Book Winds of Wild Glory

Download or read book Winds of Wild Glory written by D L Goddard and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wild Glory is a land of beauty and peace. A peace that had been hard won over millennia ago, as an undying creature attempted to make Glory his own. The slaughter and the destruction was beyond belief. He had to be stopped at any cost. The creature was tricked by one he had loved and cherished and she was the one who ensured he was imprisoned in a fold in unreality, with all his power drained from him. He could not be killed, they had tried many times, including a failed attempt that severed his head. Still, he lived. The fey watched over the monster, the Eldritch and the Wisp, the immortal races pledged to be his jailors and life went on. Cities were rebuilt, the races buried their dead. Millennia passed, and the monster was all but forgotten, an old tale many no longer believed. But something changed. The horrified Eldritch could hear and feel the beast gaining in power, stirring in his prison. The Wise Ones gathered and realized Atal, the bringer of darkness, the slayer of lives beyond counting, was going to break free once more. An old forgotten poem is discovered, as prophesized by one of their very youngest fey. Broken into pieces, the poem was given to Caretakers to keep it safe until it was needed. A desperate search for the rest of the pieces begins. The Wise Ones seek the one couple spoken of in the poem. Theirs is a love so pure and strong that it empowers the Flame and sets all Wild Glory on fire. Discovering the true meaning of the poem will get rid of the darkness and save their world.

Getting his slaves to find the best and the brightest Charter City has to offer. Murder is something that none of the inhabitants of the city have ever seen or heard of in their lifetimes. But it doesn't take long before murder becomes all too common. Atal needs the blood of his prophesized bride to finally break free of his prison, but in the meanwhile, he gets the blood of the best in the city. It enables him to perform magic to fool his followers into thinking he is already free. He attempts to find his bride, but the bride he wants is the soul mate of the Prince of the Wilderun, and he had no intention of letting Atal anywhere near his precious mate. The Prince and his friends leave Charter City and race to Serra, the capital city and the jewel of the Wildling Lands, to prepare the Wilderun to defend itself against Atal. Once before Atal attacked Serra. He razed Serra to the ground, burning everything in sight. The Wildling Lands were devastated, and the population almost wiped out. Before long, Atal would be free to kill again, and he had a personal grudge against the Wilderun. He was determined to finish the job he had started long ago. Charter City was the capital city of Wild Glory and it had slowly been falling into the darkness that was spreading all throughout the surrounding towns and villages. Atal was feeding on their fear and on their deaths, as he killed everything that lived in each village and town. Charter City became a place of dark despair, surrounded on all sides by the dead and dying and the countryside burned. It burned as Atal fed; Atal would soon be free to punish Wild Glory for his imprisonment. Atal's gift to Wild Glory was ... Death.

Book Ultimate Glory

Download or read book Ultimate Glory written by David Gessner and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A story of obsession, glory, and the wild early days of Ultimate Frisbee. David Gessner devoted his twenties to a cultish sport called Ultimate Frisbee. Like his teammates and rivals, he trained for countless hours, sacrificing his body and potential career for a chance at fleeting glory without fortune or fame. His only goal: to win Nationals and go down in Ultimate history as one of the greatest athletes no one has ever heard of. With humor and raw honesty, Gessner explores what it means to devote one’s life to something that many consider ridiculous. Today, Ultimate is played by millions, but in the 1980s, it was an obscure sport with a (mostly) undeserved stoner reputation. Its early heroes were as scrappy as the sport they loved, driven by fierce competition, intense rivalries, epic parties, and the noble ideals of the Spirit of the Game. Ultimate Glory is a portrait of the artist as a young ruffian. Gessner shares the field and his seemingly insane obsession with a cast of closely knit, larger-than-life characters. As his sport grows up, so does he, and eventually he gives up chasing flying discs to pursue a career as a writer. But he never forgets his love for this misunderstood sport and the rare sense of purpose he attained as a member of its priesthood.

Book Where Men Win Glory

Download or read book Where Men Win Glory written by Jon Krakauer and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A "gripping book about this extraordinary man who lived passionately and died unnecessarily" (USA Today) in post-9/11 Afghanistan, from the bestselling author of Into the Wild and Into Thin Air. In 2002, Pat Tillman walked away from a multimillion-dollar NFL contract to join the Army and became an icon of American patriotism. When he was killed in Afghanistan two years later, a legend was born. But the real Pat Tillman was much more remarkable, and considerably more complicated than the public knew. Sent first to Iraq—a war he would openly declare was “illegal as hell” —and eventually to Afghanistan, Tillman was driven by emotionally charged, sometimes contradictory notions of duty, honor, justice, and masculine pride, and he was determined to serve his entire three-year commitment. But on April 22, 2004, his life would end in a barrage of bullets fired by his fellow soldiers. Though obvious to most of the two dozen soldiers on the scene that a ranger in Tillman’s own platoon had fired the fatal shots, the Army aggressively maneuvered to keep this information from Tillman’s family and the American public for five weeks following his death. During this time, President Bush used Tillman’s name to promote his administration’ s foreign policy. Long after Tillman’s nationally televised memorial service, the Army grudgingly notified his closest relatives that he had “probably” been killed by friendly fire while it continued to dissemble about the details of his death and who was responsible. Drawing on Tillman’s journals and letters and countless interviews with those who knew him and extensive research in Afghanistan, Jon Krakauer chronicles Tillman’s riveting, tragic odyssey in engrossing detail highlighting his remarkable character and personality while closely examining the murky, heartbreaking circumstances of his death. Infused with the power and authenticity readers have come to expect from Krakauer’s storytelling, Where Men Win Glory exposes shattering truths about men and war. This edition has been updated to reflect new developments and includes new material obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

Thomas Bishop, like so many other young men of this generation, faces terrible decisions forced on him by foreign policy of the American government. Honor bound to defend America from communism, Thomas trains to become a Marine Corps pilot to avoid a walking tour in the jungles of Vietnam. Tran Thien Don is a simple peasant boy thrust into the American War following a violent and life changing encounter with soldiers from Saigon. The struggle to preserve and maintain Vietnamese culture through a history of invasion from China, Japan, France, and now the inexplicable devastation from America, has ignited a fire in Don to fight for his country's unification, while seeking the opportunity for revenge on his personal enemies. Oliver Lacey is a young man who is an accidental Marine inductee facing racism in the ranks in Vietnam, missing a civil rights movement at home, and experiencing his own awakening about his place in the world. On the streets of the United States and in universities around the world the war rages. Few escape its reality as the nightly news sends images from Vietnam into homes during dinner. This tragic and unrelenting suppertime carnage sparks a collective awakening and a revolution of social change is born. Glory's Child is a story of the death of American idealism. From multiple perspectives the horrifying truth of war settles in around its characters. It is a gripping tale of heartbreak, survival, death, and a thorough examination of the philosophy and politics surrounding the execution of the American War in Vietnam.
