This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So far as I know, no British soldier who served on the Italian Front has yet published a book about his experiences. Ten British Batteries went to Italy in the spring of 1917 and passed through memorable days. But their story has not yet been told. Nor, except in the language of official dispatches, has that of the British Divisions which went to Italy six months later, some of which remained and took part in the final and decisive phases of the war against Austria. Something more should soon be written concerning the doings of the British troops in Italy, for they deserve to stand out clearly in the history of the war.

Book Heroes Every Child Should Know

Download or read book Heroes Every Child Should Know written by Hamilton Wright Mabie and published by 1st World Publishing. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purchase one of 1st World Library's Classic Books and help support our free internet library of downloadable eBooks. Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - - If there had been no real heroes there would have been created imaginary ones, for men cannot live without them. The hero is just as necessary as the farmer, the sailor, the carpenter and the doctor; society could not get on without him. There have been a great many different kinds of heroes, for in every age and among every people the hero has stood for the qualities that were most admired and sought after by the bravest and best; and all ages and peoples have imagined or produced heroes as inevitably as they have made ploughs for turning the soil or ships for getting through the water or weapons with which to fight their enemies. To be some kind of a hero has been the ambition of spirited boys from the beginning of history; and if you want to know what the men and women of a country care for most, you must study their heroes. To the boy the hero stands for the highest success: to the grown man and woman he stands for the deepest and richest life.

Book excerpt: Many consider ‘Anna Karenina’ to be the greatest novel of all time. A profound and exhaustive exploration of Russian life and the human condition. Tolstoy creates one of the most complex heroines in literature as he details Anna falling a conscious victim to her own passion. The dramatic scope of the story, the memorable characters, and the wealth of emotions that Tolstoy displays render ‘Anna Karenina’ much more than a novel, but rather an unmissable chronicle of the human condition that transcends both space and time. A perfect delve into Russian literature for those who enjoyed Christy Lefteri’s ‘The Beekeeper of Aleppo’. Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) was a Russian author. His focus was novels, but he also wrote many short stories, alongside essays and plays in his later life. Deemed the master of realistic fiction, his novel ‘Anna Karenina’ (1875-77) is considered to be the greatest novel of all time. Some of his other notable works include ‘War and Peace' (1865-69), ‘The Kingdom of God is Within You’ (1894), and his final novel ‘Resurrection’ (1899). His frank examinations of the world around him are unmissable for fans of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Anton Chekhov, and Virginia Woolf, who was openly inspired by Tolstoy’s ideas about social class.

Book The Lost Civilization of Lemuria

Download or read book The Lost Civilization of Lemuria written by Frank Joseph and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-05-17 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling new portrait of the lost realm of Lemuria, the original motherland of humanity • Contains the most extensive and up-to-date archaeological research on Lemuria • Reveals a lost, ancient technology in some respects more advanced than modern science • Provides evidence that the perennial philosophies have their origin in Lemurian culture Before the Indonesian tsunami or Hurricane Katrina’s destruction of New Orleans, there was the destruction of Lemuria. Oral tradition in Polynesia recounts the story of a splendid kingdom that was carried to the bottom of the sea by a mighty “warrior wave”--a tsunami. This lost realm has been cited in numerous other indigenous traditions, spanning the globe from Australia to Asia to the coasts of both South and North America. It was known as Lemuria or Mu, a vast realm of islands and archipelagoes that once sprawled across the Pacific Ocean. Relying on 10 years of research and extensive travel, Frank Joseph offers a compelling picture of this motherland of humanity, which he suggests was the original Garden of Eden. Using recent deep-sea archaeological finds, enigmatic glyphs and symbols, and ancient records shared by cultures divided by great distances that document the story of this sunken world, Joseph painstakingly re-creates a picture of this civilization in which people lived in rare harmony and possessed a sophisticated technology that allowed them to harness the weather, defy gravity, and conduct genetic investigations far beyond what is possible today. When disaster struck Lemuria, the survivors made their way to other parts of the world, incorporating their scientific and mystical skills into the existing cultures of Asia, Polynesia, and the Americas. Totem poles of the Pacific Northwest, architecture in China, the colossal stone statues on Easter Island, and even the perennial philosophies all reveal their kinship to this now-vanished civilization.
