Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wonderland, 1906 One of the interesting things, to me, in connection with Yellowstone Park, our great national park, is to read what foreigners write of it. We are, ourselves, so prone to think that almost everything worth seeing, in the line of natural wonders and scenery, is to be found everywhere except in our own land, that it is not only interesting but instructive to know what travelers from foreign lands think of the nature wonders we can show. Book Malaysia Nature s Wonderland Classic Reprint

Download or read book Malaysia Nature s Wonderland Classic Reprint written by Bishop Wm; F. Oldham and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Malaysia Nature's Wonderland Malaysia is the name commonly given to the lands inhabited by the Malay speaking peoples of Southeastern Asia. Some British geographers prefer the term "Malaya," but as other British writers mean by this term only the Malay possessions under the British flag, it becomes confusing to apply it to all the Malay speaking lands over which many flags float. In this little book, therefore, the term Malay will connote only the British possessions in Malaysia, and the latter term will be applied to all the Malay speaking lands. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wonders of Nature: As Seen and Described by Famous Writers The range is somewhat limited, for I have confined my self to the description of the grand, the curious and the awe-inspiring in nature, leaving the beauties of landscape for future treatment. Those who miss the Lakes of Kil larney or the vine-clad hills of the Rhine therefore will te member that in the following pages I have purposely neglected beautiful scenery. The professional traveller, by which I mean the emissary of a scientific society, appears very seldom here, because it is the effect produced rather than the topographical or de tailed description that I have sought. I hope this book will appeal to that large class of readers that takes pleasure in travelling by imagination, as well as to those who have actually seen the objects described and pictured here. Book Wild Nature s Ways Classic Reprint

Download or read book Wild Nature s Ways Classic Reprint written by R. Kearton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wild Nature's Ways Job said, Speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee, and no man who has ever honestly taken this advice to heart is in a position to gainsay its truth. To learn to appreciate the beauties of the world in which we live is a great victory. It establishes within us a never-failing source of pleasure, and enhances the value of existence a thousandfold. I would not exchange the every day joys of a healthy observant ploughman for the worrying wealth and cares of a millionaire. The idea that to be rich in gold is to be happy is a dying, vulgar fallacy. Men are coming to know that there are greater possessions than those which can be measured by the surveyor's chain or locked in iron safes. A love of Nature is one of them, and it has the unspeakably good quality of endurance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Wonderland Junior Classic Reprint

Download or read book Wonderland Junior Classic Reprint written by Northern Pacific Railroad Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wonderland Junior The Minnesota State Geological Survey, a competent authority certainly, asserts that there are in this land of "sky-tinted water" - the meaning of the word Minnesota - more than 10,000 lakes. Does it happen to strike you just what this signifies, not merely as to the large number of lakes, although that is phenomenal, but to go back to the causes which produced such a state of things? The presence of so many lakes within, comparatively speaking, so limited an area, usually means the former presence of glaciers. It means that the region in which the now glittering and peaceful lakelet is found was once covered with a vast ice-field, and that the face of nature has undergone a transformation scene more wonderful than the ordinary mind can conceive. This is precisely the case here. Parts of Minnesota and the Dakotas were once covered with one of the greatest glaciers of ancient times. Within the territory now included in two or three counties in Minnesota, through the very heart of which the Northern Pacific Railroad runs, the phenomena resulting from this glacial period reached their highest culmination, and ergo the number of lakes is here the greatest, and scenic display of this sort found its highest perfection in the Lake Park region. The Lake Park country thus becomes doubly interesting. First, from its innate beauty; second, from the causes that produced it. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The World of Wonders: A Record of Things Wonderful in Nature, Science, and Art But if we confine ourselves to the wonders of this world, and do not soar to the three thousand worlds in the sky visible to the naked eye, nor to the fifty thousand stars that passed, says Sir William Her schel, f' over a field of view two degrees of breadth in a single hour, we shall have enough to do, and what we are about to endeavour we have, perhaps, sufficiently indicated to the reader. In all cases we shall give as far as possible the authorities on which our statements are based, though for the credibility of the facts related we cannot of course undertake to be responsible. The purely scientific wonders will be treated of by writers of eminence in their respective spheres. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
