Book Retirement by Design

Download or read book Retirement by Design written by Ida Abbott and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find out how harnessing the powerful business principles of design thinking can make retirement your best chapter in life. There is no one right time or way to retire. Retirement is a major life transition; but if you spend the time designing a future filled with promise and possibilities, the prospect can be utterly exciting and revitalizing. In Retirement by Design, professional mentor and coach Ida Abbott shows you how the innovative business principles behind design thinking can be applied to plan a rich, fulfilling, and more meaningful retirement. Her guided workbook uses a business-like approach to leaving business, making your switch much smoother and less jolting. Whether you’re considering a new place to settle down, working through financial planning, strategizing how to unwind a business, or deciding on which organizations you want to stay engaged with, making critical decisions takes a lot of organization, thought, and planning. Abbott shows how the five principles of design thinking will revolutionize your retirement-planning process: Empathy: Get inside the shoes of your future self. What will be important to that version of you? Define: Hone in on what is and will be most critical for you to focus on (whether it’s volunteering, family, activities, or skills). Ideate: Draw, scribble, brainstorm, and throw around as many different retirement scenarios as you can come up with. Prototype: If retiring across the country in Arizona sounds perfect—try it out first. Come up with opportunities to test out your scenarios with short trips and trial time off. Test: This is the fun part—get back to the drawing board and try more retirement scenarios (and future versions of yourself) before sitting down to make those life-changing decisions. The new and innovative, self-coaching approach of Retirement by Design helps you spearhead and navigate a major next step in life. Whether your retirement is 10 years away or swiftly approaching, this workbook ensures you will create a future that is perfectly tailored to you.

Book Boomerangs Retirement Life Planning Self coaching

Download or read book Boomerangs Retirement Life Planning Self coaching written by Jeffrey Jans and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People say, "I'll never retire!" What they mean is they'll never stop working at something. Whether it is to keep making money and/or do something meaningful and significant, what that "something" is can be elusive. The goal of Circle Back to Your Dreams coaching is to help you find that which is uniquely yours to be and do. For those with only vague ideas of spending time with grandchildren, golfing, or traveling the retirement "honeymoon" can quickly evaporate into boredom and depression. Therefore, we encourage you to get as intentional about your Retirement Life as you are about your finances! Much more than income needs to be replaced when a person retires. Circle Back to Your Dreams is a retirement coaching process which enables you to "let go" of your career or profession, reconnect with or determine your life's purpose, and find the method or vehicle that will fulfill that purpose. The result is a "retirement" where each day you are engaged in something meaningful and significant to you. This 72 page, Self-Coaching Retirement Planning Workbook is filled with 22 activities designed to guide you through the process of circling back to your dreams and creating a retirement life that is uniquely yours. Millions of people have successfully retired in the past and did so without the benefit of coaching (either with an actual coach or from a workbook). Millions more have struggled. BOOMERangs Circle Back to Your Dreams does not prescribe what a successful retirement is. It is a process that leads you to create, discover, refine and implement a retirement that is right for you. Whether you are an individual, a couple or are part of a group of like-minded boomers, read and do the activities in each section of this coaching workbook and capture your responses on the pages provided. There are 4 sections to the workbook. 1.Introduction: The Shift to Retirement 2.Break from Career or Profession 3.Take a Productive Pause 4.Make a Fresh Start Within each section are activities that, when totally completed, will result in a direction or intention for your retirement and options for you to fulfill that self-chosen purpose. Four easy steps to a rewarding retirement! Really? Why, if it's that simple, are workbooks and coaching necessary? If you have the discipline combined with the imagination, determination and skill to ask yourself the right, hard questions, it may not be needed. Most people don't have all of these traits. So for the best results, we recommend you share your learnings and revelations from these activities with a coach or accountability partner such as a spouse, friend, family or colleague. Or create a group of like-minded individuals going through the same process as you. Your accountability partner(s) will help you to convert dreams into reality. When your "yeah, but" gets in your way, your accountability partner helps to keep you focused on your original dream and keeps your fire lit! Organizations and financial advisors will find this Retirement Life Planning workbook the perfect tool for helping employees and clients be intentional about their retirement life planning as they transition from career. With the purchase of this workbook, Jeffery Jans or Mickie Schroeder will provide a 30-minute complimentary coaching consultation. Visit www.BOOMERangsRetirementCoach.com to schedule your session.

