Download or read book The Optimum Utilization Of Knowledge written by Kenneth E. Boulding and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all have more knowledge than we use; even so, say the editors of this book, ignorance often governs our actions. Society continues to find ways to misuse knowledge–from manipulating information to gain political power to restricting what ideas are explored on university campuses. Thus, when some of the best minds in the country met to focus on the optimum utilization of knowledge, it was not an idle academic inquiry. In these proceedings from that conference, which was sponsored by the Academy of Independent Scholars, the contributors examine several of the key aspects of learning: the importance of knowledge in decision making, the role of our educational system and other systems in producing and disseminating knowledge, and the relationship between knowledge and the physiological, psychological, and cultural bases of the learning process. The misuse of knowledge–or the overuse of ignorance–the authors note, could threaten the existence of the entire planet, if the kind of thinking exemplified by the nuclear arms race prevails.
Download or read book On Faith Works Eternity and the Creatures We Are written by André Barbera and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume André Barbera considers the question of faith, how an individual may act faithfully, and what good (if any) is faithful action. Drawing on the letters of the Apostle Paul and the work of philosophical thinkers such as Søren Kierkegaard, Barbera explores numerous aspects of faithful living, from religion, original sin, and tests of faith, to the power of prayer, and even the concept of atheism. In particular, Barbera formulates a postulate drawn from Augustine's Confessions: God is not bound by time. The person of faith, however, is enslaved by time. Augustine's expression “faith seeking understanding” stakes the claim,” but the mode of faith and the end of faith are inherently contradictory. The faithful person waits in pursuit, choking. Works, the anxiety of faith, ensue. Barbera concludes that the person of faith engages in endless trial, struggle, and contradiction, but in so doing attempts to produce a meaningful life.

Download or read book What Is God Like and What Is Man written by Jesús Humberto Enríquez Rubio and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHAT IS GOD LIKE? AND WHAT IS MAN? Once again, God talks to man, this time through this book. Seven brief messages sufficed for God to describe Himself and talk about who He is, what He does, what He expects, why He created man and how this creation takes place, what elements He bestowed upon man, and how He portrays Himself in man, His opus magnum. It also describes what God expects us to achieve and what destiny has in store for all of us. IT IS CRUCIAL FOR EVERYONEREGARDLESS OF SEX, RELIGION, OR OF THE CONCEPT WE HAVE ABOUT GODTO READ THIS BOOK TO TRULY KNOW GOD, WITHOUT THE NEED TO RELY ON A MENTOR OR GUIDE. It includes a description of Gods personality by means of A TRUE THEOLOGY (based on His description, independently from any philosophical or theological theories, in a straightforward manner and free of false assumptions). GOD IS HUMBLE. HE IS THE MOST LOVING AND UNDERSTANDING ENTITY YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE. HE LIVES IN YOU. HE IS NEITHER WRATHFUL NOR RESENTFUL. HE DOES NOT PUNISH ANYONE. HE IS NEITHER UNCARING NOR SELFISH. YOU NEED TO TRULY KNOW HIM, FOR HE IS YOUR FINAL DESTINATION. Finally, you must know your true nature. You are a son of God and possess the same qualities and attributes as your Father (God). As a son of God, you are also a god, though still in a larva-like stage. You live inside a cocoon, but you are of the same nature as God. One day you shall become a butterfly and reunite with Him; that is your fate. You will become one with Him for all eternity. These are the three chapters comprising this book. This is the greatest learning experience anyone can aspire to, regardless of their social standing or religionyou could be a rich, powerful man, or you could be the Pope, a rabbi, etc., or even the poorest, humblest and most ignorant man. The fact that we live in a larva-like stage creates a condition of equality: We are all larvae seeking the truthrepresented by God, from whom we originated and in whom we will find our fate.

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Religious Literacy Pluralism and Global Engagement written by Chris Seiple and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-27 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pioneering handbook proposes an approach to pluralism that is relational, principled, and non-relativistic, going beyond banal calls for mere "tolerance." The growing religious diversity within societies around the world presents both challenges and opportunities. A degree of competition between deeply held religious/worldview perspectives is natural and inevitable, yet at the same time the world urgently needs engagement and partnership across lines of difference. None of the world’s most pressing problems can be solved by any single actor, and as such it is not a question of if but when you partner with an individual or institution that does not think, act, or believe as you do. The authors argue that religious literacy—defined as a dynamic combination of competencies and skills, continuously refined through real-world cross-cultural engagement—is vital to building societies and states of neighborly solidarity and civic fairness. Through examination, reflection, and case studies across multiple faith traditions and professional fields, this handbook equips scholars and students, as well as policymakers and practitioners, to assess, analyze, and act collaboratively in a world of deep diversity. Book excerpt: “Gene Wolfe is the smartest, subtlest, most dangerous writer alive today, in genre or out of it. This book [is] important and wonderful.” —Neil Gaiman on The Knight A novel in two volumes, The Wizard Knight is in the rare company of works of fantasy like The Once and Future King, or The Wizard of Earthsea, that drink directly from the wellspring of myth. Now it appears in a single-volume edition for the first time. A young man in his teens is transported from our world to a magical realm consisting of seven levels of reality. Transformed by magic into a grown man of heroic proportions, he takes the name Sir Able of the High Heart and sets out on a quest to find the sword that has been promised to him, the blade that will help him fulfill his ambition to become a true hero—a true knight. Inside, however, Sir Able remains a boy, and he must grow in every sense to survive what lies ahead... “[Wolfe] should enjoy the same rapt attention we afford to Thomas Pynchon, Toni Morrison, and Cormac McCarthy.” —The Washington Post on The Knight “Wolfe’s version of Faerie is both allusive and elusive, beautiful and fatally glamorous.” —Tad Williams on The Knight With a new introduction by Yves Meynard, acclaimed author of The Book of Knights.
