Download or read book Wood Coatings written by Franco Bulian and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-06-02 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wood Coatings addresses the factors responsible for the performance of wood coatings in both domestic and industrial situations. The term 'wood coatings' covers a broad range of products including stains, varnishes, paints and supporting ancillary products that may be used indoors or outdoors. Techniques for coating wood go back many centuries but in recent decades there has been a move towards more environmentally-friendly materials, for example, the use of water-borne rather than solvent-borne chemicals. A major objective of Wood Coatings is to explain the underlying factors that influence selection, application and general operational issues. Basic information on the chemistry and technology of coatings is included for the benefit of students and laboratory technicians. Additionally, the book includes individual chapters of interest to architects, specifiers, and industrial users. - Offers up-to-date guidance on current availability and usage of wood coatings - Provides the reader with a basic understanding of both coating and substrate interactions - Covers both architectural (trade and DIY) and industrial sectors

Download or read book A New Fracture Mechanics Theory of Wood written by T. A. C. M. van der Put and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the singularity approach of fracture mechanics is at its dead end because it is not possible to describe real failure at the crack boundary and to replace the real failure criteria by general energy conditions and the method remains empirical. Therefore the theoretical approach based on the elliptical flat crack has to be followed, leading to the possibility to derive and explain the empirical mixed "mode 1-11" interaction equation. Because it is shown that the singularity approach does not apply for wood, the theory is based on the flat elliptical crack. This book examines a new fracture mechanics theory of wood. Further discussed: the derivation of the power-law; the energy method of notched beams and of joints loaded perpendicular to the grain; the necessary rejection of the applied crack growth models and fictitious crack models and the Weibull size effect in fracture mechanics.
Download or read book BE 2 0 Beyond Entrepreneurship 2 0 written by Jim Collins and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Jim Collins, the most influential business thinker of our era, comes an ambitious upgrade of his classic, Beyond Entrepreneurship, that includes all-new findings and world-changing insights. What's the roadmap to create a company that not only survives its infancy but thrives, changing the world for decades to come? Nine years before the publication of his epochal bestseller Good to Great, Jim Collins and his mentor, Bill Lazier, answered this question in their bestselling book, Beyond Entrepreneurship. Beyond Entrepreneurship left a definitive mark on the business community, influencing the young pioneers who were, at that time, creating the technology revolution that was birthing in Silicon Valley. Decades later, successive generations of entrepreneurs still turn to the strategies outlined in Beyond Entrepreneurship to answer the most pressing business questions. BE 2.0 is a new and improved version of the book that Jim Collins and Bill Lazier wrote years ago. In BE 2.0, Jim Collins honors his mentor, Bill Lazier, who passed away in 2005, and reexamines the original text of Beyond Entrepreneurship with his 2020 perspective. The book includes the original text of Beyond Entrepreneurship, as well as four new chapters and fifteen new essays. BE 2.0 pulls together the key concepts across Collins' thirty years of research into one integrated framework called The Map. The result is a singular reading experience, which presents a unified vision of company creation that will fascinate not only Jim's millions of dedicated readers worldwide, but also introduce a new generation to his remarkable work.
Download or read book Republican Ascendancy in Southern U S House Elections written by Seth C. McKee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tremendous transformation marks the last three decades of American politics, and nowhere has this change been as distinctive and penetrating as in the American South. After 120 consecutive years of minority status, the rapid ascendancy of Southern House Republicans in the 1990s has reshaped the contours of contemporary American politics: increasing party polarization, making a Republican House majority possible, and, most recently, contributing to the revival of Democratic fortunes in national congressional elections. Southern Republican ascendancy constitutes an exemplar of party system change, made possible by three sequential factors: increasing Republican identification, redistricting, and the emergence of viable Republican candidates. Relying on existing and original data sources, this text presents the most recent example of large-scale partisan change. Beyond serving as a primer for the study of political parties, campaigns and elections, and Southern politics, Republican Ascendancy in Southern U.S. House Elections provides an original theoretical argument and an expansive view of why political change in the South has such strong implications for national politics.

Download or read book Adhesives for Wood and Lignocellulosic Materials written by R. N. Kumar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique and ground-breaking book from two leading specialists on adhesion and adhesives for wood and lignocellulosic materials The book is a comprehensive treatment covering a wide range of subjects uniquely available in a single source for the first time. A material science approach has been adopted in dealing with wood adhesion and adhesives. The approach of the authors is to bring out hierarchical cellular and porous characteristics of wood with polymeric cell wall structure, along with the associated non-cell wall extractives, which greatly influence the interaction of wood substrate with polymeric adhesives in a very unique manner not existent in the case of other adherends. Environmental aspects, in particular formaldehyde emission from adhesive bonded wood products, has been included. A significant feature of the book is the inclusion of polymeric matrix materials for wood polymer composites.
