Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hardwood Record, Vol. 38: April-October, 1914 The manufacture of wood products in Chicago is highly diversi fied. Forty - three industries are separately listed and reported upon. This includes nearly all of the regular and some of the special wood-using industries of this country. No large industry is omitted. The largest, in its demand for wood, is that which makes boxes and crates. This is to be expected from the fact that Chicago is a great shipping center for almost all kinds of merchandise, and immense numbers of boxes are demanded to carry the products to the retail merchants in the surrounding towns and states. Though feet of lumber are yearly manufactured into boxes in Chicago, it is well known that this is not the whole quantity used. Shooks ready to nail together into finished boxes are shipped in from states as far away as Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Tennessee. No records are kept of those which thus come in from outside regions, but it is known that the num ber is large, and that if it were added to the boxes and crates made in Chicago the total would be greatly increased. Download or read book Descendants of the Brothers Jeremiah and John Wood Classic Reprint written by William S. Wood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-10 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Descendants of the Brothers Jeremiah and John Wood The descendants of the brothers Jeremiah and John Wood are found in most of the States and Territories of the United States, as well as in some of the isles of the sea and distant lands. The compiler has labored long and persistently to bring together the records of these various branches, and he hopes this volume may meet with a kind reception among those for whom it has been especially prepared. It has been thought best to publish this pioneer Genealogy of the brothers Jeremiah and John Wood, not waiting for absolute perfection, hoping that it may give information and stimulate enquiry concerning our kindred, that we may be more strongly bound together as one great family, whether by the name of Wood or otherwise. The compiler takes pleasure in saying that his respect and veneration for this family has been largely increased by his researches, and he believes it will bear favorable comparison with other great families whose genealogical records have been carefully preserved. May we all do what we can to perfect and preserve our own. In the language of Job, VIII. 8: Enquire, I pray thee, of the' former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers. Book The Meriwethers and Their Connections

Download or read book The Meriwethers and Their Connections written by Louisa H. A. Minor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Meriwethers and Their Connections: A Family Record, Giving the Genealogy of the Meriwethers in America, Together With Biographical Notes and Sketches In giving the Meriwether family this record of their ancestors, I wish to say, it is not all my work. Some two years ago, two ladies of Louisville, Ky. One of the name, and the other of the Meriwether blood - got together quite a record of the family, and had it published in book form, but it was only intended for private distribution, and the number of copies issued were limited. I was among the favored few; but it was not as complete as I wished; my own branch being but sparsely represented. So, with the consent of the two ladies mentioned, I deter mined ou a second edition. So many of the connec tion are anxious for a copy and encourage me in my undertaking. I owe much to a family biography made by Mr. George Wood Meriwether of Louisville, who died in that city in 1864. He was the Family Antiquary of his day, and preserved incidents and data of the family, which would otherwise have been lost to the generations to come. Much of this family history is of a personal nature, so I have not the liberty to use it, but have gathered many valuable items from it. To his daughter, who owns the Biography, I owe many thanks. This book was released on 2017-02-24 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Reminiscences and Records of My Father, Rev. Leonard Woods, D. D., Of Andover Now that I have finished these Reminiscences and Records of my father, and closed my portfolio containing letters from him, memoranda, and documents, which I have been collecting for twenty years, I feel a pang as though the parting from him was new and fresh. While writing, I have, with the eye of my mind, seen his tall form before me, and his mild blue eyes gazing into mine. I have felt the influence of his kind, loving, forgiving heart, guiding my pen. Many and many a sentence have I erased, because, on reading it over, I have felt, this he would not approve.
