases indicates the aggressive working capital management policy of the firms which implies minimal investment in current assets by the companies so as to derive a higher rate of return. But it has to be remembered that risk of default and bankruptcy increases when a firm adopts more aggressive working capital policies. One should remember that a negative working capital is a sign of managerial efficiency in a business with low inventory and accounts receivable (which means they operate on an almost strictly cash basis). In any other situation, it is a sign that a company may be facing bankruptcy or serious financial trouble.