Book Wealth After Work

Download or read book Wealth After Work written by William G. Gale and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pensions and retirement saving plans have helped millions of households build financial security. But tens of millions of people have been left behind, without access to these wealth accumulation vehicles. For many others, the plans they have do not ensure financial security in retirement. The problems that underlie these failures can be addressed. This book proposes concrete, practical ways to make dependable retirement income accessible for all Americans—not just those with means. Individual accounts have eclipsed traditional pensions as the primary vehicle for retirement saving in the United States—a shift that underlies many sources of retirement insecurity. The 401(k) plan and similar accounts have increased financial security for many people but have done nothing for millions more. Many of those who do have such plans are burdened with the need to make numerous saving, investment, and withdrawal decisions that stress their financial acumen. Financial advice that is unbiased, unconflicted, and affordable is often difficult to find. Managing wealth in retirement—especially the need to convert retirement savings into steady income—poses significant challenges that current financial instruments and practices do not adequately address. Economic downturns like the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic increase financial insecurity and make addressing these issues more urgent. Written by noted experts in the field, Wealth After Work offers practical solutions that address these concerns. The proposals show how policymakers can help all Americans gain access to retirement savings accounts, obtain better information about their savings choices, and better manage their wealth in retirement. By proposing solutions that build on, rather than replace the existing system, the book provides a nuanced, practical guide to reform that would benefit all Americans.

Download or read book My Next Phase written by Eric Sundstrom and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2007-09-26 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too many people 'flunk' retirement--even after a lifetime of hard work. Why? Because they only plan on their financial needs, not their emotional ones as they move into the next phase of life. The key to a successful retirement lies in your personality, NOT in your bank account. My Next Phase--featured in The New York Times, BusinessWeek, and The Washington Post--offers a revolutionary, step-by-step process to figure out your personal "Retirement Style" and creates a unique retirement plan based on who you are. Take the My Next Phase quizzes and find out: WHAT'S YOUR SOCIAL STYLE? If you're outgoing, you'll need companionship through your days, whether you leave your job or keep working. If you're contemplative, you'll need solitude as well as social connection to find the fulfillment in the years ahead. WHAT'S YOUR STRESS STYLE? If you're resilient, you'll push yourself to find challenge--and get bored without it. If you're responsive, you'll need to pace yourself. Either way, you'll need a passion that gives you a reason to get out of bed each day. WHAT'S YOUR PLANNING STYLE? If you're structured, you'll prefer to schedule your time. If you're flexible, you'll want a freer, less scheduled life. And many more questions (and answers) to ensure a happy, fulfilling 'next phase' of life.

Download or read book Faculty Retirement written by Jean McLaughlin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Co-published with ACE.This book addresses the critical and looming issue of retirement in higher education as the cohort of boomer generation faculty come to the close of their careers. On the one hand institutions need to replenish themselves, and so need older employees to retire. On the other, mass retirements can decimate departments, creating the need for mass hirings that will create another crisis in the future. At the same time, with the elimination of mandatory retirement, many faculty are working on into and beyond their seventies because they feel they still have much to contribute, because their identities are closely tied to their work, because they wish to remain connected to their institutions, or for financial reasons. Given institutions’ legal constraints and planning exigencies, and faculties’ varied motivations, what are the options that can satisfy the needs of both parties? This book presents a range of examples of how institutions of all types and sizes are addressing these dilemmas, and how faculty members have helped create or shape policies that address their needs and allow them to continue to play meaningful roles at their institutions. The contributors describe practices that address the concerns of those already nearing or in retirement, propose approaches to creating opportunities to start these sensitive discussions and address financial planning at early career stages, and outline strategies for developing clear structures and policies and communication so that individuals have a full understanding of their options as they make life-changing decisions. This book presents models from fifteen colleges and universities identified by the American Council on Education through a competition for having developed innovative and effective ways to help faculty transition into retirement. It offers clear messages about the need for greater transparency in addressing retirement and transitions, for better communication, and for close coordination between human resources and academic administrators. It offers a roadmap for HR personnel, senior administrators, department chairs, and faculty themselves.
