Book Wireless Possibilities

Download or read book Wireless Possibilities written by A. M. Low and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a description of the possible uses of wireless radio connection. It was written by Archibald Montgomery Low (1888 – 1956) who has been called the "father of radio guidance systems" due to his pioneering work on planes, torpedoes, boats and guided rockets. The book was published when even radio itself was a novelty. Low looks at the use of radio in several different fields including that of war. Some of his words seem quite prophetic, for example " It will not be long before travelers by air, land, and water, will be no longer alone That they will be able to converse with their homes may seem no advantage, but that they can remain in touch with the rest of mankind is most obviously desirable" Low was a very clever man in his time, (he developed the first powered drone aircraft).but he did not become as famous as he might have deserved because he was not widely liked and never held a professorship, though he called himself 'professor'.

Book Wireless Connectivity

Download or read book Wireless Connectivity written by Petar Popovski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Connectivity: An Intuitive and Fundamental Guide Wireless connectivity has become an indispensable part, a commodity associated with the way we work and play. The latest developments, the 5G, next-generation Wi-Fi and Internet of Things connectivity, are the key enablers for widespread digitalization of practically all industries and public sector segments. This immense development within the last three decades have been accompanied by a large number of ideas, articles, patents, and even myths. This book introduces the most important ideas and concepts in wireless connectivity and discusses how these are interconnected, whilst the mathematical content is kept minimal. The book does not follow the established, linear structure in which one starts from the propagation and channels and then climbs up the protocol layers. The structure is, rather, nonlinear, in an attempt to follow the intuition used when one creates a new technology to solve a certain problem. The target audience is: Students in electronics, communication, and networking Wireless engineers that are specialized in one area, but want to know how the whole system works, without going through all the details and math Computer scientists that want to understand the fundamentals of wireless connectivity, the requirements and, most importantly, the limitations Engineers in energy systems, logistics, transport and other vertical sectors that are increasingly reliant on wireless technology

Book Wireless and Mobile Networking

Download or read book Wireless and Mobile Networking written by Jozef Wozniak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-08-31 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent spectacular achievements in wireless, mobile, and sensor networks have dramatically changed our lives in many ways. However, the rapid evolution of wireless systems not only promises increased functionality, reliability, availability, and security, as well as putting a wide variety of new services at the users’ disposal ? it also creates a number of design challenges that our research community is now facing. Scientists and engineers need to come up with, and promptly implement, novel wireless network architectures, while system operators and planners rethink their business models and attend to the growing expectations of their customer base. To provide a suitable forum for discussion between researchers, practitioners, and industry representatives interested in new developments in the respective research area, IFIP WG 6. 8 launched three separate series of conferences: MWCN (Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks), PWC (Personal Wireless Communications), and WSAN (Wireless Sensor and Actors Networks). In 2008, MWCN and PWC were merged into the IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC 2008), held in Toulouse, France, from September 30 to October 2, 2008. MWNC 2008 and PWC 2008 topics were subsequently revised with a view to covering the whole spectrum of hot issues in wireless and mobile networking. As a result, IFIP WG 6. 8 decided to add WSAN as another WMNC track.

Book Communities of the Air

Download or read book Communities of the Air written by Susan Merrill Squier and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2003-06-19 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pioneering analysis of radio as both a cultural and material production, Communities of the Air explores radio’s powerful role in shaping Anglo-American culture and society since the early twentieth century. Scholars and radio writers, producers, and critics look at the many ways radio generates multiple communities over the air—from elite to popular, dominant to resistant, canonical to transgressive. The contributors approach radio not only in its own right, but also as a set of practices—both technological and social—illuminating broader issues such as race relations, gender politics, and the construction of regional and national identities. Drawing on the perspectives of literary and cultural studies, science studies and feminist theory, radio history, and the new field of radio studies, these essays consider the development of radio as technology: how it was modeled on the telephone, early conflicts between for-profit and public uses of radio, and amateur radio (HAMS), local programming, and low-power radio. Some pieces discuss how radio gives voice to different cultural groups, focusing on the BBC and poetry programming in the West Indies, black radio, the history of alternative radio since the 1970s, and science and contemporary arts programming. Others look at radio’s influence on gender (and gender’s influence on radio) through examinations of Queen Elizabeth’s broadcasts, Gracie Allen’s comedy, and programming geared toward women. Together the contributors demonstrate how attention to the variety of ways radio is used and understood reveals the dynamic emergence and transformation of communities within the larger society. Goodlad, Nina Hunteman, Leah Lowe, Adrienne Munich, Kathleen Newman, Martin Spinelli, Susan Merrill Squier, Donald Ulin, Mark Williams, Steve Wurzler
