Download or read book Famous Women in History Coloring Book written by Adrienne Kleinschmidt and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's important for all of us to share with the newest generations our wisdom. I think young girls should have heroes in their lives. All through history, women have been there. On the sidelines doing their services. Or right along side the men. It astounds me to see how the most valuable trait I read about was their ability to nurture. Their ability to heal and care beyond just a job, but in servitude to their hearts and souls as well. And in my own inimitable way, I present it in rhyme and coloring together. Again, to imagine is to be! And these women and so many more imagined who they could be, and became that woman! Bravo!

Book Being Good

    Book Details:
  • Author : Martha Saxton
  • Publisher : Macmillan
  • Release : 2003
  • ISBN : 0809016338
  • Pages : 402 pages

Download or read book Being Good written by Martha Saxton and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2003 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pathbreaking new study of women and morality How do people decide what is "good" and what is "bad"? How does a society set moral guidelines -- and what happens when the behavior of various groups differs from these guidelines? Martha Saxton tackles these and other fascinating issues in Being Good, her history of the moral values prescribed for women in early America. Saxton begins by examining seventeenth-century Boston, then moves on to eighteenth-century Virginia and nineteenth-century St. Louis. Studying women throughout the life cycle -- girls, young unmarried women, young wives and mothers, older widows -- through their diaries and personal papers, she also studies the variations due to different ethnicities and backgrounds. In all three cases, she is able to show how the values of one group conflicted with or developed in opposition to those of another. And, as the women's testimonies make clear, the emotional styles associated with different value systems varied. A history of American women's moral life thus gives us a history of women's emotional life as well. In lively and penetrating prose, Saxton argues that women's morals changed from the days of early colonization to the days of westward expansion, as women became at once less confined and less revered by their men -- and explores how these changes both reflected and affected trends in the nation at large.

Book Bridging the Gap Breaching Barriers

Download or read book Bridging the Gap Breaching Barriers written by Mary Carol Cloutier and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its very beginning, in June 1842, the Protestant Mission in Gabon included men and women of African descent--African Americans, Americo-Liberians, and West Africans--all teachers and advanced students from the Cape Palmas (Liberia) Mission, who transferred with the mission to its new location on the Gaboon estuary. All came voluntarily and wholeheartedly. They served as teachers, evangelists, preachers, and printers, building the early foundation of Christianity in Gabon. Many eventually returned to their homelands, but others stayed for the duration of their lives, assimilating into the local community. This book celebrates the contribution of persons of African descent who served with the mission from 1834 until 1891, a time of complex and controversial race relations in America, which seeped into mission relations overseas. Private missionary correspondence and journals reveal the interrelationships, roles, and contributions of these individuals, and also the underlying perceptions of nationality, race, and gender. One must grieve the injustices evident in the stories, yet marvel at the giftedness, faith, determination and commitment of those who served, often with no official recognition. I introduce you to Mr. B. V. R. James, Lavinia Sneed, Charity Sneed Menkel, Mary Harding, and others--may their stories inspire you!

Download or read book Gloria E Anzald a written by Grażyna Zygadło and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-27 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gloria E. Anzaldúa is a crucial figure in contemporary border and women’s studies. When in 1987 she published her groundbreaking book Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, she became one of the most often quoted writers of the US–Mexico border, but she remains relatively little known outside Americas. In one of the first monographs written on her work, Grażna Zygadło introduces Anzaldúa’s work and outlines her feminist revisionist thinking to new audiences, especially in Europe. The author defines these borderlands as areas where numerous systems of power, exploitation, and oppression intersect – capitalism, patriarchy, racism, and white man’s supremacy. She also concentrates on the innovative philosophy of women’s writing from the body that Anzaldúa has propagated and on her formative role in the women of color feminism. Zygadło also works to expand Anzaldúa’s borderland thinking by applying it to the recent issues related to migration crisis and border problems in the European Union – namely the contradictory treatment of refugees at the Polish eastern border. Gloria E. Anzaldúa is situated at the intersection of various disciplines, in particular, American cultural studies, feminist criticism, and Latin American postcolonial studies, and is a valuable source of knowledge about Anzaldúa’s ideas for undergraduate and graduate students.
