And Norwegians were Christian - most of them even Lutheran. Slowly at first, but then with increasing momentum, our neighbourhoods and villages changed from being mono-cultural and mono-religious into something less Norwegian, but more like a rainbow society. This book brings together the presentations of a symposium on these issues. It featured two international keynote speakers, Robert Schreiter and Kirsteen Kim, as well as a group of presenters and respondents, to discuss and reflect on the challenges to witnessing to Christ in societies with multiple faith traditions. There is hardly any context for the Christian witness which is not a multi-religious and multicultural context. Also the landscapes of multi-religious and multi-cultural contexts are changing. We are in our witness accountable for the hope we have in the living God, and we are accountable to those for whom the Gospel is given as a word of hope. That is not changing as the landscape and the focus of our joint pilgrimage of the Christian witness is changing. This book is a significant contribution to this reflection, connecting both the Norwegian perspective and the global, ecumenical, and inter-religious challenge. But there are also records of modern-day medical miracles that non-Christian doctors cannot explain. Additionally, thousands of people have chosen to share their near-death experiences with a research foundation, and virtually all of them reported that they came back with a profound understanding of God's love. In an interesting 1982 blind prayer study conducted by the San Francisco Medical Center, data suggests that the intercessory prayer to the Judeo-Christian God had a beneficial therapeutic effect in patients who were admitted to a critical care unit.Although there are many biblical and religious documents that recorded events in Jesus's life, there are well over ten independent accounts from outside the biblical record that identify over sixty life events and beliefs about Jesus's life. Finally, we must look to human nature itself for evidence of the existence of God and his son, Jesus Christ. Many Christians, including Jesus, and all but one of his disciples were persecuted, horribly tortured, and died excruciating deaths because of their belief in God. Many people throughout history have been willing to die for what they truly believed in, but no one willingly dies for what they know to be a lie.Finally, how do you approach a nonbeliever and talk with them about faith? This is difficult for most people, as they feel that they must have some specialized training in order to do so. One does not need a special gift to evangelize. The mandate to be a witness applies to every follower of Christ. This book can help you be a true witness!

'Ecclesial Identities in a Multi-Faith Context' contextualises the practices and identities of these leaders and their gatherings, situating these in the religious history of the region and the personal histories of the leaders themselves. Whereas some Christians worry that the Yeshu satsangs and related 'insider movements' are syncretising their beliefs and are not properly identifiable as 'churches', Darren Todd Duerksen analyses the Yeshu satsang's narratives and practices to find vibrantexpressions of local church that are grappling with questions and tensions of social and religious identity. In addition to his ethnographic approach, Duerksen also uses recent sociological and anthropological theory in identity formation and critical realism, as well as discussions of biblical ecclesiology from the Book of Acts.
