The report defines biomass energy and describes some of the benefits of biomass energy heating systems, as well as some of the challenges of supplying wood chips in remote communities. Two wood chip supply options are examined: using conventional forest machines such as skidders, dump trucks, and wood chippers; and using conventional agricultural machines, such as tractors, with forestry attachments. Information on these options is presented with respect to planning & selecting a wood chip supply system, advantages, limitations, and estimated costs. The report identifies program areas that may require future change or action, including continued efforts to address turbidity and responding to changes in reservoir water quality as a result of climate change.
